A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I was listening to Connor's video about Reford cow-tailing to Israel and the UAE. At this point, I am done. I was done before, but fuck Nigel and his Tory wet shit. Braverman has said nothing since coming in, and then she was a shell. Same with Jenrick, but the problem is they will leave once Reform goes down to 25-20 points.

The Habib stuff is fine, it's mostly Lowe being based, saying he cannot be in a party fronted by a Muslim or someone adjacent to it. I can see Jenrick joining Lowe honestly because with Nigel, you have to worship Muslims. Lowe seems not to give a shit about Jews, thank Christ. He has condemned the synagogue attacks, but always labeled them as Muslims being the issue.

Habib is christian, which is where I do tend to draw the line on who to tolerate. He also seems to not want to be a party leader and only started his party out of desperation for an alternative to Farage, so as long as he's not in a position like yusuf whatsisface (i.e. as long as he's not in a position to facilitate foreign/islamic entryism) I reckon he's not a problem. Not in that sense, at least. The concern I have with him is that he might turn out to be another disaster capitalist, who just wants to generate discord so he can profit from trading property around. not the impression I get at first glance, but I'll have to look into what First Property Group (his investment company) gets up to to be sure. I just hope he doesn't turn out to be a mass investor in migrant housing or something equally stupid.

In the interest of some semblance of fairness we have no direct link to the source. That post reads like a parody of a Reform supporter and while there are some terminally dumb ones out there a random social media account does not represent a political party.

If I made a social media account called "Trumpismydaddy" and spammed pro-pedo content at a bare minimum I would expect the Farms to dig into it before going, "this proves Trump is pro-pedo!" Similarly while too tired to look at tonight it's possible that the Sharia law supporting buffoon in the posted image is not actually representative of a typical Reform supporter and their comments section contains recommendations about the best way to neck themselves.

Ah you're right, maybe I'm being unfair. I guess I reserve judgement for now, but if that turns out to be credible or in any way representative of what Reform is about these days then they've lost me and I'm sure a lot of others.

Know a guy from the arrse website that went in to cattle and farming. His views on halal were pretty straightforward. He found it unnecessary and barbaric. Considering that website is for ex-soldiers, I take some 'stock' in that. I think he ended up in Spain with like a coupla hundred cows or something. Whatever. He was not a fan of Halal at all.

I don’t really talk about this but I always liked Lowe and the very day I’m complaining that we’re fucked because Farage is a useless, untrustworthy cunt, we get a new party.

Pretty much. It genuinely read as a joke post to me at first, especially the, "I believe the victim" rhetoric.

Joined in 2022. Prior to Feb this year they barely posted themselves, all in 2025, did a passable amount of replying but nothing compared to the spamming they are now doing. It doesn't smell like a parody post but it does have the vibe of artificially trying to steer the conversation in the manner of a bot or PR account. It also does not seem to be affiliated with Reform save for being a fan.
