I don't think it's an enigma if some people have mixed political opinions, some conservative, some progressive. BTW I think Derek isn't into "gun control" in the sense that he wants to abolish or heavily regulate private gun ownership, he's just very big on teaching people to use guns responsibly, which in itself is very sensible, irrespective on where you stand on the whole gun debate.

That said, the fun thing about Derek is that while his intentions are super wholesome (he wants to send anti-bullying messages to kids, teach them not to touch guns even if there is a gun tree in their garden which constantly drops guns onto their lawn, get them interested in sports, etc.) the way he brings these messages across is almost surrealistically failtastic. It's hard to teach wholesome lessons if they are uttered by a hyper creepy orange anthropomorphic cat played by an actor in a cheap fursuit and who is implied to be the offspring of Derek himself and a female anthro cat who looks like a feline blowup lovedoll.

Yeah. Maybe "enigma" is bit of an overstatement but I still find it interesting. I honestly wouldn't find it that intriguing if Derek didn't incorporate his beliefs into his Cool Cat merchandise.

Speaking of his alleged second movie, I can't help but wonder what it would be like (if it gets made). There are theories that the chubby bully kid in the first one was supposed to be some kid who bullied Derek growing up, so I'd be willing to bet the next plot would be a Cool Cat makes a movie, and then some big, bad YouTube reviewer makes fun of it.

Should be interesting to watch, to say the least.

Huh.

I don't know if this was previously mentioned here, but it seems Derek removed his "COOL CAT - Copyright Infringement vs Fair Use - Part 1" video at some point recently. I guess he's trying to salvage what little he can of this insurmountably hilarious situation.

Fortunately enough, there's a reuploaded version on YouTube. For anyone who hasn't seen it yet and would like to:

I wonder how this entire fiasco will influence his current masterpiece in the works.

Man, he is backpedalling hard. The best way to salvage his fuck-ups would be to formally apologize to IHE and the other reviewers whose content he pulled, as well as making the YMS edition of Cool Cat Saves the Kids available again if he hasn't already. I would actually gain a lot of respect for Derek if he had the maturity to say "I fucked up. I didn't know what I was talking about, and I'm really sorry for causing trouble."

But then again, Derek is a lolcow, and lolcows are not known for their capacity for self-reflection and humility.

In light of these recent events, that would certainly help his image a considerable amount. However, seeing him so emotionally invested in his entirely misinformed opinions on all of the legalities of this situation is far more amusing. I hope he continues his attempts to further justify himself and his actions.

Derek is completely bonkers and I'm loving every moment of his shenanigans.

I am curious if his gun control movie, if he is using a funding platform he might get in some trouble if he takes the money and runs

He won't. Kickstarter/IndieGoGo/etc have no say in whether or not someone actually makes the product they are crowdfunding for. I think Kickstarter even has a little blurb about accountability on the page where you pledge money to a project. You're essentially giving the person money because you believe in their pitch and you deem them as trustworthy; there is nothing stopping Derek or anyone else from putting on a good show and playing people as fools to the tune of a few thousand dollars. It's happened plenty of times before.

Also, as far as I know Derek's IndieGoGo page for the gun safety movie failed. Derek later claimed that a producer came in and bankrolled the show.

I cant see him apologizing either,he takes himself and his work too serious.

Ah , so based on the honor system, like basically the person who does a kickstarter go fundme indiegogo can make something but its based on a system of trust.

Neither can I. And if he does, it's highly likely he's just going to backpedal on that like he is currently.

Man's a schizo when it comes to telling his side of the story. And I know damn well it's going to come back to bite him at some point. And when that time comes, I'll be laughing harder at him.

I am absolutely dying to see Red Letter Media tackle Cool Cat Saves the Kids. I know for a fact they have it, because there's Cool Cat stuff in the background occasionally:

If I could have my way, Adam/YMS would be there to help them review it.

That's a shame, but I can understand where he's coming from. Both parties have completely different review styles on top of that. So I can't really see them gelling together.

That said, it'd be nice to see what their take on Cool Cat would be like.

That and see what cinema snob or nostalgia critic would say

The Nostalgia Critic's five minute skit preceding the review would be even cringier than the movie itself
I can see it now, Doug gets one of his actors to be in a worse costume as Cool Cat, Derek makes an appearance that ultimately amounts to nothing. Doug just rambling on about stuff that barely pertains to the movie in question...

Yeah, I don't think I could see it ending so well.
