I mean the only immigrants in modern Canada are either people who have no other choice (i.e Canada cannot be worse than the shitholes they came from) or people who came to Canada before Trudeau. People with normally high-paying jobs are fleeing because in many jobs people are literally incentivized to do the bare minimum by their bosses. So basically Canada is not a serious country but most of us probably know this already. I saw a post about how almost half of the jobs in Canada are low-paying ones like retail or fast food restaurants, so our economy is a literal paper tiger.

It's also never helped that anyone in a high-paying job up here could also look a few hours south and get the same job for significantly more - downsides of sharing a border with the country home of the juggernaut that is the US Dollar.

We were going to face brain-drain regardless on that fact alone, but if the process speeding up takes some of the hordes with them then it probably balances out. I know I'm stuck here regardless anyway.

So what has Carney actually done so far? I'm sure things are a net improvement over Trudeau but that was a very, very low bar and I wonder if we can quantify that better.

I have been contemplating how many lefties love to accuse the right of being fascists without actually understanding the meaning of the word of the history of the ideology. So I googled up "characteristics of fascism" on a lark and realized that Canada is essentially a semi-fascist state due to how the Liberal Party ran it over the last decade. Let's go over it line by line.

Authoritarianism and Dictatorship -Canada has the trappings of democracy as we do have elections, but there are fewer checks on the Prime Minister's power vis-a-vis the President of the United States. The PM can pack the Senate with his preferred candidates as he sees fit and feckless opposition leaders like Jagmeet Singh can give him near-unlimited powers. Regional representation is highly screws of as Atlantic Canada (with 2.5 million people) has 32 seats while an Alberta (5 million) has only 37. Elections are decided in Ontario and don't matter west of the border with Manitoba.

Extreme Nationalism - We saw this with mass chimping-out after Trump started the 51st state rhetoric. I would argue that this newfound "patriotism" was rooted in hatred of the orange man and the nation's chronic insecurity rather than any genuine love of Canada.

Militarism -HAHAHA! No. Canada sees its "strength" in being a "humanitarian" power with our leaders preferring business suits to military regalia. Carney promised more funding to the armed forces to meet our NATO commitments, but Mr. Economic Wizard refuses to table a budget so we'll see. I suspect that there will be some creative accounting.

Suppression of Dissent -Currently a work in progress. People won't be disappearing anytime soon, but we will see a gradual eroding of privacy laws if Bill C-2 is any indications. I also expect that this government will revive Trudeau-era bills to regulate speech on the Internet under the guise of protecting vulnerable groups from "hate speech".

Cult of Personality -Not so much a cult of personality surrounding one person, but the party as a whole. The Liberals have perpetuated the myth that they are the natural governing body and the Canadian left bought into it. One important factor in the CPC's loss is that many Canadians never changed their political affiliation. They were simply angry with Justin Trudeau and would flock back the moment he resigned and his replacement has no evident connection. Except Canadians are such ignorant bumpkins that they doesn't realize that Carney was the man behind the curtains as Justin's economic advisor.

Social Hierarchy - Ottawa seeks to establish a technocratic state overseen by the (increasingly inept and delusional) Laurentian consensus. 'Nuff said.

Control of the Economy - We have seen this throughout the last decade through overregulation and government subsidies as seen with the billions to corporations for the failed EV venture. Carney looks to be doing the same by consolidating everything into "one Canadian economy". Given his track record, it will be a disaster.

Rejection of Liberalism and Pluralism -The Canadian left abhors independent though and Canadian society is highly conformist in nature and is willing to step on the individual for "the greater good" (THE GREATER GOOD!) as seen with the treatment of the unvaccinated during COVID.

Use of Propaganda and Manipulation - A given since the federal government funds the CBC and heavily subsidized. Canadians were easily whipped into a frenzy believing that the United States was going to annex us without pausing to ask if that was even plausible.

Scapegoating and Othering - Whenever something goes wrong, the LPC is quick to deflect blame onto the Harper government (despite it being over a decade), conservative premiers, or "oh, it's a global problem". They similarly use Trump as a boogeyman and love to brag about Canadians are nicer and more polite than those "uncouth" American. Anyone critical of the current status quo will be dismissed as "Maple MAGA" or other such nonsense.

Economic Autarky - Hard no on this. Canada is still solidly devoted to the post-WWII internationalist cause, even as it unravels.
 
The totalitarianism is due to a Trudeau, but not Justin.

This is all down to the joke of a constitution that Pierre Trudeau brought in in 1982.

The Supreme Court being above the law and able to create law out of thin air is a big Marxist tactic.

