A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Guido's spreadsheet of public Labour rebels stands at 75, including 5 PPSs.

The Times and others are reporting that several Cabinet members, including Mahmood, have visited Starmer this evening and told him the game is up.
We've not had a properly "febrile" evening in a while, it almost makes me nostalgic.

Starting to feel my confidence from a few days earlier that nothing would happen after the local elections was misplaced. Sorry if anyone a) noticed and b) felt misled.

Though I do think the results from the locals are being used as an excuse/tipping point rather than an actual reason.

I also think that this whole thing is symptomatic of the mental pygmies we have as a political class. I'm sure many here will welcome anything that results in Starmer's downfall - and I have some sympathy with that - but I think it's just more evidence of how fucked we are in terms of having competent governance. There is nobody better waiting in the wings, and the size of Labour's majority means an early general election is remote. And even when we get that general election, nothing will be better.

A woman who claims to that her father was an original member of the BNP still has hundreds of hours of never before seen Bowden speeches and talks. He's started uploading apparently never before seen footage filmed in 2008 at the Red, White and Blue BNP family festival located at Sawley in Lancashire coaching members of rhetoric, party ideas and how to speak properly when confronted by hostile actors.

If I were Starmer, I’d call an election right now to fuck over Labour permanently. Better to put it down now that just resign and let it shamble on until 2029.

I think a lot of Labour will have simply been caught off guard by how 'bad' the Reform situation is. Many of these people are willfully ignorant of the wider British public's views on immigration and buy wholly into the migrants good propaganda. I believe that many councillors who lost their posts, and the MPs of those wards, honestly did not expect a loss of 1500 councillors and for Reform to gain 1400. Welsh Labour lost their historic grip on the Senedd as well. The election was a 'we cannot keep ignoring this' moment for many who had simply stuck their head in the sand.

I think you're right and this is something I dont understand: they see popular disgust with immigration and its consequences, which has become the driving force behind the rise of Reform, yet those same people will insist that the way to "combat" this is by lurching to the left and being more progressive. Do they honesly think that a Polanski type figure will make everyone forget or not care that violent brown people they have nothing in common with are flooding our country?

Do they think that providing UBI to the feckless NEETs we have to endure will act as some sort of relief when we have to pay for it?

I do not understand it at all.

Yeah

Honestly with how retarded politicians are yea. Probably. They're probably too busy celebrating the whole keir starmer appointed a fucking paedophile with no security clearance to one of the most important roles in government thing being out of the news cycle.

It’s pretty hard to ignore Reform dominating the polls for the past year.
Labour spent the last couple years pushing policy that no one voted for. They have been ignoring the public outcry at constant brownoid invasions and stabbings. The political class are kept safe and protected in their cosmopolitan Westminster bubble, they could tune out the polls and lock up the racist naysayers on twitter because they have ThinkTanks that tell them otherwise and polls that show everyone loves them instead.

Yes. Communist/socialist theory is predicated on the idea that 'a state with communism' (or rather, a state with X ideology) is the final evolution. Think of it like Pokemon; the belief is that you go from being a Level 1 Mudslinger, to a level 17 Modsociety, to a level 36 Commutopia. There is no deviation or 'back tracking', only progress forward, and Forward Is Always Good. If we just keep grinding, we will get to level 45 in our society and everyone will be happy. The only asnwer is the ideology, once the Ideology is achieved we will all be happy. They are unable to see or think that the Ideology is already in power and causing issues.
This is why, when someone leftie complains about the rent prices or food prices or no jobs, if you remind them that X legislation was overturned or introduced (such as introducing mass migration) they will simply shut down. Anything from the Ideology is good and cannot be bad, and it's a mysterious other force (capitalism, racism, sexism) that causes Bad.
EDIT: see also 'End of History' theories. Fukuyama argued that with the end of the Cold War, capitalism and liberalism had 'won' not just the war, but had beaten the ideology of communism and won the ideological war, thus being the 'only' way for a state to be. The end of humanity's ideological evolution- there can be no other, greater, form than this. You see people on the left and right, aghast that the Persians want to 'return' to a monarchy, as monarchy is soooo last century.

It would be enjoyable to see this lot sweat.

I get the impression that Hoyle is still cranky from caving over the Gaza stuff and his recent altercation with Keir adds to that. The current cabinet being trapped in some serious questions with a Speaker from their own party without even a semblance of pity in his heart could be fun.

Maybe I am being greedy, but I really do want Starmer to cling on remorselessly and force the rest of them to pry him off like a limpet. If there is no chance of the government being competent (and there is no chance of that in this Parliament), then I at least want the government to be amusing.

Lol the number of MPs calling for Kier to go is literally going up by ten everytime I refresh the BBC News website. 50, 60, now 70. Let's pump up those numbers.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood also just told him to fuck off, its not just the butthurt out-of-favour left-wing.
Sky News / BBC / GB are all running live broadcasts, they know he's fucked and they're circling like sharks.

If I was Starmer, the sight of that fat wheezy cunt Lammy rolling in to tell me to quit would push me into calling a general election just to fuck the lot of them off.

Starmer calls Lammy a 'watermelon eating nigger faggot' then calls a general election, refuses to stand down, and runs on a platform of "All the people that wanted me out, should lose their jobs."
