Ah yes translators vs localizations, both claim to want accuracy, while both sides are unable to understand key elements of media they're trying to portray.

Transcending history and the world, a tale of retards and shut-ins, eternally retold.

Towards the end of ADV you had to have your hand on the pause button to get their screen filling cliff notes which kept popping up every 5 seconds if you had any hope to read them before they flashed to the next screen filling factoid.

100% literal translations for games already exist like in Blue Reflection, does not help the overall quality of the game's poor design though.

It's not "literal" though as there are examples of localization changes that ignore the context of the original script. Such as Hinako being actually tech-illiterate in the JP version (direct translation of スマホがかってに in pic related would be "the smartphone did something on its own" because she barely uses it in the first place):

Stop pretending you know anything in video games and in the japanese language any further. You're just digging your own grave deeper at this point.
Then again you defended tooth and nails months ago about the "translation" of the World Ends With You sequel IN SPITE of the multitude of comparison images (archive)

Blue Reflection is considered a literal translation by all definitions of the word.

You know why? It's because they used a machine translation as the base which is what most literal translations do to start. The script contains grammatical errors that only machine translations can fuck up and they were never edited or corrected out. Literal translations are considered the budget option for the reason because of their reliance on having it auto complete via a program.

SOMEONE THREADBAN THIS MORON gotta love how people go threadbanned for less

Really goes to show the difference between true and honest fans (no pun intended) and profiteers that are just plain opportunistic on these kinds of games.

That's a very thin blurry line because the Ultimate Edition for River City Girls Zero is around $175 bucks after tax and shipping. The $70 Deluxe edition just comes with a poster and a soundtrack. You're not even getting an art book out of the deal.

imagine waking up each day with the knowledge people prefer shoddy google translate engrish over whatever you shit out thinking it's smart and witty...

Ah yes, localization surely does improving game design and experience isn't it?
Remember the whole Fire Emblem Fates?

I will not be surprised if the previous two images translation is approved by some kind of furry.
Whole image gallery of localization changes for FE Fates in a meme website.
There is this (Varishangout) for FE Three Houses.

Don't you love some inclusive mental illness alphabet people in your game?
More from this website (Varishangout).

Don't be mistaken when people asking for "literal translation" equals with lazy machine translation. People ask for a competence job of translation. Not only that, at this age of internet, people are invested in Japanese anime/manga/games whatever, I'm sure they can handle or learning culture differences.
You're proving to be more and more consoomer than I thought, especially about boasting owning loads of games on both Playstation and Nintendo.

>Localizers don't change the original
>Localizers censoring media is a myth

Well that's just a fucking lie.

Take two fucking shots. One for the reference and the second a penalty shot if you forgot the drinking game.:fapcup:

The biggest reason this shit is disgusting is because of why it's being done - not to make the games better, not to improve anything, or make a localization keep a certain flavor, but so they can conduct the most petty, vindictive, childish expression of anger they can muster, fucking up something that by all accounts, they have no business fucking with, but because they got into a position of even negligable power, they've decided that they're going to wield it with all the subtlety of a Reddit Janny, ramming some reference to current year politics, pop-culture, and stupid shit only the localizer cares about, then claiming their critics are ists/phobes.

And for what? So they can jerk off about how they ruined something for some demographic who more-than-likely would never be aware of their existence if they didn't do this shit.

Fuck these "localizers." They're a fucking blight on the industry, and I'm glad so many of them have been forced to eat shit.

As much as I don't like banning people, especially for the crime of disagreeing with the majority, I'm leaning towards this as well. It's one thing to wrong or stupid, but this is crossing some kind of stupidity line into complete delusion.

On the other hand, he's occasionally so insane that it can be almost funny, so I don't know.

This is great to see. The language barrier kept them safe a while, but games like River City Girls and Gun-Volt are showing these people that they aren't above it.

There was a 40 minute video I watched last night. I assumed I got the link here, but I guess not. It makes the argument that, for as bad as 4Kids was when it came to bad anime translations, it was at least from a place of innocence. They were marketing cartoons to western kids, not trying to re-write them for the translators ego or trying to piss off people they don't like.

Edit: Here's the video.

I never understood why localizers ad in their politics into works where they don't belong.
It happens most of the time when it's an untranslatable joke or pun. If it's something based on two words rhyming for example and you bring it over to English there's many instances where there's no equivalent Yes you can give it a literal translation but if it destroys the phonic purpose of the joke that doesn't work either. Another instance is that some japanese comedy is based on verbal rhythm which will be different when brought into english since syllables are different between many words.

This also happens the other way around when bringing something English to Japanese. They need to invent stuff to make it work verbally.

Comedy is heavily based on structure and having something be political is usually because it's the type of comedy they listen to, like something akin to Stewart Era daily show. Most translators are not comedy writers and therefore don't understand how jokes are supposed to work in a script.

More or less the gist I get from his posts since awhile, he likely perceives anti-censorship and requests of actual translations as legitimate threats to his consumer/collector autism (or whatever he pretends to be and to play anyway).

Is it though?
Where does "このグラフィティ何? 『104』かな?ん〜…何か気に入らない!上書きしちゃお" mention capitalism? It's just the standard localisation autist putting their own fresh spin on a benign phrase.

I think what's never brought up is that NEO TWEWY is entirely based on twitter bullshit from the start. The social media handles for NPCs are all clearly visible and are a major theming element. And yes Twitter is heavily american centric, so every snide remark does sound like a twitter user would say because it's thematically appropriate. It's perfectly inline with the spirit of the game and NPCs sound like real life NPCs.

You want stuff of a similar vein, play the asian release of Life is Strange. They had to change shit to work around the slang that's used. And this is a french interpolation of what american teens act like. So you get the absolute best of the worst to start from.
