If the Quebec "separatist" movement was REALLY about wanting independence, they'd have been gone long ago.

Quebec is all about blackmailing Ontario into giving them way more than their fair share and giving nothing of value back to confederation. Simple as that.

People conflating Alberta separatists with the frog blackmailers are in for a nasty shock.

Taxation without representation is a major factor in many rebellions and secessions in history, and that is exactly what we Albertans get out of confederation. We pay more than our share to be given no respect, no voice and no way to improve the system.

As much as people mock it on the internet, Indians act like how many of families of a specific type of Canadian Conservatism wish their kids act, military kids were raised to be subservient and meek so there are plenty of older ex-military people who love hearing "Saar, I will do the helpful for you and your wonderful family" and don't care about anything else.

Not wanting to be the complainer is a big one, Canadians are like Boxer from Animal Farm, resilient & hardworking but too trusting for our own good.

Northern towns grew quite rapidly before the 1980s. I wonder if relentless injun pandering after the Charter of Rights and the judicial activism that opened up caused white flight towards the cities, resulting in the absurdly centralised country we have now. Ice can be solved with central heating and a good snowplow schedule, but every rural town has a reserve a short drive away.

Central Canada is also a flat open tundra with no natural barriers between it and the Arctic Ocean. Winter there fucking sucks ass, and is infinity times worse then winters in Alaska. The settled parts of Alaska are actually fairly pleasant most of the year thanks to the mountains shielding the southern coast from the Arctic. The pacific keeps things pretty warm, and while the winters in Anchorage, Juneau and wat not are still cold as shit, they aren't "OMIGOD I AM GOING TO DIE" cold. Which is not the case in say, Yellowknife.

The Average low Temperature in Yellowknife is -10 Freedom Units in January.

The Average low Temperature in Anchorage is +12 Freedom units in January.

That 22 Degree difference is yuge when it comes to being able to tolerate living somewhere. Keep in mind that even as far south as North Carolina and Texas temperatures occasionally end up with 12 degrees freedom in the winter. So a cold as balls night in the contiguous USA is the average night in Alaska. We just crank the heat up down here, and up there they do the same. But when your average low is -10 that is already life ruining cold on average, and on a bad day it can get so fucking cold machinery (like your heater) breaks because it cannot handle the stress. It cannot be understated how Geography shapes destiny in many respects.

Basically it's a hockey term, in hockey collisions and fights occur and some player raise their elbows so that the other person gets injured during a collision. Sometimes a collision just can't be avoided but the player has chosen to harm the other player anyways.

It’s a dirty play in hockey. When throwing a hit, you’re supposed to keep your elbows down when doing it. Cucked Liberals and boomers think we can fight dirty against America and not get violently raped in response.
