A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I don't think it's going to be as big a deal as some pearl clutchers are expecting. I was psyched to finally go to the pub after so long, but it's pouring down today so I'm thinking fuck it I'll stay in. I can have a beer and watch the footy at home. Imagine a lot of other people will be the same.
I was talking to the staff of a local pub with a decent size bar garden, they were racing to get everything ready for reopening, the landlord had dumped a lot of money into a refurb.

They were worried about, numbers, controlling entry, comms with the police etc.... Anyway I drove past at 4pm yesterday and the place was dead. The weather wasn't great but that can't have been the only reason.

Too busy getting their hair cut.

Plus people know the media are milling about looking to shame drinkers despite being quite openly supportive of the black supremicists

I'm honestly not surprised in the slightest. All my normie mates were going on about how important the lockdowns were and how stupid the yanks are for protesting it - then the BLM shit happened, and they all went out to protest so they could look good. And now they've gone straight back to stressing how important lockdowns are. It's fucking tiresome.
I feel you there. Aside from going out to protest that's pretty much how my friends are right now. One of them was urging people on Facebook to give simpbucks to black trannies and now his thing is how super serious the lockdown is. At least though I found out from him that Gov. DeWine has basically brought back the old terrorism alert scale but with covid. I'm sure there's no way this means they plan on locking everyone down again

Ngl, that's the first thing that helps make you feel normal again. I got my haircut two weeks ago within a few days of my state's reopening, and you already start feeling better afterwards.
Buzzcut myself down to bald the minute I started getting annoyed by my hair. Growing it back as kind of a Sabaton style mohawk now because why the fuck not.

While that would be nice I need to have a professional haircut for my job. How much would you trust a lawyer with a bubblegum pink mohawk?

I’d retain your services just to see the look on the magistrates face.

FLEX! MUSCLES TIGHT! MADE OF STEEL! FLESH DELIGHT!

I worry that I'm getting a bit chrysanthemum like right now.

In other news, I tested out the new normal this lunch by getting a carvery. One way. Medical fetish gear for staffers. One in one out for the toilet. Card payments only. One person or family per table of four and they'd inch the stuff onto the end and you'd have to shovel it back on. Also had to give name and phone number upon entering. They wrote my number down wrong. I didn't correct them.

The staff seemed to hate it as much as the punters and one admitted that they were only doing this so if someone does get the WuFlu they'll be able to satisfy their insurers they did everything necessary in case they were sued.

Eurrr. I fucking hate the bureaucracy in this country.

There's so much paperwork EVERYWHERE.
Even if you're applying for simple jobs like digging graves you need to have a full linkedin profile and ability to demonstrate you can fill out seven types of risk assessments. before they'll even consider you.

Not sure what alcoholic induced realm you live in, but that should be the case of most pubs which don't have full opening hours on their license. Most pubs do 11-2, then 5-11.

Heck, number of boozers round my way don't open in the "daytime" at all.

4pm on a Saturday? Any pub with a beer garden would be open in Summer....

Mate, do you live on the Isle of Wight? 😂

Come to the city, pubs open for breakfast.

People are not going to go out to restaurants if those are the conditions for eating there. How can you relax and enjoy a meal with these stupid restrictions? After lockdown you would hope people have learned to cook decently, so the incentive to go out and eat is even less.

I'm overseas, but it's the same here. Waiters wear masks, restrictions on people per table, limited toilet access etc. Restaurants I used to frequent have made cost cuts, the food isn't as good, and I probably made better when stuck at home and had to learn how to cook better. Restaurants are not getting same number of customers here.

Black man behaves like a dick when stopped by police, sent back to jail

Apparently it is possible for a black man to be stopped by the police and not be killed, who knew. Yes it's in the UK but the way some of the UK based BLM supporters have been carrying on you'd think this should have been an automatic death sentence.

62 offences on his record including firearms. Yeah nothing to do with your skin colour and everything to do with the fact your just a scummy prick.

Bianca Williams: 'I've never had to experience anything like this', says British sprinter after police stop car

British sprinter Bianca Williams said she had "never had to experience anything like this", after being stopped by police in her car in London.

Williams, 26, and her partner Ricardo dos Santos have accused the Metropolitan Police of racial profiling and acting violently towards them.
"It's a really sad world that we live in and if it's not one black man, it's another black man," a tearful Williams said on BBC Radio 5 Live.

"My heart just hurts."

Williams said she and Dos Santos - who had their three-month-old son in the car - are considering legal action.

She added: "It was just weird that we were treated that way and what hurt me the most was me being dragged away from my son."

Williams and Portuguese 400m record holder Dos Santos, 25, fear they were targeted because they are black and drive a Mercedes.

Police say the vehicle had been on the wrong side of the road and the driver sped off when asked to stop.

Officers were patrolling in the Maida Vale area because of an increase in youth violence.

A police statement said: "Officers from the Directorate of Professional Standards have reviewed both footage from social media, and the body-worn video of the officers, and are satisfied that there is no concern around the officers' conduct."

However, Williams - who says she has been left "really shaken" by the incident - insists "at no point did we drive on the wrong side of the road or speed off".

"We didn't want to get out of the car because of how their behaviour was, they had batons ready and it is very scary, you worry about your life when the police are acting that way, we had a baby in the car," the European and Commonwealth relay gold medallist said.