Most people don't even realize this, but gay marriage was not legalized in Canada by an act of Parliament or any democratic effort. Paul Martin, the PM at the time, did it the most cowardly way possible. He posed a question to the Supreme Court of Canada, without any case, suit or proposed legislation, asking if banning gay marriage was legal. Knowing the SC would say it could not be banned, because doing so would violate the Charter of Rights, he was able to simultaneously take the ass-pats for being thePM who brought in gay marriage, but also being able to play to his staunchly Catholic home riding that it was not up to him, he had to abide by the Supreme Court.

What Justin Trudeau did was basically try to out-NDP the NDP. However, in doing so, since he became Liberal Leader in 2013, he's basically turned the entire Liberal nomination process into something that guarantees that ONLY opportunistic narcissistic sociopaths get nominated as candidates. Canadians just don't know how NDP the Liberal party currently is even now. It's telling that a lot of NDPers have migrated to the Liberal party over the years - several NDP cabinet members from the BC NDP provincial government in the late 80s, hell PIerre Elliot Trudeau - JT's daddy - started political life in the NDP. Gregor Robertson, former Mayor of Vancouver, was legit NDP before running as a Liberal in this past election.

100% Agree with everything you said. I want to add some of my own thoughts, though the order might be off. Many leftists genuinely viewed the unvaccinated and still do view americans and anyone who don't support the liberals the same way the germans viewed the jews, or how the empire of japan viewed the chinese, or how modern china views their ethnic minorities. A "out-group" to artificially make the "in-group" feel more united, no matter if aside from the arbitrary differenence they're identical.

They are encouraged to value the liberal party the same way they value their own family and friends, possibly even more if you have a government job, but knowing canadians they'll probably value the LPC more on their own. I genuinely think the early lead pierre had was only a result of trudeau being unpopular. Even if his replacement didn't have "meh resume" that carney has, if literally ANYONE else replaced trudeau, for example, let's say Freeland became the liberal candidate. The former liberals would've gone back to them and completely forget everything they felt about Trudeau. They blame EVERYONE ELSE but the liberals.

CBC, CTV, Global News etc are literally crown corporations (i.e state-sponsored media). Basically our versions of 'russia today' or 'al-jazeera' or any other state-sponsored media in any other country. It's truly astounding the effect cable media had on boomers. Whatever MSM tells them they believe.

Another part of manipulation is controlled opposition, making the people think they have more freedoms than they actually do. IMO every party besides the conservative and bloc quebecois (who are only in quebec anyways) are controlled opposition. The Greens, NDP, and even the People's Party, who despite being a """conservative party""" only ever badmouthed the conservative party of canada. Hell I don't think I've seen them bad mouth another party even ONCE.

It's a very similar thing with oceania in 1984. "we're at war with eurasia" one day and another day "we're at war with eastasia." The americans are a authoritarian superpower out to kill all canadians, while at the same time claiming that canadians are superior to the inept, geography illiterate american. In 1984 it's ironic as all 3 of the superpowers are equally authoritarian but they pretend to be different. With Canadians, they pretend to be completely different from americans but are infact very similar. There's many canadians that don't know about our country's geography, for example, the ontario and quebec retards who think they'll "crush the subhuman albertans in a week" despite alberta being closer to mexico than ottowa. They view Pierre as a "MAGA sellout" the same way the residents of oceania views goldstein, an opponent to big brother, as a traitor.

And to end off on a comparison i thought about for a while now. I do think Liberal Canada will be looked back on the same way the Weimar republic of germany is. The Weimar republic at the time was actually considered super progressive for the time no matter how brief, both men and woman were allowed to vote and all parties were allowed to participate in elections, including far left and far right ones. Canada likewise was considered one of if not the best nation on earth, before 2015. Of course, both the weimar republic and canada weren't as perfect as outsiders thought, but their reputations weren't without warrant. However, both became a complete shitshow very quickly, almost too quickly. Both collapsed from internal issues, while outside factors did accelerate the collapse, the cracks were already there.

Its funny to think that canadian society can be compared to 1984. War (agaist russia) is peace, freedom (of speech) is slavery, ignorance (from wrongthink) is strength, poverty (for the climate) is prosperity. Trump/Polievre are pretty much goldstein, and liberals (the party) participate in near daily 2 minutes of hate against them. Alliances and the new enemy of the state is always shifting, we have always been at war with America, China is our friend! 2+2=5 (math is racist) ect ect. I will kinda disagree on the weimar comparison though. Weimar was after the fall of the reich and the defeat of Germany after ww2. I would say Canada is reaching the the pre ww1 state of Germany. An empire on the decline, and desperately looking for something to reclaim former glory. The real fun will come after the next war. If we win, our leaders get to feast on the resources of the east and we continue on the downward spiral, if we loose, they have culled the population and can go achieve net zero or something, but then the illusion is shattered and things get ugly.
