You seem to have pushed this position that I'm cheering that Disney is afraid. It is. That's a simple fact. Starwars is fucked into the ground, and that's not because of dorks.

Didn't they just hand "franchise killer" Rian Johnson an entire trilogy of films to keep sabotaging them? That seems like a weird move to do if they know they just bought a load of defective product and keep upsetting the real fans. Is the plan just to shoot down mean videos about him? Instead of not just allowing him to piss away their money and dwindle the fanbase even further?

It's strange between that and continually handing Brie Larson, who everyone totally hates, over millions of dollars that they would continue to piss away money on material they know will tank in order to... uh... prove a point to asspies over the internet.

A corporation that's too big to fail and knows it doing stupid things because they know they're untouchable?

I never heard of such codswallop.

His trilogy is still up in the air, they hired Game of Thrones killers D&D to write and direct the next trilogy, which is probably far, far worse. At least Johnson could write good movies before TLJ, so there's hope of him with original content, which is probably why they'd do it in the first place, despite TLJ. TLJ is still fucking terrible. With D&D, Game of Thrones imploded once these two tried doing their 'original' ideas. Reminder: One of these two is responsible for X-Men Origins: Wolverine. But Disney really couldn't know what would happen or how incompetent they really were.

Well, it is called a 'contract'. Things are signed, sealed and delivered. You can't really walk things back now, and it'd cost them way more money to buy her out of it. So obviously its damage control.

What the fuck? No. The reality would be literally the exact opposite of what you said. Buying out a contract, even if Larson had her guys negotiate absolute best terms would be a drop in the bucket compared to what you're saying they know they're about to lose keeping her on board.

Channing Tatum was signed to play Gambit at the height of his popularity, and then they just killed the project altogether. To say they'd have no way out is insane, to say they're so backed into a corner with no way out so they're willingly about to eat millions/billions in losses because of angry fans and have been reduced to playing what amounts to internet espionage with YouTube vloggers is something so stupid I can't believe anyone legitimately believes.

Pretty much more or less my entire point, they're not going to fail and they are untouchable, so why would they give a flying fuck that YouTube doesn't like Larson?

TBH I agree with Crackas, we really won't know if CM/Larson has any real staying power until her movie's sequel. That said her movie made over a billion dollars and I find it hard to believe it was purely because she was coasting off Endgame.

And even if you thought CM was feminist SJW garbage there's no guarantee her other movies will be. If SocJus falls out of favor in the 2020s it's entirely possible they'll drop the "She Ra girl power WOO!" tone from her movies. Remember Thor went from a somewhat serious Fantasy/Sci Fi film in his first movie to a straight up buddycop comedy in Ragnarok.

Also Secret Asshole love your posts man but using Captain Marvel's failed comic books as a sign she's unpopular is kinda well iffy. Blade's movies were hugely popular and he still couldn't hold down a solo title to save his life.

^Captain Marvel's failed comic books are unique, though.

The character has had almost TEN reboots since 2013. Marvel keeps trying to make her a thing.

But she was though. Infinity War Post Credits scene, lack of actual hype for the movie, bad word of mouth (only people like Crackas liked it because shit taste), hyped up as important for Endgame.
Half of it's box office was due to the apparently need to see it before Endgame. Nothing more, nothing less. Anyone else suggesting otherwise is probably just a radical centrist (basically an SJW in denial) or an MCU fanboy.

Inb4 the inevitable "B-But muh /tv/ said it would bomb!" Because in any other circumstance it would have. Black Panther would have made less too but that was a legitimately better movie (that still sucked but it was still better).

Your massive hateboner for a movie so forgettable that even people like MauLer can't will up the energy to make another 5-hour rant about "muh feminist agenda in my capeshit" is growing really concerning, dude. Why does its financial success have to be some kind of long con by Disney to trick people into thinking it had Endgame relevance? When did "oh another shitty dumb movie made bank at the box office" require a conspiracy instead of just assuming normies are dumb? This isn't new, before capeshit took over Hollywood we had this exact same phenomenon with all the Michael Bay Transformers movies.

"So forgettable yet here you are"
Mauler doesn't need to, just the people who relentlessly act like it's Box Office was because people just had to watch a boring forgettable movie with a boring lead character, rather than the fact they felt they had to watch it after they came off a massive cliffhanger that was Avengers Infinity War. And it is a fact they were promoting it as relevant to Endgame, it was hyped as a "prequel" to Endgame lol. And you do realise the Michael Bay Transformers movies had more going for them? They had way flashier special effects and tried to actually be fun movies (they failed but they weren't trying to pander to a boring crowd of moral authoritarians), and they were based on a toy line people loved.

It will be funny when the next Captain Marvel makes less money and then you guys will just twiddle your thumbs and pretend you never acted like Captain Marvel was apparently beloved by the normies.

If people thought Captain Marvel was absolute dogshit her movie would have tanked after the initial opening week blow out like Solo did.

That didn't happen.

I didn't realize that Infinity War was a divisive movie that soured audiences to the MCU. Who would have thought.
From my experience people only saw it because they felt they "had" to, Solo didn't have that. Again, why are you trying to deny this on a site that is frequently under the threat of losers like this who want to shut it down?

And that's more amusing than boring Brie Larson whining about men putting her down. I guess campy bad is worse than boring depressing bad.

Solo had a strong opening weekend and plummeted like a rock within the first month because people thought it was dogshit and the bad word of mouth killed it. TLJ's reception was just icing on the shit cake.

People aren't going to blindly keep watching a movie if they think it's shit. No matter how much you insist they will.

You and the culture warriors on youtube are desperate to spin this movie as a failure because Larson put her foot in her mouth despite it making over a billion dollars. It comes off as denying reality.

When did I say it was a failure? I just said that the main reason people saw a movie that most said was "Meh" was because it was said to have vitally important plot details for Endgame. I've accepted that it made over a billion dollars...whether or not Disney actually inflated the box office somehow is up in the air (Fox Merger was more important) but it doesn't matter. Like, Infinity War ended with half the cast getting turned to ash and Nick Fury trying to contact Captain Marvel, no shit people felt the need to watch it. Put the dots together.
Of course you are a fanboy of these movies and feel the need to get defensive. Like, I know the general tastes of audiences have declined because these movies are choking out other IPs but quit being delusional. You know otherwise it would have made $600million tops if not for Endgame hype. Black Panther was only successful because people have a shit taste and overhyped it, and the Goodwill the MCU had. Hell that's the main thing here, the MCU has hooked gullible idiots with shit taste into watching almost all of them because they are so tightly connected and essentially a part of an overarching plot, missing one or two of them means you will be lost during the next Avengers movie, so you have to see all of them to even have a clue what's happening...even when that's not the case.
Like, seriously man, have sex.

A strong opening weekend compared to what?

Solo opened at barely above half of what Rogue One did ($155 million vs. $84 million) despite showing in 5% more theaters (4381 vs 4157). Although Solo had a bigger week one to week two drop (possibly because Rogue One's second running week included Christmas day), the holds for both movies were fairly comparable throughout their run time, despite the fact that Rogue One's reception from fans was neutral-to-favorable. Of course, "the same holds" is much worse for Solo because it had a much lower opening week gross.

(EDIT to add: Solo's opening weekend was apparently lower, adjusted for inflation, than any of the sequel or prequel films.)

If anything, comparing the two movies seems to indicate that what really killed Solo was pre-release negative publicity, general audience disinterest, delayed blowback from The Last Jedi, or all of the above. It's almost the opposite of what you're suggesting.
