Have you fixed a leaky pipe, replaced a faucet cartridge or replaced a shower head? You're a plumber.
Have you rewired a light switch, power outlet or ran some cable to the garden shed to get a light in there? You're an electrician.
Have you repaired a deck, put up a fence or built a flower box? You're a carpenter.

All of these things are skills any ordinary person can pick up. But what this means to me is Connor is a lazy piece of shit who refuses to do anything including cook for himself,

And instead of understanding these are life skills he can use, he treats them like they're taking away from his "career" of being a writer.

I think he’s said his only responsibility around the house is making sure toiletries are stocked. He doesn’t cook, clean, or do laundry. His parents do everything for him. He has no idea how hard the world’s gonna hit him when they can’t take care of him anymore.

It's 4 to 5 years to get through a combination of an apprenticeship with a master plumber, classroom instruction, and so many hours of on the job training. Want to be a licensed electrician or carpenter? It takes the same amount of time as with a plumber. Connor doesn't have the discipline to do that much less make it as a professional writer. So what do you do with no job experience?

I will tell you what one guy I know of did. He had autism, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and bipolar disorder. So how do you get a job with this kind of barrier? Him and his family went into business together (Red, White and Brew Coffeehouse). Can't get a job? Go into business and make your own job.

I didn't say anything about being licensed. I'm just talking being able to do simple crap around the house so you don't need to call a plumber or electrician when something happens and that's what I'm betting Connor's family was expecting.

If you're a homeowner it's sometimes cheaper and better to do it yourself than calling in a professional so long as you have a good grasp of what's going on.

As for getting your own job... he's a writer. That's all he aspires to be and that's the only job he's accepting.
