I loved a lot of what they did with the remake. It plays well online, it looks great, but it feels incomplete. They added all the stages from the second CTR game, but they didn't implement them in the story, or even copy CTR2's story mode. Each CTR2 stage was even given time trials and CTR token challenges, but there are no rewards or even indicators if you complete them. The challenges feel just tacked on, but the stages are still great.
I’m fine with the CTR being difficult, it’s part of what made the PS1 game awesome, especially in that badass final boss at the end, but I and many others are noticing something that feel more like bugs or balance issues than usual late 90s PS1-era tough racing like AI mysteriously getting super close to you when you’re in first place at the end of the third lap or multiple AI mysteriously getting missiles all at the same time which more gives the impression that Activision rushed the game rather than Beenox intentionally making the game hard. Wouldn’t be out the realm of possibility since this game probably had less dev time than N Sane Trilogy
The AI for the original game was pretty weird in that the characters ran on fixed paths and used items at certain points of the lap regardless if they hit an item box or not. The remake improved the AI tremendously by making them better avoid items and actually tougher on the harder difficulties.
The amount of grinding it needs to unlock skins and characters sure does feel like they will implement monetisation later.
The unlock feature feels like at one point microtransactions were considered, and I wouldn't be surprised if more skins and customization options are patched in with microtransactions. In the meantime, the way to unlock items is to earn coins from races, and is it me or does the game award you much more coins for coming in later positions than in first? I've usually been getting between 60-80 coins when I place first but 200+ when I don't even break the top three. But only sometimes. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Considering things take 2000+ coins to unlock, it feels grindy for the sake of lubing you up for microtransactions.

Also, they cut out the bandicoot trophy girls (except for Slide Colluseum projections). How am I supposed to turn my head and pretend I was never strangely attracted to them when I was 20 years younger? Plus, I really don't care at all for the CTR2 characters. Why didn't they include more interesting, recognizable Crash characters like N. Brio, Nina Cortex, Koala Kong or Komodo Mo? I may be nitpicking, but it's stuff that bothered me.
This remake is very well done in many regards, but it feels like a lot of stuff is unfinished, not thought out entirely, or just tacked on.
And yes, the loading times suck on the Switch. About 20~30 seconds before each race.
