A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

As much as I'd like to laugh at her getting sacked it is worrying to see Labour has also bowed to the Israelis and equate any criticism of Israel as antisemitism. Now we're in the same position as America where both main parties consider Israel untouchable and put their interests above the interests of their own country.
This is how Israeli foreign policy works, it's only a few years since their diplomat was caught on camera arranging to 'take down' British MPs who weren't toeing the line.

No mate, with respect I disagree. Food banks are more important than the West Bank. Labour are unelectable as long as they spend the efforts of the party members ripping each other to shreds over a discussion that belongs in a sixth form debating society. It’s time to drop this and focus on the issues that are important to the voters Labour need to win - and to win back - to get anywhere near an election.

Declaration of interest: Scottish Labour are fucking desperate for candidates and I’ve been tapped up to switch teams and stand.
 
Oh, FFS, not everything is an international Jewish conspiracy run by Israel, Mossad, and AIPAC. If Jews had a fraction of the power /pol/ and the like thought they did we'd all quite literally be on our knees in joyful servitude to God's Chosen Ones. This is probably just internal Labour politics getting disguised as her saying something horrid. Antisemitism is a nice convenient excuse to throw people to the curb, especially in post-Corbyn Labour.

I don't know whether I should give you a horrifying rating or not, but good luck. Labour's political support in Scotland appears to have mostly defected to SNP, especially since the Scottish left seems to be increasingly pro-Independence, and the Scottish Tories have really managed to rebound from the '90's. Also, hope they don't find your account here.

'Three stabbed to death' in Glasgow city centre

It is understood that a suspect was shot dead by police after the incident at a hotel in Glasgow.

Seems three people are dead and the attacker was also shot and killed by armed police response.Also one police officer reported stabbed too


Three people are believed to have been stabbed to death in a stairwell to a hotel in Glasgow city centre.

It is understood that a suspect was shot dead by police.

The Scottish Police Federation have confirmed a police officer was stabbed. Armed police remain at the scene outside the Park Inn in West George Street.

A statement from Police Scotland said the situation was "contained" and there was no danger to the general public.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said reports of the incident were "truly dreadful" and she was being "updated as the situation becomes clearer".

She added: "My thoughts are with everyone involved."

Police Scotland Assistant Chief Constable Steve Johnson urged people to avoid the area.

He said: "Armed police officers attended the incident and I can confirm that a male suspect was shot by an armed officer.

"I would like to reassure the public that at this time we are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident.

"I can also confirm that a police officer was injured while dealing with the incident and that officer is receiving treatment in hospital."

Witness Craig Milroy, who saw the aftermath of the incident from an office building nearby, said he had seen four people taken away in ambulances.

He told the PA news agency: "I saw a man lying on the ground, of African descent, with no shoes on. He was on the ground with someone holding his side - I don't know if it was a bullet wound, a stab wound, or what it was."

Mr Milroy said the man was one of the four taken away by medics and believed him to be a victim of an attack.

He added: "After that we saw commotion, ambulances further up and we saw armed police all running into the hotel next to the Society Room.

"We were still standing outside, after that the police all came down, the riot police and triage team told us to go back in and lock the door."

The hotel is right in the heart of the city centre,and has been housing asylum seekers and homeless people of mostly african descent recently

Hmmm. The hotel was being used to house asylum seekers and it sounds like the victims may have been asylum seekers as well since it took place inside the hotel.

I'm guessing one of them sperged out and stabbed the others, possibly due to intra-racial or religious violence.
 
No! Sturgeon told us we aren't allowed to speculate you bigot. Clearly it was mental health related isolated incident therefore it means we need to use more tax payer money for "asilum seeker" services to help them. Bonus points if it gets blamed on racism the poor darling attacker experienced at the hands of the evil whites.

Um... isn't guys getting stabbed just par for the course in Glasgow, and this is only big news because some brown people got stabbed by other brown people?

Nah, the media figured it was terrorism because black/brown folk involved. We don’t have native black folk in any significant number, all our gangs are made up of white people. White boys stab people isn’t news in Glasgow, it’s Friday night.

Also any right wing radical in Glasgow will have the shit kicked out of them at an early age.
