A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Asked if he condemned the US action, as a number of other UK politicians have, he told reporters he wanted to "establish facts" and speak to Trump first so that he could "tell him what to say and what he should think about the situation".

There's a lot of noise from people who couldn’t find Venezuela on a map yesterday. I'm more interested in what Venezuelans risking their lives for democracy have to say.
This is clearly a fast-moving and extremely serious situation. I am not going to rush to judgement or speculate on incomplete reports.
The UK’s responsibility is to understand the facts, assess where our national interest lies and consider the consequences for Venezuela’s people and for regional and global stability.
It is not for us to second guess from afar the motives and evidence behind these events. Let’s hear what President Trump has to say shortly. I will also be watching closely what is said by Venezuela’s democratic opposition.

I'm sure Trump will care either way. I'm sure of all people he really values Keir's opinion. Have we considered how my dog feels about the situation too? I think Trump would also care about her very much. I can go ask a couple random people on the streets too if he wants.

This is shockingly common. I remember a women who said she went out on a date a few times with a police officer then ended it. Her car keep getting pulled over and she didn't think anything about it. Then she started applying for jobs that required security clearance them fail it despite having a spotless record. Turns out the guy had put comments on her record, and this was pre-non crime hate crime days, that were getting flagged during the checks.

The police office was done for misconduct but despite the the Chief Constable refused to remove them from her record. She had to kick up a fuss in the press to get them removed.

Anyone with access to System One for your health care records, too. I have an ex, a male Nurse who accessed my private medical records and used information from that to behave in a controlling and coercive manner to me.

That said,I should have run a fucking mile when I realized he was a male Nurse. They're a special kind of mental and nurses in general are batshit.

I'm really sorry to hear that. Also, being in the NHS I imagined when you did raise it they all closed ranks and protected the bastard?

Take working in the NHS and not looking to leave for the private sector as a big red flag, ladies and gents.

The NHS in Wales are extremely vindictive - a neighbour of mine has been told that she 'absolutely will not' get knee surgery which was promised to her due to the fact that her son complained about the way that she had been mistreated.

He was visited by the Police on New Year's Eve after reports of him 'violently assaulting' a member of staff, despite him being nowhere near the Hospital and at least five people can vouch that he was at home for most of the day and only went out to shop locally and visit a friend a few streets away.

It's a bit trickier than that. A bunch of Labour MPs have immediately begun a banshee like shrieking over this because their only understanding is that everything that Trump does is evil/people are screaming on social media so they should be to. Or at least their PR teams have.

What Keir should be doing is having his underlings immediately call the MPs directly, instruct them to read these articles, delete their comments and keep their mouths shut.


Unfortunately because his position is so weak he can't. So instead the back benchers are riling themselves up and creating a fictional reality where Trump kidnapped the modern Che Guvere because "fascism" and spamming that all over social media. By Monday half of Labour will have outed themselves (again) as idiots who have zero understanding of geopolitics and also unable to do five minutes of internet research before slamming out a post on social media.

Nigel doesn't want congratulate Trump cause he'll get arrested for it.

He needs to stop being a pussy and side with Trump. If Nigel was arrested for "hate speech" that would only make him more popular. Bongs have had enough with having no free speech, just to appease foreigners who view them as genocidal colonisers.

Leftists simping for a murderous, corrupt dictator cause they hate the orange man will only make them look worse. The majority of Venezuelans are celebrating, and good for them.
 
So lads it's a little nippy at the moment but I've found this quality lifehack for keeping warm. It's called a thermostat and every house seems to have one, all you have to do is turn it up when it's cold and the house gets warm. No idea why everyone isn't just doing that.

Nigel does side with Trump, but he has to walk a difficult tightrope at present considering that a) the establishment fear him becoming PM before 2029 and b) it would be easy pickings for Starmer and the MSM to go 'OMG, FARAGE IS HITLER, WE MUST BE SAFE REEEE!'

If they can't arrest him, they'll try to 'Charlie Kirk' him which will arguably result in Reform UK having an easier ride into office because people (even those who are against Brexit) will think 'hold up, we do not do these sort of things here in the UK - we don't execute people just because they disagree with us.'

It's a great day for Venezuela, congratulations to them.

One of my favourite songs has a guy with a gruff voice singing about when he was a little nipper and I can never not hear it as it being when he was a little nigger and it makes me chuckle every time I hear it. Though it's hard to chuckle after thinking about the word chuckle, rip big baz.
