A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

It's interesting, but utterly worthless because they're not gonna do shit. They had more than a decade in power where they did the literal exact opposite of most of this. Anyone who believes anything the Tories say at this point is retarded..

The Greens voter base
Bit of an oxymoron IMO, there's no real sizeable core gr**n party vote like Shire Tories or West Country Liberals or "ALWAYS VOOTED LAYBAH ALWAYS WILL", there's fairweather protest flutters and the students (if they can be arsed even registering) and the ever ephemeral muzzie masses (who'll flip on a dhiram for whoever sucks their foreskinless cock must full throatedly) but... that's not real loyalty is it, it's the definition of a fart happening to be in the same direction the wind happens to be blowing is all. That's why they're doomed to never be taken seriously, they're not burning at both ends they're just burning.

The other aspect is their constitution.

Tories: Members feed in policy ideas through a forum and pick a leader, and the leader decides the party's policies (you vote for the leader who aligns with your priorities).

Reform: Similar, members can pass advisory motions but it's basically the leader they select who decides the party policies.

Labour: Members pick a leader and also constituency representatives. The leader generally sets an agenda, but manifestos are signed off by the National Executive Committee in a special Clause V meeting (constituency representatives, MPs, trade unions etc). The leader negotiates the party's policies with the NEC.

Lib Dems: Members propose policy and it gets workshopped by various committees, then vote on the policy.

Greens: Members propose and vote on policy. Leaders basically decide what parts of policy to emphasise in a manifesto.

The Greens are incredibly beholden to their membership.and extremely motivated membership blocs can force through really esoteric policy. It also makes coalition forming very difficult, as the leaders don't necessarily have the power to agree to compromising on some policies.

Apparently those three lassies found on the beach in Brighton had been to a student night at a nearby club. I wonder if they were being pursued by recent arrivals? Likely not as they tend to go for lone women.

I know that stretch of the coast very well indeed and something you don't realize about the sea, if you didn't grow up near it,is just how dark it is looking out to the channel at night. It's like staring into the void.

I’m puzzled on the unions.

Are they ‘socialist’ pro-immigration? ‘More ‘workers’ = more members = more funds = more power’?

If they gave a fuck about the working class of this country they’d be Restore, of course (rainbow). None of the unions were built with a ‘Deliveroo’/‘Amazon Prime’/‘Uber’ economy in mind.

The police said it was extremely windy and cold but the club (Quarters) said its very common for club goers to spill onto the beach and drink until about 7am. Sounds like they were drunk and got into the sea for a lark around 5 and didn't realise how cold it was : (

Do you not realise your body temperature gets bitterly cold when you are drunk or did they just jump into the sea from a cliffside and they were too far away from the beach?

I can't imagine that all 3 all just passed out at the same time.

The sea was reported as extremely rough, and according to a quick google check (which could be wrong) the tide would have been coming in from around 3.40am. If they women were drunk on the beach and the waves were strong, it could be that they were near the shoreline and one of them got pulled in. I've seen people get knocked off their feet on a beach by a sudden wave during incoming tide, even when they hadn't been in the water.

The Greens voter base is going to cause the party to unravel at some point in the future.
To say nothing of the ‘leadership’:

Seems like classic ‘use this big talk to get in and then immediately prevaricate and claim it’s not as simple as we thought or that we’ve switched priorities once we’re actually in’.

I think the ‘crack down on cannabis’ is purely because Kemi doesn’t want the ‘pro-weed black person’ jibes to come out. I can see no reason not to legalise weed, the cost of continuing to fight it compared to the money brought in if it was legalised and taxed is a no brainer and it’s pretty much openly smoked in plenty of places anyway.

Fair enough, in my original post I did give a very broad strokes summary to someone who seemed to be an American, so I could have used a bit more nuance.
Honestly I was surprised Reform were doing that well too. While council tax is only one metric the way some coverage confidently talks your presentation of things seems more factual. I looked up the figures because I was unsure how many councils they actually controlled before this least election and things like the below;
as well as that Independent one surprised me since I assumed things were going worse.

On the topic of Jess Philips and her resignation Birmingham looks like it might be one of the funniest areas to watch going forwards.

The authority, the largest unitary council in the UK, has shifted from being Labour run to no overall control. Reform is the largest single group, now with 23 of the 101 seats.
Reform on Monday announced that Kingstanding councillor Jex Parkin, 24, had been elected as its group leader on the council, with Charles Latchford as his deputy.

The Green Party took 19 seats, with Labour on 17 and the Conservatives with 16.

The Liberal Democrats have 12 seats, alongside 13 independents.

Glebe Farm and Tile Cross was the last of 69 wards left to be called after teams ran out of time to finish counting votes on Friday evening, with counting restarting from 13:00 BST on Monday.

