A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I bag on Britain a lot. Like a lot of people on the internet I am fucking baffled by the culture, and I think it's very stupid nation wise. But I am sorry you actually have to deal with this kind of shit. Emigrate if you can, dude.
 
so during Blitz kids were sent to country side, now kids are getting sent to Africa because it safer ? How, how do you import citizens of shitholes in and it results it bigger shithole ? i mean you have population of 80% shithole 20% nonshithole and it is less safe than 100% shithole ? THAT DOESNT COMPUTE.

I have to question this logic. Did the draft in the UK during ww2 (there was a draft right?) Actually have tough standards? Or was it roughly the same as the US, basically if you're in the right age range and don't have any bad physical issues they take you?
 
Somalian families will sometime ship "problem" kids - boys and men with obvious intractable mental illnesses like schizophrenia - back to the home country where "it's better" i.e. they don't have to be treated because there's no way to treat them and that means they won't cost the family money or embarrass them with an eventual prison sentence.

Does sound like some moms use trips to Kenya as punishment, which does seem appropriate. They probably don't even have Fortnite there.

It might have something to do with how D I V E R S E London has become? With D I V E R S I T Y comes a bunch of different cultures and religions that then all get crammed together in one city, where they're then broken down further into little groups of their own people instead of integrating into their new society.

I know someone from South Africa and it turns out that some African countries actually have a strong drive to be successful, have some sense of pride in themselves and have tight knit communities - and are racist as fuck to anyone who looks one shade off of sandy beige 42 (though other factors are usually involved in them being racist as fuck to others...usually). My friend fucking hates black American culture (especially the women, oof) and I'm one of the few people she can openly bitch to without getting a look of shock lol.

Point is, when you throw in a lot of people from different walks of life into a small area, there's always going to be animosity towards others who look, act and behave differently than them.
Like, not a whole lot of countries today have tried land grabs like most did a hundred or more years ago and most humans also frown upon genocide in general today instead of just razing the earth of those uncultured Spartans across the river.

Maybe the real reason we're seeing less and less war break out is because war's getting smaller: entire countries are on a city scale and maybe when you settle a community of Somalis next to a community of...idk, Iranians and they soon fucking hate each other, well...?

the difference being that neither of these systems made any claim of putting the individual and the choices of the individual before the defense of society at large. that is what liberalism says, and that's liberalism's big lie. also, national socialism is hitler's own personal spergery, and is actually quite different from any other example of fascism

These kind of narratives are always tempting, but if you think about the math, it really is a very small effect. Let's say people were having kids at 24 in average and enrolled into war at 18. This could only hit a slice of 6 years demographicly, which means that there are 25 year olds who have already passed on their genes and 17 year olds who have been unaffected.

These are assumptions from the top of my head.

Looking at stats, the UK mobilised 8.6 million people and about a million died. When you frame it like that (accurately) you can see that it possibly can't have a deeply significant effect in lessening the physique.



Likelier reason is that physical labour is far less common than it was.

That's a fair point, but even if you remove 12.5% of the top 50 percentile for a5-10 year age range, it would impact genetic stock to a measurable level. I think you're right, though. It wouldn't have the massive effect Orwell suggested.
 
I've been to Somalia. What are these kids being told that would ever make them think that leaving London for Somalia is a good decision? Is this like the German ISIS bride mentality?
