A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Huzzah! We should make TV like that again, great fun.
The plan appears to be for the Cabinet to present Starmer with an ultimatum tomorrow
Do any of the options involve an angered populace reintroducing the gibbet?
I jest, of course*, but there’s a point behind it (sadly not an iron one…) And that is that there are no real consequences for failure, or deliberate destruction of the country.
If I do certain things wrong at work, I’ll get fired, and there’s a whole load of things I could actually end up with criminal charges for. I don’t do any of those things (gah, I knew ozempic would be a blockbuster and I obeyed all the rules about insider trading like a good girl…) I obey the rules I said I would, and I try my hardest to do a good job.
But our politicians? Zero consequences. it really is sad that the worst fate they get is losing their seat and bouncing into some fat cat role at an NGO, or place on a board somewhere. They don’t live in the places they ruin, they don’t have to face what they create. There’s no feedback - you don’t live among the people, you just bugger off to Davos.

The haunted look of a man completely out of his depth, who knows his days are numbered, but will spend his remaining time pathetically flailing in an attempt to cling on for as long as possible.

Why can't Labour see this?
They can see it, they just don't want to.

Take comfort in the fact that a leader forced to resign will spend at least a few years in a uniquely humiliating position. Former PMs sent to the back benches are humiliated, however they might cope otherwise. They're reduced to nothing. They're rarely listened to in Parliament, they're ignored in debates, and they're never given committee seats. I know this all feels like weak sauce, but for the sort of ego-driven lunatics that seek power, it causes severe psychic damage that they may never recover from.

But that's how he's always looked...

Do you think that once they have been removed from power, they will eventually be arrested for treason against the nation?
Oh gosh wouldn't that be wonderful? No, I don't think they will, but yes,I do fantasize,on a semi regular basis, about nearly every MP being given the Musssoli treatment (in Minecraft). In my particular daydreamings, Charles Kennedy comes back to life and decides who walks and who gets the piano wire necklace.

Promoting a reform football shirt and not wearing it in the fucking promotional tweet is the type of retardation I'd expect from old nige. What you couldn't fucking swap clothes for two seconds to take some promotional photos?
The immigrant they gave the job to help with visa status.
I genuinely didn't even know this was fucking legal. I didn't think you could be elected if you weren't born in this country let alone not even a fucking resident.

Holyrood changed the rules in the last couple of years to allow people even on temporary visas to seek election to pass laws that affect everyone else.

They reason they did this was to produce exactly this sort of outcome. What they're really anticipating is a Westminster vs Holyrood showdown when his graduate visa is up and he's told to leave. Kenmure Street all over again, but this time on the political stage. The evil English not letting the thoughtful none binary waste of oxygen "New Scot" live his best life at the taxpayer's expense.

Everything that comes from Scottish nationalists is designed to stoke maximum grievance and this is a festering turd that will ripen in a few years.

Though I get the feeling he'll quit before then citing mental health reasons.

I used to believe this but I don't any more.
I think they genuinely don't understand that Joe Public is sick to the back teeth of uncontrolled migration and they just want it to fucking stop. They're still talking about a change of leadership - what the fuck will that achieve? Unless they're planning to put Stephen Miller in as PM it won't make the blindest bit of difference, and everyone knows that.

These cunts still think that they can finesse a way out of this by just saying the right combination of contrite/soothing/stern phrases, but they can't. Labour, Conservative, Boris, Teresa, Sadiq (?), Keir: they're interchangeable and it just keeps getting worse. They've collectively burnt through any credibility that conventional politics ever had with their constant smug lying and game-playing (Welsh schoolboy, anyone?) and I think a lot of people have just stopped believing a thing they say, but they haven't caught on yet.

David Smith in his little letter warning about the potential "disaster" of a populist government, as if millions of people's lives aren't already a disaster and have been for many years.

What's most interesting to me is that TPTB don't seem to be aware yet that the next target is human rights legislation. If they knew, they'd be going mad, but I haven't seen any of them mention it so I don't think they're aware. And the reason they're not aware is because they're not listening to or looking at what's actually going on.

I have no idea how the fuck people remember all this shit honestly. I can just about remember some of the funny numbers like the 70% inbreeding rate, 70% tax contribution rate, 70 iq level, 70 year old gilf's mobile number. I can hardly name 5 politicians in the current day. Idk if it's just me hating politics or if my brain is too full of bird and mushroom identification things. I can't identify almost any politician, I can identify amanita mushrooms though, both give me the same feeling but at least one is native and looks cool. Though maybe my mushrooming skills would come in handy, I bet I could get a job at reform with them. After all the most sought after mushroom in this country does involve aimlessly wandering around trying to spot nipples while staring at cow shit.

It's just what I read in the wake of the reaction to this minivan guy being elected.

Though I did find myself heavily involved in the online debate surrounding the subject of Scottish independence at the time of the referendum and after. It's been fascinating to watch the political journey as a somewhat unified movement has fractured along the faultlines of progressive politics. It's clear, for instance, that former leading talking heads such as Stuart Campbell (of Wings over Scotland) are far more concerned with troons than independence. And good on him for that. I think in private he'd admit that Scotland had a lucky escape by voting No in 2014.

They definitely do understand. TPTB got complacent that they could use immigration as a spooky bugbear/scapegoat/political chess piece and say all the right rhetoric while still increasing immigration to fuel the (paltry) GDP growth because we're all too stupid to notice.

Most people are now noticing the disconnect. So TPTB are basically deciding that they need to try different jangly keys to distract everyone and then we'll all forget we were angry about immigration levels. I also suspect this is part of where the sudden massive global push for age verification has come from, because it will basically de-anonymise the internet and let them control messaging significantly more.

Most of the political class are arrogant, think they're better than us, and sneer at us behind closed doors. That holds true whether it's Keir sneering at vegan Millenial liberals or Nige sneering at middle aged pub blokes.

At the moment, as a bone to throw, they are slightly addressing the elephant in the room, as immigration has dropped

with particularly wishful trackers suggesting 2026 might be on track for the lowest level of net migration since 1997, but obviously this a very selective statistic... even if it was dropping to that extent, it still feels differently when instead of Madga from Gdansk it's Anil from Uttar Pradesh.

As was pointed out upthread it's SNP shenanigans. Other have also pointed out that this is a recurring tactic of NGOs and the like, hammer through stuff like this in a small area and then use that as a reason to force everyone else to play along.

The council/schools of sanctuary scheme is another one.

Even if that was true it's still not a solution. They are here. They are already draining resources. They are already committing crimes. The current amount on them is unsustainable. Even if we don't import more we still already have too many.
This thread has started glowing so hard. Why are people engaging with obvious bait. NotACop1488 is suggesting we start a race war now and some idiots are replying.

Stop engaging with these obvious fedposters !
I don't want a race war either. I'll do a swimming war maybe or a walking war. Racing is a bit too intense for me. Don't worry though fedposting will collapse soon anyway. The post office is already in the shitter and royal mail isn't far behind it.

Was the immigration 'Boriswave' basically just the political class panicking at the thought of Svetlana not being able to come over and wipe their 90 year old parent's bums post Brexit, them trying to 'correct' this but 'over correcting' it, and it turning out to not have actually been an issue in the first place?

Guido's spreadsheet of public Labour rebels stands at 75, including 5 PPSs.

The Times and others are reporting that several Cabinet members, including Mahmood, have visited Starmer this evening and told him the game is up.

It's also net. Recorded arrivals are still higher than any point prior to 2020. The majority of people leaving are probably students actually being forced to leave by changes the Tories implement right before they were booted out, whereas the arrivals are permanent.
