A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Seems pretty dumb to me to "protest lockdown" after the govt already put out a fairly sensible timeline of reopening everything and ending restrictions. But I guess people love "protesting" these days.

What happens when they inevitably pull on the fishing rod and snatch it away again?

And some 'Glasgow variant' or whatever won't appear to throw that schedule out of kilter? The controlling element are likely not seeing enough destruction of small business for their liking.

I don't think they'll do that, not because of the rhetoric but just where's the justification for it when literally every adult has been vaccinated?

But hypothetically if they did start trying to push the ending of lockdown to, say, the autumn or something, then I'd say they'll have a hard time doing that.

People have genuinely had enough, the goodwill of the public has basically run out. See the St Paddy's Day party in Liverpool. A thousand people there, forty coppers sent to break it up. It gets to point where the police just can't break it up.

Fifth picture's Manchester. I honestly thought that this was only happening in London.
Nicely spotted. I honestly skimmed them assuming it was all in London.

As regards pushing it back if that happens I honestly think it'll be if the EU commits to its claim that they will refuse to ship vaccines to anyone with better vaccination rates for them (which will include America) and this prevent companies fulfilling their obligation to the UK. But I really doubt it will go that far and if it does there's every chance the UK and US end up doing a very rapid quid pro quo agreement.

It's all kicking off in Bristol, "peaceful protesters" have smashed windows at a police station and set a police van alight in a protest against the latest crime bill

It's interesting. On one hand the police has been absolutely gutted by the refusal to give officers any agency and to focus on quotas and mandates ...but on the other handI wonder if this bill will actually rectify this. has anybody read the new bill they've passed yet?

Lo and behold once more the shit from America flows towards us. Majority of the crowd depicted would fit right in with the BLM protestors in their thread (by which I mean they're white and look like they're trying for a unique appearance and as such blend in with all the other deluded revolutionaries). Including the ACAB signs.

Bristol is the Portland of the UK, full of the great unwashed ACAB/wannabe anarchist student cunts with rich parents who were too stupid or lazy to study hard enough to get into a proper university. They threw the statue of a "white colonialist slave trader" in their town square into a river last year during all the BLM bullshit, it's both hilarious and tragic how hard they're trying to ape our American cousins.

I kind of treat Kiwi Farms as the equivalent of the trailer for what we're getting over here. It's starting to piss off friends, colleagues and family members who ask how I could have seen this crap coming.
You could see it on FB last election, with the push to change your profile pic to show you're voting Labour akin to the signs saying "vote Dem/Rep." Largely so next election if you don't do it people can shame you to ask why the fuck you're not supporting Labour this time but also to shame the Lib Dem and Green voters last time.
Bristol I'm getting more and more disappointed by. I stuck up for their mayor on multiple occasions since he did seem to be a change from their norm and to give more of a shit about the town than the politics but increasingly it's looking less and less so.
We should clearly compensate in the only meaningful way. Sell the protestors into slavery to compensate for the sins of the past. After all, given the utter lack of slaves in Africa in these modern times, I'm sure it would be a symbolic gesture only and as champions of equality they would all welcome the chance to show solidarity with the suffering of those POC slaves from the past.

Just read it. It's mostly a giant fuck you to democracy.

Some other notes:

"Provides that for offenders sentenced to between four and seven years for certain sexual and violent offences the automatic release point will be the two thirds point of their sentence (currently it is halfway)." This is fucking confusing. From what I can tell if you're above 7 you'll still get halfway release?
Child killers will apparently get a mandatory life imprisonment (Although it's "premeditated" and politically acceptable child killings will simply be swept under the rug)
All sex offenses now use the civil standard of proof which is NOT BEYOND REASONABLE DOUBT.
Also, there's specific laws against a future CHOP/CHAZ situation. See "Would create a new offence of “residing on land without consent in or with a vehicle”."

The worst thing is the 'Steve Bray Law' where a person deemed annoying can be arrested.

Like the twat yelling 'stop Brexit' in the background of every news story in Westminster was irritating, but I don't think he should go to jail for it...

Lmao even that Paki twat is sick of that guy just for yelling all the time? Mr. "part and parcel" himself?
