Oh, he's narcissistic enough to attempt it. Whether he's able to pull it off is a whole other kettle of fish. One of the reasons why Pierre Trudeau was able to stage his 1979 comeback was because Joe Clark's PC government was a minority that collapsed in less than a year. The current year Conservatives are projected to obtain a majority with the LPC looking at a potential fall to fourth place. As for the Senate, the Salisbury Convention would obligate an opposition-dominated upper house to allow the common's legislative agenda to go forward because that was what they were elected on. If the Senate frustrates or thwarts the House of Commons' legislation, Poilievre could argue that the Senate represents the interests of a defeated government and not the will of the people. This could precipitate in a constitutional crisis with calls for Senate reform or abolish it entirely. At this point I'm convinced Boy King Justin's trying to break everything so he can make some sort of comeback in 2029.
-. He starts some sort of trade war with Trump before the election
-. He gets voted out, but because his party is inexorably intertwined with him and because his stepfather Pierre Trudeau was able to come back he stays as leader
-. He has all the hard left senators he appointed gut or outright block anything the conservatives do in office
-. 4 years of decline later. He'll point to nothing being better or everything being worse and grift right back into office because in his view it's his birthright to lead the country.
Go ahead, tell me that he isn't narcissistic and egotistical enough to do this
Perhaps the biggest snag to that plan is that four years in not enough for the public to forget (much less forgive) Trudeau's policies. He is the face of the infinite pajeets imported into this country and the economic hardship that led to the CPC gaining power in the first place. At least PET had the good sense to permanently retire from politics in 1984 before the LPC's crushing defeat at the hands of Mulroney. Trudeau running again in 2029 on a platform of being a messianic figure would more likely kill the party for good and be his family's ultimate legacy.
