Haunting of Hill House was one of the few horror novels to actually scare me to "sleep with lights on" levels as a kid. What a gem.

I actually went back and re-read We Have Always Lived At The Castle yesterday after mentioning it here. So good.

I just got a very old copy of that (probably from one of the first runs, but I'm actually not home to check rn) from a Little Free Library box a few days ago. Can't believe someone didn't want that.

Aren't they making a netflix show out of that one too? I was lukewarm on the Hill House one. It was a very good show and very scary and entertaining but also it was so loosely acquainted with Jackson's story I felt it was ridiculous to say it was based on it.

You really think I'm like Emmeline Grangerford! My heart, I'm overjoyed!!! She's not Virginia Poe, but she's certainly one of my Opheliac muses.

Eta: as of time of writing, I have still decided against taking my sickstagram to the public eye. Life as an influencer, I've learned, is more than I can digest at present, and indeed into the foreseeable future.

You'd have better success as a camgirl, especially if you let kiwifarms have a premium membership to your channel.

That one was my favorite.

May I mention a fun ass B film that was likely very influenced by Shirley's amazing literacy?: Spider Baby.

That's how influencers influence.

I think a movie, not a Netflix show. Sebastian Stan's gonna play the uncle.

You’re going to have to be more specific, lest you accidentally inspire the moo. Which parts are your favorite?
The parts where she talks like a pseudointellectual while dying of a disease that's so severe, it doesn't show up on any tests. Also the parts where she then talks about wanting to be sick while still claiming to be sooper sick.

Oh, and the sick room. That's my fav.

FTFY, but yeah, the sickroom was something else... and the “I’ve been told by doctors I don’t have this chronic autoimmune condition, but I totally have it and my achy joints and slightly elevated but still normal temperature suggest that I’m dying tragically and poetically (and not that I’m a lazy bitch whose joints ache because I’m out of shape and don’t use them).”

EDIT: man... this plain dumpy bitch’s name is Carrie and she could be writing long fanfics about herself flipping cars and blowing up buildings with telekinesis and she chooses to lie around and abuse her thesaurus like Goddess Mike abused Julay... damn what a wasted opportunity

No cars in the Victorian era. 😂 Would have to be flipping Carriages. Come to think of it.. Carrie and Carriages seems like a decent idea.

Do you think Christine's (ahem, sorry, Carol's) therapist was so encouraging of her being here because she knew KF would do a better job than she ever could? This is assuming, of course, that the therapist visit ever happened and, let's be honest, Christine's truthfulness track record is worse than her prose.

Anyway, I foresee her going quiet for a while now that she's been doxxed but I'd gamble that her narcissism will keep her lurking. But as she clearly thrives on the attention, perhaps it's time to invoke the Lich Queen rule and stop mentioning her lest it makes her stronger? (Let's be honest, as enjoyable as the thread derails have been, at the heart of it, this is an extremely bland cow who most likely won't provide much m.ilk anytime soon).

@Christine Milneaux

Imitating an era were women and sexuality were repressed (yet the the Victorians were notoriously kinky) reflects your struggles with embracing your sexuality and your failed ambitions. You wanted to go to a proper college when you left high school but you were not good enough and/or your husband 'has his career here' or has otherwise convinced you not to further your education. You use your fantasy as a way to cope with a toxic codependent marriage. Maybe you are genuinely sick- but that is a result of your husband slowly poisoning you with arsenic. He is fuelling and enabling your daddy issues while fulfilling his loli/little fetish.

Going from home to marriage with a man who is more physically and emotionally mature than you has robbed you of any life experiences and achievements you could have had and you secretly resent him for that. You could have gone to a proper state college instead of a shitty community college which has nurtured you superiority (inferiority) complex. You still secretly lust after fame and to achieve something great on your own, but you are stuck in a loveless marriage (how very Victorian!) . Ultimately you are afraid of leaving because your mum and everyone who tried to talk you out of it would say 'I told you so'. Plus it would be 10 years down the drain and you have never worked a day in your life. It would also ruin the fantasy of being married to your first love.

It was mentioned somewhere that he was a virgin when you met. Even though he is a 2/10 by Middle Earth standards, I somehow call bullshit.

Being the talk of the town on KF is not an achievement. However you have potential to snap out of your delusions and your abusive relationship.

Am I wrong? FIGHT ME!!

EDIT: @Christine Milneaux I know you're online sweetheart. Your silence doth speakth volumes
If she were being poisoned with arsenic by the pedo hubby, this would become my new favorite thread.

I seriously find the notion of her sexless creepy marriage to be really sad. I don't feel sad for her--she's a personality disordered woman who chooses not to fix things that are fixable. She chooses (by posting here, making her real identity known, etc) to make her problems worse.

I am loving the historical illness/fashion/literature discussions though.

Also, is the hubby in therapy? He needs to be.

I'm late and replying to your comment, not this one, but I'm lazy at the moment, about the Hill House Netflix series. I was really impressed with the structure of the series and the story arcs. It had nearly nothing to do with Jackson's work, but it stood alone quite nicely. I heard they were thinking of making a second season. Now, that is a hard no for me.

I dunno why she isn’t posting here anymore...didn’t she want to be Internet Famous (tm)? She has over 300 loyal fans following this thread, she’s basically a public figure now.

One reminder: she mentioned in the DM that she wanted to be a “sick influencer”, but if it didn’t work out, she could just delete her online handle and start over, since no one would know her real identity.

How the hell did she think she was going to post videos and photos of herself describing her life and daily activities and get thousands of youtube followers from this and not have anyone find out her real name? Has she been on the internet before?

In addition to being terrible at every hobby she’s ever tried, her intelligence is also mediocre at best. I’m sure she’d label her bottomless stupidity as “a bit sheltered and naive,” but the fact is she’s just not smart. Carolina, you got doxed in a week by a couple of bored people. Time to admit that using big words and trying to sound like Jane Austen can’t raise your room-temperature IQ.
