A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

My annoyance at the new adaptation of Wuthering Heights continues. I have a fondness for this book even though everybody in it is terrible, because reasons, and it’s been wrecked by the director.

I give you this article solely for the pictures and trailer, and the line, ‘sensually gutting a pig’ which made me snort over my breakfast cereal. Oh and for this screenshot of someone interfering with a fish, from the trailer.

‘Fall in love again and again.’ Mmmmm! Romantic!
And I’m laughing, but I’m also pissed off because this book is a work of towering genius and an English literary classic and emerald fennel has turned it into 50 shades of t’grey. You could certainly have a somewhat raunchy adaptation but at least make it make sense. And take out whatever’s going on with tha fish …

Wuthering Heights is one of literature's great romances. It is, not to make too much of a pun here, haunting.

And here I read:

Common in early 19th Century Yorkshire, as we know.

Lets not.

I suppose it might keep the rain off, but not terribly warm for wafting about up ont’moors.
It just looks SO bad. Not even so bad it’s good. Just bad.
At this point, the “adaptation” staffers are making me more angry than the characters of the original book (which I thought was impossible outside of murder and child abuse news). The entire story is full of unlikeable arseholes acting like unlikeable arseholes, but this sounds like a terrible attempt to make Wuthering Heights appeal to ‘ver kids. No doubt the producers etc have £ in their eyes envisioning hundreds of thousands of fans wanting recreations, trying to find the original home in Yorkshire, selling various branded tat vaguely linked to the show and all that stuff.

You’ll never make it Harry Potter, and you’ll never be our Queen JKR. Just another boring woman trying to be not like the other girls.

Why must we be subject to this shit? I’m tired of having everyone’s mad sexual fantasies paraded around in front of me.

Edit: @Sensitive Young Man is that a young Ozzy Osborne in that photo?

For all her ""freaky""ness and "towering erotic heights" there's no actual nudity in the film...
she described the project as "Wuthering Heights when I read it at 14", this bitch should have just worked out her animal finger fucking tendencies on AO3. ""Spicy"" lit and dog metaphor tumblr women have ruined female art

Labour mayor is found guilty of helping hide her son's phone after he raped a 15-year-old girl

A Labour mayor helped hide her son's phone after he raped a 15-year-old girl by blocking police officers from entering their home and giving him instructions in Urdu.

Naheed Ejaz, 61, refused to let officers in for over a minute and a half, giving 41-year-old Diwan Khan time to conceal the device, which is believed to have had a video of him sexually assaulting the teenager on it.

The former town mayor for Bracknell in Berkshire was convicted of perverting the course of justice, saying she let her 'mother's love' cloud her judgement.

From Guido - Children are writing VALENTINES CARDS to the 'asylum seekers'. Charlotte Gill reports that it is the NGO 'City of Sanctuary' under their 'Schools of Sanctuary' programme and this was active in Aug 2025.

Green councillor Anne Cross, for Heathfield and Mayfield on East Sussex County Council, boasted at a recent meeting:
“My grandchildren and I painted some cards – Valentine’s Cards – at the weekend which we are going to be presenting to the men in the camp in Crowborough as a welcome.”
So continues the tragicomic farce of the Green Party (led locally by deputy party leader Rachel Millward) attempting to deal with intense local anger at the installation of hundreds of male asylum seekers at a local training camp site.

I once got stuck with an absolute fucking wanker of a lecturer at uni who insisted on using trigger warnings for the most inane shit so I started trolling her by suggesting that as a former veteran who was shot and wounded the phrase trigger warning was in fact triggering in itself. I think she eventually settled on calling them content warnings instead.
Cheers dits.

This is horrific, and it’s not the first time children have been used as bait.
Sanctuary Cities are one of the most evil things I have ever seen. Not only does it mean they are (at least in the US) refusing to enforce the law, they're creating an enviroment where immigration becomes a point of identity and pride for the local government. Once that happens they won't care who's hurt so long as that idea of a Sanctuary City is maintained. Having fucking children send valentines cards to illegals or any kind of contact with them for that matter is an accident crime waiting to happen.