"My partner got dragged out of the car, they handcuffed him straight away and pinned him up against the wall... I didn't want to be separated from my three-month-old son and they then put me in handcuffs straight away too.

"It's just nasty and the police were talking to him [Ricardo] as if he was scum, as if his life didn't matter.

"The police always say to him you look like someone we're looking for, how can you afford a £60,000 car, you look very suspicious."

Dos Santos and Williams say police handcuffed them while their son was in the car and carried out a search that lasted 45 minutes.

Video of the incident showed them protesting that they had done nothing wrong and Williams screaming "my son is in the car".

Dos Santos, who plans to meet lawyers on Monday, said he had been stopped by police as many as 15 times since they changed their car to a Mercedes in November 2017.

On Monday, British Athletics released a statement about the incident, saying: "We are aware of the hugely distressing footage of Bianca Williams and her partner being handcuffed by the police outside their home yesterday.

"Our staff have been in touch with her and will be on hand for any support required."

The police statement said that at about 13:25 BST on Saturday, officers from the Territorial Support Group "witnessed a vehicle with blacked-out windows that was driving suspiciously, including driving on the wrong side of the road".

The statement added: "They indicated for it to stop but it failed to do so and made off at speed. The officers caught up with the vehicle when it stopped on Lanhill Road. The driver initially refused to get out of the car."

They searched Williams and Dos Santos, and the vehicle. Nothing was found and no arrests were made.

The incident was first raised on social media by their coach, 1992 Olympic 100m champion Linford Christie, who accused the police of abusing their power and institutionalised racism.

Williams, the fifth-fastest British woman in history over 200m, and Dos Santos said a written report given to them by police did not mention driving on the wrong side of the road, and that where they stopped is a single car-width road.

When can the police stop and search you?
In most cases in England and Wales, police can only stop and search you (or your vehicle) if they have "reasonable grounds" that you might be carrying:

  • Illegal drugs
  • Stolen property
  • A Weapon
  • Something that could be used to carry out a crime, like a crowbar
Reasonable grounds for stopping someone cannot be based on race or whether the person is a known criminal.

Instead, officers must base it on current intelligence (has there been a recent crime in the area, for example) and make balanced judgement calls on the behaviour of the suspect.

In this case, the Metropolitan Police says there had been an increase in violent crime in the area and that the car in question was driving suspiciously. Bianca Williams denies this.

If you are stopped, you have a number of rights. This includes being told the reason why you are being stopped, what they expect to find on you and information on how to receive records of the search.

"I was stopped by police for being black. What the driving on the wrong side of the road and failing to stop? Nah it was because I is black."

Once again a black person being "uncooperative" with the police, getting treat appropriately then blaming the police's attitude towards black people for why they wouldn't cooperate in the first place.

Of course the BBC is giving her every platform to give her side and cry for extra pity points (insert Simpsons "your tears mean more than real evidence ever could" meme").

Fuck off you grievance mongering idiot. Nice to sse police are not cucking and instantly apologising for a change.

Well quite. A lot of coppers have what they call the attitude test.

You pull over, are courteous, and so forth, you're likely to get a bollocking and sent on your way / a bollocking and a ticket.

You start screeching about racism and sucking your teeth and yelping about why they aren't catching real criminals, you're getting nicked.

Yup, I once did some chav who was giving it large to his mates for missing the battery clamp on his modded up piece of shit. He was going to get told to knock it off initially but talked himself into a "defect check" of his vehicle which is basically a guaranteed ticket.

I once pulled a guy over who was giving it all the "you're only stopping me because I'm asian driving a BMW". I informed him he had run 2 red lights and turned the wrong way up a one way street all while being followed by a police car. Turned out he had no insurance, was disqualified from driving and had had a few to drink. Still shouted about racism all the way to the nick, then to the Sgt and was still shouting about it when his lawyer turned up. And they still wonder why "the police are racist innit" isn't taken seriously.

On the other side of that I caught a guy about to snort some coke. I went up and told him to hand it over, which he did instantly and with no argument. So coke got disposed of and he got told to go on his way.

Getting back to the story. The police can(when in uniform) order a car to stop for any reason, the driver is obliged to stop. Stop means bring the vehicle to a rest and give the officer their name, address and DoB as requested. That clearly can't be done with him sat in the car with the window up, therefore the act of sitting in the car refusing to cooperate is failing to stop. All of these points have been tested in court. The officer with the batton drawn was acting entirely within guidelines for this sort of scenario.

Not to ask you to powerlevel/dox yourself too much, but are you a bobby in one of those districts that's ultrawoke, like Derbyshire or London? How many actual SJW's and other fags are there in your department, or is it a few fags at the top and in PR who say this shit while the rest of the department begrudgingly goes along.

Pegg continued with racist slurs towards the white and Asian officers, making further offensive racial comments towards a policewoman.

He pushed one officer and spat in another's eye, before calling a constable a "fake Abdullah" with reference to his appearance and the Muslim faith, said the prosecutor.

Yes, definitely just a lovely, wronged guy with a strong passion for racial equality.

I used to be in one of the shit hole areas of the country stacked to the rafters with "diversity". The social justice bollocks was only at the top and a few unpopular officers who would go crying to senior officers over a bit of dark humour. I got out a few years back over a "disagreement" with a senior officer where I couldn't balance their "community good" with my moral compass any longer.
