A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

MiW the way you talk about Reform really gives me cult member vibes. They've yet to win anything serious yet and you're now talking about a thousand-year Reform Reich?

nige will step down a couple months before GE and then the party will nose dive, he does this every time. I don't even think he wants to be PM.

Advance UK (some 40k members) and Restore UK are merging. Ben Habib's political strategy continues to intrigue.
Kemi Badenoch has acknowledged the Rape Gang Inquiry. Interesting that in the last two days Labour and Lib Dem MPs showed up to the inquiry, the Express and Mail put out articles on it, and now the Conservatives have officially acknowledged it.
The truth about grooming gangs must be faced, however uncomfortable.

Huge credit to @fionagoddarduk for the extraordinary bravery she’s shown in telling her harrowing story.

I’ve been following the @rapeganginquiry closely, and the courage of survivors and family members, including @MarlonTag is overwhelming.

Earlier in the week members of my justice team and the parliamentary party supported the inquiry.

Conservatives will continue to fight for justice and truth.

This is going to be a rug pull, isn't it? Turns out, all of the rape gangs were ackshually huwhite people
It's really funny how the only adverts you'll see which involve 100% white people are the domestic abuse ones or the paedo ones. Remember that one a while back where some white lads are in a pub and the guy appears to share images of kids and everyone's mood changes?

Oh yeah, and the army recruitment ones (after they realised the shitstorm of the hijab army recruitment one)

work to get out of the ECHR, UN, possibly NATO (though I get there are reasons why we should stay for now), WEF etc. and form a successful Government overtaking Reform UK in the polls?
What’s actually in their manifesto/intentions? I want to see it outlined and written down and committed to. I want to see it written down that they will look at and rip out the structural issues that are allowing all this; all the stuff Blair and his acolytes put in. I want the what and the why and the how.
I want detail, and intent. Outline how NGOs are funnelling people into the country, and what will they DO about it? How are these NGOs stopped? How will the Blair era changes be reversed? What’s the plan?
And ‘out of EHCR’ isn’t enough because all the worst bits are now in OUR law. Will that change under reform? How will it change? Which bits get removed?
Just leaving the EHCR, well forgive me but I’m cynical - I think all the real protections will go and all the crap left in our law will stay and that’s not acceptable to me.
I want a set of detailed plans. Whomever seems to have the best handle on a realistic way to fix this mess gets my vote.
I want to like reform, but until I see a set of detailed plans I’m hesitant.
And they should be able to - my god, I have to provide justifications pages long with data for every little increase in resource at work.

He's still dribbling on about Reform being the saviour of the UK, even though it's filled with browns and the same people who spent the last 15 years in govt fucking up the country.
He's mentally ill.

Please tell me that this isn't true.
The announcement was taken down and my mobilefagging ass didn't archive it, he is calling a meeting of Advance meetings in 'the next few weeks' to determine the terms of a merger - Councillors staying on, leadership, etc, I presume.
Badenoch touching on the rape gang inquiry is not a 'political rug pull', I think she is either genuinely horrified by some of the accounts (especially as they come out alongside Nonce Labour stories) and/or she is seeing which way the wind is blowing which is 'hang all paedos' and 'deport everyone darker than a cup of tea'.
The most interesting reaction to Restore UK/Advance UK will be seeing what Labour and Starmer do; do they give the council elections the go ahead now the 'right-wing' is potentially split? Do they feel safer now Reform is fucking itself over?
Watch what the Tory converts to Reform do as well, I could potentially see Jenrick jumping ship (not now, but down the line). I personally want to see a brown try to join Restore/Advance and either be told 'you can join and support but you can't run as an MP' or be told to fuck off.

>straight out of the islamophobe playbook
>banning sharia councils
Holy fuck lmao
He thinks that reform is going to destroy and replace the cons entirely, like the whigs were ages ago. If they do that, and politics remains as plodding and slow as it has been in the past, it makes sense. I think Reform are useless, and have been stuffed full of the cons, so I think it's going down the toilet.
Reform will be the political vehicle for Islam if they continue down this trajectory.

Not badenwog specifically, i mean the established parties jumping on it. They've done fuck all about it for 40 years and now they're all of a sudden going to make sweeping changes?
Call me cynical and I don't buy it.
This is the party that is 100% going to get rid of muslims and not continue to flood the country with immigrants while vilifying white brits.
Imagine defending halal slaughter and burqas :story:

@Made In Wales

Would you accept a reform landslide victory even if it meant the introduction of sharia law?

Not just 'Cons' but Labour as well.

As ever, you are entitled to your beliefs as I'm entitled to mine.

We've won over the Working Class vote base and forced the Tories into a corner.

Restore and Advance are now realising that they'll need to merge just to match the level of Britain First - it's like Boreham Wood and Carlisle United taking on Coventry City.

The one good thing is that Labour continue to bury themselves.

The Torys, Reform, Advance and what-ever the new one is, will have to combine.

I have written ( pen and paper style ) to Badenoch directly saying she needs to dump the Wets of what remains of her party.

The Conservatives lost the election ( labour did not win ) because the Tory wets had influence.

The Wet's are better off as labour and libdem candidates.

Imam is guilty of raping women and girls as young as 12 after convincing them he had magical powers when they met at mosque

An imam has been found guilty of raping women and girls as young as 12 after using his position as a faith leader at his east London mosque to convince them he had magical powers.

Abdul Halim Khan, 54, has been found guilty of twenty one counts of rape and sexual assault as well as child sexual offences against seven women and girls at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

The offences took place between 2004 and 2015, and three of his victims were young teenage girls at the time.

All seven were members of the local Muslim community, and Khan abused his position to convince them all to meet him in isolated places to carry out the sex attacks.

Khan would claim he needed to meet with the girls and women to prevent anything bad happening to them.

He then raped or abused them and claimed he had been possessed by a 'Jinn', or evil spirit, while doing so.

His victims were left too scared to tell friends or family for fear of him doing them harm via 'black magic', the CPS said.

Khan's actions were finally discovered in February 2018 when his youngest victim bravely told a teacher what had happened to her.

On Friday, Khan was convicted of nine counts of rape, four counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, five counts of rape of a child under 13 and one count of assault by penetration.

We've won over the Working Class vote base
The working class don't exist anymore. They're been squeezed by umchekwe and ahmed taking their factory jobs and middle-class lefty woke degenerates.

The 'working class vote' was for the same as it always has been; "stop the immigrants". Which reform have made pretty clear that they aren't doing. One scandal or slip of the tongue and the 'working class' will flood to Lowe.

You might have missed my question. Would you accept a Reform landslide if it meant Sharia law introduction?