I can always count on the Farms to give me my daily dose of doomerism.

There were previous times - I will look later for the exact examples but children were used both letter writing, and in adverts and I think I remember in person too.

It's the Greens. They're (one of) the party(/ies) of cgild rape maximalism.
I will never, ever, forgive the Greens for covering up the Chanellor rape attic dungeon.

Here's some positivity for you. Ratcliffe's apology is a non-apology, and other businessmen are joining him. Labour MP Luke Myer was at the rape gang inquiry this morning. I got optimistic stickers for saying that there is a vibe shift and there absolutely is. As a side note, INEOS nonbio laundry detergent is great if you have allergies or young kids with sensitive skin, the dark green one smells like patchouli but the other fragrances are very mild and skin safe. The antibacterial gel also doesn't dry out skin.

The National Crime Agency has seemingly confirmed that Starmer KNEW about Epstein. Documents released under the Epstein Files Transparency Act show Britain's National Crime Agency was running a classified intelligence operation on Epstein's British connections — from inside the British Embassy in Washington, D.C.
1770906625504.png
→ Jan 2020: NCA begins classified Epstein operation from the British Embassy
→ Apr 2020: Starmer becomes Labour leader
→ Jul 2024: Starmer becomes PM
→ Dec 2024: Starmer appoints Mandelson as ambassador — to the embassy where the operation was running
→ Sep 2025: Starmer fires Mandelson
→ Jan 2026: Documents reveal what the government knew all along. Nearly five years of classified intelligence. And he sent Mandelson to the Washington D.C. building it was coming from.
Did Mandelson's vetting process IGNORE the NCA's investigation, or did they not ask for NCA information at all? Both answers are damning.

Oh and for this screenshot of someone interfering with a fish, from the trailer.
Is this a euphemism for fingering or are they setting up a vore scene?
Common in early 19th Century Yorkshire, as we know.
Back in ye olde days up norf the latex fetishists just covered themself in coal dust. Closest shit you could get back then.
Children are writing VALENTINES CARDS to the 'asylum seekers'.
Do people still put anthrax and shit in letters? I was going to say if we had to do this shit it'd be incredibly snide and taking the piss. Then I fucking look it up and according to the mail the kids (admittedly from the 2024 version) were fucking five year olds. Five year olds don't think about love or Valentine's day with other 5 year olds let alone fucking paedophilic politicians and foreign rapists. Five year olds love Shawn the Sheep and Thomas the Tank Engine, they don't even think that those feelings can apply to people outside their family much less actual strangers. I would trust someone convicted of child porn possession to look after a kid more than I would anyone who encouraged this shit. Is there literally a single politician that is not either trying to fuck kids, trying to get other people to fuck kids, or fine with being friends with either of the former? Parliament is just sounding like the formal version of reddit/roblox/discord/etc at this point. Can we get an update to the migrant hotel map that includes the houses of politicians so I know where to keep kids away from?

So the whole valentine's day cards to asylum seekers reminded me of that nonsense last year when they caught schools doing it. Out of curiosity I went back to find that the FACT CHECKERS had spoken and declared it a hoax.

What is the School of Sanctuary Scheme?

The School of Sanctuary scheme - which is supported by the Northern Ireland Executive - aims to support schools to become welcoming places for all children, including newcomer children.
A School of Sanctuary is one which provides significant additional support to pupils, including refugees and others.
The first in Northern Ireland was named in 2017, and over 40 have been awarded the status since then.
St John the Baptist College in Portadown recently became the first outside Belfast or Londonderry to achieve the accreditation.

What have Schools of Sanctuary in Northern Ireland told parents?

The principal of Integrated College, Glengormley, Ricky Massey, wrote to parents to state that the online claims were "simply not true".
In his letter, Mr Massey mentioned claims on social media that Schools of Sanctuary "are encouraging pupils to write letters or Valentine's cards to refugees or asylum seekers - including suggestions that this could involve 'unvetted men.'"
He said: "I want to reassure you in the strongest possible terms, this has never happened at Integrated College Glengormley."
He said the school had never been asked or instructed by any organisation to carry out such activities.
"This would never happen," he added.
Mr Massey said safeguarding and child protection was at the "heart of everything" they do.
"The welfare of our pupils is our first priority, and any activity in our school is subject to the highest safeguarding standards," he said.
"Please be assured - there is no cause for anxiety about your child's wellbeing in relation to these claims."

