Your avatar reminds me, any sperging from the Terminally Woke about the current rash of vtubers storming the intertubes? I remember someone calling Gawr Gura "dangerous" because she was "clearly" designed to pander to lolicons, but I think that particular moron moved on to complaining about other things pretty quickly.

The incident you're referring to involved Brittany Venti when Gura made her debut. Venti made a video talking about how her design pandered to lolicons completely forgetting there were several other VTubers from the Japanese branch with similar designs that had no problems with any of this.
Admittedly, some of the fanbase didn't help matters by constantly bringing attention to her long after it was over rather than just a simple "You're wrong." To this day I still think there are some people who still sperg about it.
You can read about it on Venti's thread if you're interested but there isn't much else to glean from it other than that.
As far as any other separate incidents go, most of them involve indie English VTubers constantly talking about politics on their Twitter rather than actually streaming, completely forgetting that the reason most people watch VTubers in the first place is to get away from that kind of thing.
The most major incident involved a VTuber by the name of Kyuotto, who ended up getting harassed by a bunch of other indies because her avatar was a loli succubus which led to them accusing her of pandering to pedophiles even though she clarified that she genuinely liked the character design and was an adult but that still wasn't enough for them. Several people decided to counter back by encouraging people to support her and, long story short, she now has over 10K followers on Twitter and recently did her debut stream not too long ago and pulled numbers at least 5x more than most of the indies harassing her, who are still seething about her to this day.
Apologies if this is too long but I didn't want to leave out anything major for the sake of not double posting or needlessly bringing it up again.

No, that was actually very informative. Vtubers aren't my thing (I don't speak Japanese, don't like subtitles, and most of their voices hurt my ears), but it's kind of impossible to avoid hearing about them if you have weeb friends of any stripe. And I have a good few of those. Everybody keeps recommending me this other shark girl, too. Artemis. But her voice modulation is so out of whack all she's good for is putting me to sleep, and then waking me up with a shriek five minutes later.
Anyway, I had heard that the English-speaking community for that crowd was a bit of a cesspool. I guess everything really is political for these people, including anime girls playing videogames.

You want to get into a real cesspool look up Light Novels written by numerous Chuck Wendig clones.
There's loads of crossover between the two. Mostly because the barrier for entry for light novels is lower than making a youtube channel. You don't even need to draw, just bash a keyboard and have a program auto gen words for you.
Probably the gold standard if you want to leap into the abyss is WIEDERGEBURT. Imagine if a 12 year old pretended to be Tom Clancy and tried to describe an orgy for 90 pages.

yet there are thousand of one man teams and dedicated forums making up for it. game "journalists" were always hit or miss. in my country growing up it ranged from dog shit to somewhat ok, it was mindblowing reading the first good english mag.
anyway, print hasn't been relevant (or needed) for over a decade, if not more. back then it was blogs and shit, now it's youtubers etc., but whatever the form there are always people out there filtering most crap. if you are looking for stuff to make an informed purchase decision, it has never been easier - problem is people are lazy, they can't even be arsed to put "top ten indie releases <month> <year>" into google or youtube and then go from there.

You misunderstand. I wasn't talking about politcing the content, I was talking about the loli fans policing each other. A lot of lolifags seem to think that they have to cover for one another. Fuck that. If someone shares CP with you, you have to take it to the authorities. I was bemoaning that "the authorities" in a lot of cases aren't in your country, don't speak your language, and are not interested in listening to a foreigner even if they did.
Yeah, I've been perusing the vtuber thread and that's a... vibrant ecosystem out there, isn't it? I don't think I'll be watching/listening to any of them, but the drama seems like it could be fun to check on every now and then.

Also from a topology standpoint her face is fine, it's the textures they screwed up. Major thing I see is that the eyes lack eyeliner which always stands out and makes them look like a chromosome thief.

The story in the manuals isn't any better than just playing the game blind. It adds very little to Super Mario 1 to know that mushroom kingdom citizens were turned into bricks and horse-hair plants, or that the fireballs leaping out of the lava are actually named "podoboo." But you do learn about compliance with FCC regulations!
I recall one of the Game Grump videos or just an Arin-adjacent video explained semi-competently that some of the appeal of Mario and similar games is that even if you lose the manual, it's relatively easy to learn how to play the game in the game without a tutorial mode or lessons. The screen only scrolls one way, you learn what's harmful or not, how to avoid, and eventually attack back. The ambience of dancing bushes or mushrooms making you grow makes little sense when you step back but the cause-and-effect is clear in game while the clock's ticking.

cp still isn't loli tho (for the very obvious reason that the production of the latter doesn't involve a minor). but if you encounter it you can still report it locally and it goes from there, least in most western countries they will use their own channels to track it down (because it might involve human trafficking and organized crime, which are already handled cross-border). dunno why you would try to report it to that dude's local authorities when most of the time you can't even say where he's from. heck even with shithole countries you probably want your own law enforcement involved to apply pressure even if the police over there doesn't care about it.

it reminds me a lot of early imageboard culture, with a lot of OC, obscure memes and hardly any limitations for the content (besides the obvious, but no one wants the idpol shit etc in the first place) and even with the exploded popularity it still feels like a tight enough niche that hasn't been subverted and dumbed down yet, so retards still get called out and told to fuck off. ofc you always get your speds, but that's a statistical inevitability.
sure, it's still "fake" in that there's someone playing a character, although you can argue how much of the individual's personality comes through in all the reactions during an 8 hours stream, but I don't think each of them is a such a highly talented thespian. that's why even if it's "fake", haachama's antics and god tier shitposting just warms my oldfag heart. and if that's not your thing ultimately it's still a cute girl (or dude) doing cute things generating noise in the background, not some twitch thot or "influencer" spouting his latest hot takes.
