A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

That is a retarded argument.

I want to suffer because I cannot find a compromise, give me more marxism.

Tory ( Conservative ) , Reform, Advance and what ever the new one is have no choice but to combine to beat Labour, Greens "Independents" re muslims,

This is not a game anymore, this is not a game. The people behind Reform, Advance etc need to start talking.
I will not compromise on sending them all back. 500000 isn't enough, 1 million isn't enough, every last one of them and that includes Nigel's besty and Reform top man Muhammad Ziauddin Yusuf.

I am a British ethno-nationalist, and as I say I will be voting for the party most likely to rid us of the foreigners that plague us. That could never be a party who's head of policy is a Pakistani.

You can't tell those who 'wun't be druv' (as they say say in Sussex - meaning 'won't be told').

Some people on here would IMO love Starmer to continue just so they can post edgy comments for upvotes and likes.

I'm a proud member of Reform UK, I'm trying to do my bit to make Wales and Britain great again, but this seems to annoy a lot of people on here because I'm my own person and I don't want to be like them or 'part of the gang.'

Reform UK isn't perfect, but it's the only credible chance we have and the amount of times I've stated that Nigel may be a big part of it but he isn't the be all and end all...

Anyway, I'd best watch what I say - I've already had a warning from 'on high' here and even Josh isn't that appreciative of my efforts to get Reform UK to back Kiwi Farms against OFCOM.

The delete account button looks like an option, I don't mind losing if it means that some people here feel that they can have a win for once.

Oh no, please don't leave, how will the thread survive without you gobbling hopium and brown cock in equal measures?

As for the above about Starmer, you are utterly retarded. There will be no appreciable change if Reform are elected because they are now utterly consumed by the blob. I don't want tinkering around the edges and deporting 20000 Somalis counterbalanced by importing 1 million Hindus (they don't like Muslims you guys!).

Your Islamic Tory party is already collapsing. Get on the Lowe Lorry or you’ll be left behind!

We have varying opinions about how to achieve pretty much the same outcome.

We can shout and scream and insult each other no end for the next year or so, but eventually we will have other combine.

The point I am trying to make is that, we need to come together when it matters.

When it matters, the Left just consolidate, regardless of belief, they just Solidify.

The mid-right needs to learn how to do that. Discussions, and argument and shouting matches are all good, but when it comes to voting, we need consensus.

You just cannot win a democratic vote with 4 parties splitting votes.

The Reform quote was one encouraging multiculturism. The last 30 years in politics has taught us that means empowering the invaders.

So I should vote for the most palatable taste of dog shit ? In the same vain hope that Boyo has that it will develop into something better ( but blatantly won't ).

Conservatives should stand for capitalism, free markets, lower taxation and less government interference. If Reform are socialist in nature, how are these two going to unite ? They don't even agree on the most fundamental principles.

There is another option.......and I think it's getting to the stage where there are enough pissed off British men that there is a much greater possibility that it's going to happen.

Socialist in nature

No. For the love of God, just fucking no. I am fucking done with paying for other peoples' lifestyles. How can Reform be Socialist, but in favour of free markets ? Do you or anyone know what they stand for ? Because you can't have both.

Call me schizo, but I think the Beeb is laying the ground for a Rayner premiership within the next year.

One giant boys' club? Why Westminster can still feel like a man's world - it's an OpEd by kuenssberg. The core of the story seems to be that Starmer puts off meeting with women as much as possible and likes to leave them hanging when they get in trouble.

The other option is close.

When, according to GB News, around half of the Muslims here no longer feel welcome and half of them are apparently thinking of moving on (maybe they're weary of Nigel) then there's a bit of hope.
The polls saying, "minority group feels unhappy" always are used by people to claim people need too bend over even further backwards for said group. They do not represent any real intent to leave the country over it, merely a whine that everyone else needs to pander to them more.

Fuck me sideways Made, I try so hard not to hand out dumb reactions but this merits it.

Why the hell would he want the help of Reform? They can do nothing for a case being pursued in the US courts on US standards, the only thing it does is let them feign some manner of support on freedom of speech grounds. Which is more about appealing to their base than doing anything meaningfully useful for Josh and the shit he is wading through.

You might have been well-intentioned but the harsh truth is Reform would be a hindrance to his efforts, not any sort of help.

Same thought I had when I saw it, they're desperate to play the boy's club card. I suspect because it's rhetoric that works against a lot of the current leaders of fringe parties making inroads with the voters.