'Genuinely held concerns'

Taughmonagh Primary School in Belfast also sent a letter to parents of pupils, telling them that social media "information circulating in relation to our school is factually incorrect".
"We would ask for our school community's support in stopping the spread of misinformation online," the letter said.
The letter outlined how the school has stringent safeguarding processes and this allegation on the Facebook group is "contrary to our policies".
The Belfast DUP councillor Sarah Bunting criticised what she called "the spreading of these online rumours, made up and posted by faceless, nameless strangers".

What has the EA and School of Sanctuary said?

In a statement to BBC News NI, the EA said it was aware that some schools had been targeted online.
"We consider this information to be entirely inaccurate and condemn the spread of misinformation in the strongest terms," the statement said.
School of Sanctuary UK said it was "not directly involved in the delivery of specific activities in schools".
It said that while there had been "mention of a Valentine's Day welcome card initiative", where children wrote anonymised messages of welcome to people seeking safety, "we have full confidence that schools and teachers organise age-appropriate activities and follow rigorous safeguarding procedures to ensure every child's safety during such activities".
In an email to schools, School of Sanctuary UK said it s seeking "urgent legal advice" over the social media post and has encouraged any school that receives threats to report it to police.
Whole lot of weasel words there. Let's see School of Sanctuary's own statement.
We know that false and inflammatory material about our Schools of Sanctuary programme is circulating online. Contrary to what these dangerous misrepresentations claim, our programme promotes compassion, understanding, and safety.

Read this useful explainer

Whilst we are not directly involved in the delivery of activities in schools, we know that the activity in question, undertaken in a very small number of schools, did not involve children writing personal Valentine’s cards to adults in the asylum system. It was a simple act of welcome – pupils wrote short, anonymised messages to show support and solidarity. These were expressions such as “Welcome to our town” or “We hope you feel safe here.” The vast majority of these were displayed within the classroom, in a small number of cases, schools gave them to local refugee support groups. No personal information was shared, and the activity was age-appropriate, teacher-led, and in line with rigorous school safeguarding policies.

We take safeguarding extremely seriously and operate in line with all statutory guidance.

These incredibly dangerous misrepresentations of our work are putting schools and our team in danger. We are pursuing legal advice and are reporting all threats to the police.
Still weaseling. Luckily there is a "useful explainer"
The City of Sanctuary has called the claims made online "false and inflammatory", adding that they dangerously misrepresent school activities. The City of Sanctuary said it does not run activities within schools, however, it does provide resources which schools can utilise, this includes ideas for activities.
One of these activities - titled 'Show Your Heart for Refugees This Valentine’s Day' - suggests schools "share a message of kindness and compassion" by creating a "twist on a Valentine’s Day card".
The creations are asked to feature an orange heart symbol, signifying solidarity with people seeking safety. Staff, children and parents have the option to write anonymised messages of welcome and kindness on the creations, such as "Welcome to our town" or "We hope you feel safe here".

The creations can then be displayed in a public place in school, somewhere else in the community, or passed to a local refugee organisation, if they agree to share them with people seeking safety.
The City of Sanctuary said the activity being misrepresented - carried out in a small number of schools across the UK - did not involve children writing personal Valentine's cards or love letters to adults seeking asylum. It is believed that the schools which took part in the activity are not in the North East.
So it's accurate then. The fact that it's not specifically to any individuals does not cover the fact that it is valentine day themed, it is done by children for refugees, it is potentially given to refugees directly. That it is instead intended as manipulative propaganda to be displayed publicly is actually more nauseating but the attempt to lie their way out of what they did is also pretty repellent.

I'm seeing youtube channels of people in London recording themselves similarly to the "salaryman in Japan/China/Korea shows his miserable worklife" genre of youtube.
