I'm always interested in seeing these movements towards independence, looking forward to the salt.

If it did become independent, would it be an area bigger or smaller than Andorra?

A hell of a lot bigger.

If they do succeed, it will be amusing to watch their lefty government go full commie and then laugh at them during the inevitable collapse.

Apparently reports of Catalonian and Kurdish pro-independence figures have been seen and in talks with each other, so, if true, expect this to become a top international issue in a year or two.

With news of Spanish police cracking down on anywhere even hinting at taking part in this referendum, is anyone else starting to get some Civil War vibes?

So heres some streams of the happenings right now. Spanish national police are blocking polling places and running them out of others while people trying to vote are climbing fences to try to get around them.

After reading up on the issue I'm not for either side.

  • Spain is stupid for using over regulation, trying to force unproven and ineffective "green" jobs on people and Socialist welfare state policies that lead to their economy tanking in the first place which lead to this whole shit show kicking off. Then they either did nothing or dumped money on it which made the whole thing worse.
  • Catelonia is retarded because they think the solution is to break off from Spain and delve deeper into what caused the issues in the first place while wanting to go full France and Germany and think that letting Islams in and take over will somehow rejuvenate their economy, even after having a terror attack just a few weeks ago.

Is important to note that they might have done a referendum and none of this shitshow would have happened. Buuuuut, they needed (I think) absolute majority on Congress. Which even with a right-wing party governing in minority they wouldn't achieve. Maybe if they were patient enough to wait for a left-wing government they might have got away with it. But being denied and then forcing the referendum anyways is just gonna lead to drama.
