So what’s the overall consensus for Captain Marvel? It has a RT score of 87% yet some of the reviews are mixed.
As someone earlier mentioned, the RT tomatoes score is kind of a bad indicator since it's a binary "Yes" or "No." Metacritic for example is sitting at around 66%, which seems more atuned to what I've been seeing from YT reviewers.

Overall from the videos I've seen, most of the critics have been more or less:

"Listen, there is no win for me here, BUUUUT Captain Marvel is... okay. It's not good, but it's not bad either."

Most are saying dude playing the Skrull baddie did a decent job, some saying Samuel L. Jackson did okay too. Most are loving the cat.

As for Brie, some are saying she has some character in the first act, but overall she doesn't come off that well as an actual character, has no character arc.

Lot of pandering, lot of 90s references.

Lot of them are talking about a "stupid retcon" which they won't go into detail about (read: this week. Come back next week for the full spoilers video), but it's generally thought that it's about how Nick Cage lost his eye.

Overall this is feeling like one of those movies a lot of critics will treat with kid gloves for about a week or two and then once the excitement dies down, they'll low key bitch about.

This is 100% bribery. They're paying theaters off to do this.
:optimistic: Not extortion?

Wow I wonder why they'd hesitate to criticize it.

That avatar looks like it's "expanding the bandwidth of womanhood". By which I mean, I give him :christine: a year at most.

Also, to whoever said Captain Marvel is getting 100% fresh: no movie is getting 100% fresh on Cole Smithey's watch.

Truth be told, I didn't think Infinity War was all that, so I don't think it's going to be very amazing. Dark Knight's still the peak in my book.

Meh, it's all been downhill since Meteor Man.

[...] the movie desperately wants to be a feminist rallying cry, but does little to earn that role outside of having a female main character and playing No Doubt’s “I’m Just A Girl” during one of the fight scenes.

Yup, no doubts now, Captain Marvel is on the flop. Doomed by hubris and mediocrity, Captain Marvel retreats to the Hall of Social Justice to ponder how to strategically deliver invective against those who are to blame for her failings. Those white man-baby incel racist sexist MAGA-hat-wearing trolls, aka reasonable and sane people of both sexes with decent taste, are in for a scolding media blitz.

They better pick another centerpiece of the MCU. If their shills can't even fucking defend it, you know Disney is fucked.

I'm going to see Endgame for two reasons: 1) to see how closely it follows the comic (and how it adapts where it can't) and 2) to officially reach a stopping point with the capeshit genre and allow myself to cash out on my psychological investment.

I don't think anyone is in for a mass lecturing by mainstream media when mainstream media reviewers themselves are claiming that the movie is at best mediocre.

When even otherwise paid shills won't go to bat for your super-dee-duper feminist movie, you know you have fucked up.

Seen a lot of hate of this from incels.

Isn't carol danvers that chick rogue got too touchy with?

Ironic then that a lot if manospheres have latched onto a grudge against her and won't let go

If having a vagina was all it took to BTFO Thanos how come Black Widow or Scarlet Witch didn't do it?

?

So here's the thing: Dumbasses think that people who dislike Carol Danvers are sexist (because, of course these dumbasses are accusing us of that).

These morons fail to realize that if Black Widow and/or Scarlet Witch played a large role in defeating Thanos in Endgame, 99.99999% of the fans would be a-okay with that. For me, personally, ANY surviving character at the end of Infinity War (or any character that gets brought back to life in Endgame) deserves to kill Thanos for what he put them through. The heroes we've grown to love since the start of the MCU were put through the ringer in Infinity War.

Fact: I will have the biggest smile plastered on my face if Nebula plays one of the largest roles in killing Thanos. Not only does that borrow from the comic books a little bit, but it would be a rewarding payoff for her character arc. Nobody has it worse than Nebula when it comes to Thanos, really. She 100% deserves to kill him. For me, personally, my favorite characters to kill Thanos would be either Nebula or Iron Man, but I wouldn't complain if it were literally anyone who isn't Carol fucking Danvers.

Thanos didn't put Carol Danvers through SHIT. If Marvel/Kevin Feige/Disney/whatthefuckever are trying to tell me that I should be excited about Captain Marvel killing Thanos, then they can take that notion and shove it up their asses. That would be the worst payoff for any film series ever. That ending is the LEAST rewarding thing I could think of from a storytelling perspective. And I would be completely saying the same thing if this movie had been about Mar-Vell (the REAL Mar-Vell)/any male superhero that was just introduced.

EDIT: I've finally voted in the thread's poll. I'm skipping this movie in cinemas, especially after every review said you can completely skip it before Endgame. Why? Because I love the MCU, and I don't want it to go down in flames with this dumb, agenda-ridden character. Hey, Disney: Call me when you finally make a Black Widow movie or when you put Carol in a coma because of my girl Rogue.

Exactly. There's nothing more fucking forced than that. You would see a massive revolt. I think it'd be worse than TLJ, because Endge has a massive amount of hype. If they do the Captain Marvel thing, they're done. I will lose all interest in the MCU.

That's horrible fucking storytelling. The best ending for endgame is Nebula stealing the gauntlet, going apeshit, Cap sacrificing himself to get the gauntlet and put things right. And Thanos becomes a farmer.

The Ghostbusters reboot also was a critical failure, but we're stilling getting beat over the head with how terrible people are for disliking it. The generally negative fan reaction to it is still being brought up as an example of an egregious wrong perpetrated against the righteous woke.

As with other films involving women or people of color in strong roles, there’s been a clear, concerted effort on behalf of some really creepy Internet trolls to savage “Captain Marvel” before its release, just as there was with “Wonder Woman,” the all-female remake of “Ghostbusters,” “Black Panther,” “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” and more.

What is wrong with these people?
[...]
Sure, some people are just nasty and like to go after whoever is within easy reach – and social media is the perfect weapon. Others, though, seem genuinely offended at notions like inclusion. How dare they make a “Ghostbusters” movie that does not reflect my childhood memories of the original?
[...]
I’m no therapist, but I would suggest that if your happiness hinges on what you remember of Bill Murray in “Ghostbusters” when you saw it with your mom, maybe you should have gone outside to play more.

That article will not be a lone voice, all the usual outlets will inevitably pile on. Already detractors are labeled as creepy racist sexists. That tone might well dominate once the movie flops proper.

So I type "Captain Marvel" into twitter, the first thing I see...
