Reminder that the Reze movie made $200 million just six months ago.
Not only does she explicitly not appear in Part 2 despite all other hybrids returning, we now know she doesn't appear in the ending either, and Denji is designated Power property.

I wonder if Mappa will bother animating Part 2 at all.

Oh boy. I have very mixed opinions but don't actually hate it. I have a bit of a soft spot for bitter sweet endings so the moment where Denji and Asa briefly met before separating ways really resonated with me, yet also stung.
My feelings are all over the place, might do a bigger post later this week but some assorted thoughts:
- Denji's life doesn't actually seem that terrible and he's healthy enough too. Did Asa "reinvent" Chainsaw Man when she called Denji that? I'm just glad he doesn't spend the rest of his days in the shack. He's 100% going to be friends with benefits with Power in this reality. He'll score, trust the plan.
- I guess in this universe Katana Man will develop a grudge on Power lol
- Where the FUCK is Kishibe??? Would've liked to see more previous characters but I understand that this would be getting too fanservice-y but c'mon throw Aki and Himeno there
- I'm re-evaluating a lot of part 2 but one section my opinion has already dropped on considerably is the Denji/Yoru fight. Two characters whaling at each other when neither can die for several chapters right before the finish line. There really needed to be a bit more of a breather between post-battle and Denji getting eaten by overpowered devils. Asa has also been getting sidelined badly for a while by this point.
- Now that the manga is over and I cannot cope any further, I can confidently say the new characters from part 2 sucked other than Asa and for the most part Yoru. Death, Famine Devil and Miri especially were giant nothingburgers. Kept coping that Death would get puked out or that Miri would recover but nope.

Anime onlines are going to be PISSED in 2040

I'm schizo-ing out but I'm thinking the Reze Arc movie coming out probably gave Fujimoto a massive dose of Part 1 nostalgia to Fujimoto plus also he's starting to get bored of Part 2 so this might be why it ended the way it did.

THAT part of Twitter is shitting itself because “Denji is still horny and that’s bad”, how and crap like that.

So I say 10/10 ending, change nothing.

The part where Fumiko was hanging out under the bed and giving Denji wank material was pretty funny

If you want a story to have anything sacred, you don't tarnish it by bringing them back. Even fucking Naruto got this right with Jiraiya. The people who honestly want Reze back are wrong and I'm tired of pretending that they're not.

Less is always more.

Evil fucking chapter fujimoto. In the cycle this is the ultimate fuck you fujimoto. But I gotta respect it just for being that diabolical
also really evil for making the chainsaw man or chainsaw devil not the real fucking chainsaw devil. I imagine denji will forever cough up blood but never die like his mom since hes still has the pochita heart probably. Insane to see nayuta though.

Rezefags lost hard, even Fujimoto knew Power was best girl.

The thing about this ending is that it's unearned. Denji didn't grow as a character, while Pochita is barely one, even moreso that the first part, so it's a lot of suffering that didn't even technically happen, a rollercoaster that you got memory wiped afterwards and just left with nausea and adrenaline. And you could have technically ended the fight with Makima that way and it would have actually been better and more appropriate.

It's only good in a meta "subvert my expectations" way. The part that it's unambiguously a happy ending makes it way more digestible.

I think it's implied that Makima's existence was entirely tied to Pochita's so in this altered timeline she never existed and Nayuta is the current Control Devil.
Well that's gay as shit. That means at some point, she killed herself from boredom because she didn't have an idol. This chapter is still pointless, but I'd be slightly less upset if she actually was back and was just like, "Wait, you're alive. If you shut up about what I did, I'll give you a job." She has no reason to screw him over this time.

The last chapter is too short and the way we got here was too disjointed. As is, if Part 2 only consisted of chapters 231 and 232 literally nothing changes. In order for this ending to work you'd need yo show off more of the new world (something like all 4 horsemen working for the government, Aki and Himeno raising Nayuta, Kobeni writing a popular tell all about her abusive home life, etc) It doesn't all have to be happy, but we absolutely needed more "where are they now" moments than we got.

All I wanted was one scene with all four Horsemen, preferably arguing about something inconsequential. Was that too much to ask for?
