Disagree there considering the people who built Canada were poor tenant farmers that were largely forced out of Europe.
All of my ancestors from Europe were poor immigrants.
We already have enough poor people, we don't need 9 million more.
For food banks specifically, where the comment was from, Im somewhat okay with east europeans- because many came over in their 40s at the end of the cold war, with no pension, worked hard, have a limited pension and need a little extra help;
So don't take it that a) I dont like the poor and b) I dont want immigrants going to the food bank,
But for Indians, theyre able bodied, they should not be poor if they are coming here, and we already have enough poor people who wind up getting poorer (cost of living inflation) due to more and more Indians arriving.
For them specifically, it does annoy me seeing them at the food bank when if you are that poor, legit- leave and return to your home country.
there was a jeet in the comments literally saying that "well, there is no rule against us taking the food from there"
My response to this is pretty much: "Okay, then well make a rule that you can't take food from there" with quene reeeeeeeeing
Another lie is the unemployment number. They actually don't count people who have been unemployed for more than a year, people who never had a job or people who recently graduated and can't find work. We probably at least 15 percent unemployed if not more. Yet constant gas lighting by government on how we aren't in economic turmoil and we have a labor shortage.
The unemployment number is outdated by a century at this point (Its something from the 30's). It used to be relevant because the assumption was that if you had a job, you could support yourself and have a decent enough life,
but it does not take into account cost of living, precarious employment (see the precariat), or underemployment.
When I look at the unemployment number, does it give me any idea of how many people are "employed" by uber, how many people are working at Tim Hortons within that percentage? Can either of those people afford to support themselves on that income alone? No. So, I don't really care.
Even GDP or the stock market are basically just rich people feelings. GDP goes up? Great, don't care- sort of good for me, but not really- its just skewed because the top 15% (who are basically our entire consumer economy at this point, and thats all we are) are spending more money. I don't really care.
