A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Question:

Britcuck guberment says that 16 year olds can't be trusted to use social media appropriatly, can't be trusted to use knives or guns responsibly, can't be trusted to eat junk food in appropriatte amounts and can't decide on medical procedures for themselves right? They're just too young, too naive to be trusted with those choices?

But they do want them to be able to vote in national elections?

Well yah I get that bit. I always assume anything put forward by any politician is self-serving. Even more when it's a non-American politician.

The alternative is armed insurrection. There's no other party, political figure or entity that says "This is fucking retarded?" Except in Great Yarmouth where he's polling to win completely.
 
I just left work for the morning and it's absolutely Baltic out there. Make sure you all stay wrapped up warm. Not too icy here but it's completely clear skies which isn't helping it warm up at all.

Owen Jones and Diane Abbot went out their to “monitor” the elections and say how free and fair they were.

If you don’t know how important this is to the British left you haven’t been paying attention.

I found the SNPs constant harping on, prior to the 2014 independence referendum, that Scotland could be "just like Venezuela!!" if people voted for it, hilarious.

Why would you want to be anything like that hole is past me. Sure, it's an improvement on, say, Haiti, but that's like saying the clap is better than terminal arse cancer.

They absolutely have. Donald Dewar wasn't my cup of Scottish Blend tea, politically speaking,but the chap would be ashamed at what Holyrood has become.

The only thing they get really right in Scotland is NHS Dentistry. Even the Education system, once lauded as world class, has gone to pot since the introduction of National Fives. "Free" university (for the Scottish and Welsh,but fuck the English) is a disaster.

Also anyone with Leave to Remain, asylum seekers, EU nationals with pre settled status, basically any foreigner who can fill out a form is getting “free” university education in Scotland and it’s freezing out more qualified Scottish students and all I can say is you get what you vote for.

It’s insane how hard you have to search to find out how hard Scottish government policy is fucking over Scotland is its all stuff that neoliberals are pretending really hard works.

There’s no real journalism in Scotland unless a Telegraph journalist gets lost are spends a few days up there.

Absolutely. Factor in how desperate they are to define themselves by their hate of England and their belief it's "a special place" (just like Canadians with the USA) and it's a recipe for disaster.

They're so desperate for that that they're filling this cities with shitskins and mystery meat foreigners in a bid to be "tolerant".

I work in Scotland a lot and it’s pretty amazing how they all keep two sets of books in their heads.

They’ll spout neoliberal shit out loud in the office but after a pint in a dark corner of a pub they sound more extreme than a heterosexual version of Homeland.

Celtic on the streets, Rangers in the sheets.

Officer committed misconduct over mushroom foraging report

It's all a bit autistic, but the long and the short of it is that a police officer tried to fit a woman up for picking mushrooms in the wrong place*, never actually spoke to her, forged documents, and then lied about the whole thing and recorded her as a criminal on the Leicestershire police database. Police officer would have been sacked for it if he hadn't already resigned.

In an unrelated note, bacon tastes best when fried until crispy.

*"sites of special scientific interest" can have restrictions on them to prevent disturbing the local environment.

I'm guessing "policeman saw photo of woman he wanted to fuck, decided to find excuse to visit her, found out she had a husband, decided to destroy her life in incel rage."

This is shockingly common. I remember a women who said she went out on a date a few times with a police officer then ended it. Her car keep getting pulled over and she didn't think anything about it. Then she started applying for jobs that required security clearance them fail it despite having a spotless record. Turns out the guy had put comments on her record, and this was pre-non crime hate crime days, that were getting flagged during the checks.

The police office was done for misconduct but despite the the Chief Constable refused to remove them from her record. She had to kick up a fuss in the press to get them removed.

Ladies, be very careful around policemen.