Talks will now begin between parties on forming a viable administration. No group has even a quarter of the seats on the authority, let alone getting above the half (effectively 52 seats) required for a majority.
I'm betting a Labour, Greens and Hamas Independent alliance which means the shit West Midlands police recently got themselves in will seem pleasant compared to the near future.

His partners seem to be nonces too. His half brother transitioned and took on the name Challenor after the father was charged. I
I need to re-read that thread, there were so many twist and turns in it that I forgot things like this.

I actually knew him personally. As in I'd see him every week due to a friend group crossover. When the news came out it caused a few of us to move away, or change jobs out of a desire to just get away from the misma of the situation. Evil bsstard.
Oh god that must have been like brushing past evil. I know that smacks of histrionics but he knew what his dad did. No way he didn't. And anyone who abuses a child is absolutely irredeemable.

Do you not realise your body temperature gets bitterly cold when you are drunk or did they just jump into the sea from a cliffside and they were too far away from the beach?

There's no cliffs right near that part but there are further along although you would have to be weapons grade stupid to jump from there. It's the cliffs where Nick Caves son fell to his death.

No. As I knew the Dad. He did charity fun runs all the time, and some friends introduced him to me. He used to get people to call him 'Baloo' because he said he was so friendly. Messed with my head for years afrer the news came out.

I completely get that. I've a mix in my family of those of us who were abused, abusers, those who knew of the abuse and those who genuinely had no idea. The ones who didn't know are really messed up by it because they feel so much guilt. What normal people don't understand is the lengths abusers will go to hide what they do.

Brighton is a pebbly beach, and if it’s a bit rough, that kind of substrate churns around and makes getting your footing hard. The sea Up North is about 6-7C at 5am right now. People underestimate how fast you can slip, and get dragged under and how fast you’ll die in such water.
My bets would be either one went in and slipped and her friends tried to help her and got caught too, or all three were attacked and deliberately drowned by the cultural enrichment.

Words!
Words! Words! I'm so sick of words!
I get words all day through;
First from him, now from you! Is that all you blighters can do?

Don't talk of less pakis and wogs; If you hate nogs,
Show me!
Tell me no dreams
Of sinking the boats. If you want my vote,
Show me!

I'm going to stick to my guns on the theory he'll persist until July to qualify for severance pay.
He's going to stick around for severance pay? A rope is more English but if we must then the French method isn't the worst I guess.
arrested, charged and convicted in 48 hours. FFS they're actually proud of that.
A conviction in two days sounds like the type of shit that would be revoked in a few months and end up with the people being given a juicy hand out for the troubles (on the back of the tax payer of course). Glad to know that we can do the full criminal process in 48 hours but if I get my house broken into then I'll be lucky to hear anything at all from the police in that time.

Dead body found in body of water, last location club. Look. I fucking hate brown people too but let's not be retarded. Yes it was the brown people who caused three drunk women to end up in the body of water and also those brown people were also the smiley face serial killer who really exists. Drunk woman falls over, probably wearing heels, falls in body of water, drunk friends try to help, slip because they're drunk and not strong enough to deal with someone thrashing around in the water, all three end up drowning.

That's exactly what I said. Likely not them being pursued by a recent arrival because it was 3 of them, and those men prefer girls who are on their own, because they're easier prey.

this shit really needs to be completely standardised across the board.
It's a reflection of how our democracy developed. MPs were selected by constituents (sometimes against their will, which is why MPs can't resign but have to be "appointed as bailiff to the Chiltern Hundreds" so they become ineligible to be MPs).. They were all independents, but factions within Parliament developed. The Prime Minister was the leader who commanded the confidence of the House, nothing to do with parties, but you can see that someone who had the backing of various factions would be most likely to win the vote.

Parliament got in a fit about whether or not Charles II's Catholic brother (the later James II) should be allowed to reign. One group who was very opposed to this (and to Catholics and royal interference in Parliament in general) were derisively termed Whiggamores (Scottish Presbytarians who hated James) while the group that were pro-Catholicism and monarchy in general were insulting termed Tories (from the Irish word for a Catholic brigand who opposed the English). Over time Whigs and Tories became the nicknames of the two main factions of Parliament, so you might go "Clive is pretty Whiggish and loyal to the Duke, so I think I'll pick him as my MP as he broadly agrees with my interests".

It's only really in the 19th century do you start properly seeing more formal associations of MPs after we got rid of rotten boroughs, extended the franchise and made voting a secret ballot, so suddenly factions needed to properly start campaigning and fundraising and appealing to the masses rather than a few landowners. But our political parties came from different places, Labour was organised labour, the Conservatives were downline from the Tories, Lib Dems came from a Labour splinter (SDP) and remnants of the Liberals etc. etc. There's no one rulebook on "how to be a political party" because political parties are a relatively recent phenomenon, and a lot of party members would lose their shit if another political party tried to tell them how to run things.
