A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I thought they had knocked that sort of thing on the head after the whole duck moat thing.

Depends how you define expenses. I paid off my mortgage in three years when I took a job that meant working away from home at various locations across the country.

Vehicle and all fuel supplied
Hotel bill paid up to $xxx per night
$xx evening meal allowance
$xx day meal allowance (if worked over 8 hours)
No unnecessary expenses allowed, (so the maintenance of my moat had to be paid for by myself), not that they would have been refunded due the accountants being the bosses wife and son.

Work out how much you spend per working week (exclude weekends) on groceries, getting to and from work, gas, electricity and water bills, and you can save a chunk of money. Enough to at least make a dent in your mortgage outstanding figure.

Everything goes on expenses. Might not be stupid fripperies but it's absolutely shit they should be paying for themselves and in them not paying for it, they're shielding themselves from the reality of actual life nearly all people have to face.

If I am working away from home on the companies request, then I should be house, fed and watered. Why should I have expected any more that that. If I was running the business, its only theses items I would cover for my staff.

It'll be carbon tax
Green new deal would be axed, therefore no need.

* Axe the BBC Licence Fee (£165 per household)
* Scrap the Green new deal (Billions saved)
* Axe our debts (Billions saved)

A contact of mine (no names/pack drill) recently was invited to dinner with former PM Gordon Brown and asked if, globally, debts could be cancelled post Covid.

His response was quite positive:

'In terms of actual cancellation, it's certainly feasible, but it depends upon leaders globally agreeing to this and the problem is would Trump back it if the EU were for it or vice versa.

'There would need to be safeguards put in place and agreements made - the IMF would possibly have to act as arbiters in such an instance - but it's not a bad idea, whether or not our Prime Minister and other leaders would necessarily agree to it is, of course, a matter for them.'

Let's not forget that as bad a PM as he was, he did get Africa's debts cancelled, so he knows how to do it.

I don't trust them with it. Global debt cancellation will meant they immediate start racking up new debt to pay for things. Top of the list: slavery reparations.

Some good news is that the prat who threatened our Nigel is now starting a five year sentence.
The fact that they're protecting nige instead of letting people say whatever the fuck is idk, concerning? Why is the establishment that should hate this 'outsider' protecting him when it's perfectly happy to let people say the exact same things to other public figures who say the same sorts of opinions, unless it knows that he is not a real threat and his opinions aren't genuine?

Isn't most of Africa's debt to china for all those totally valuable and worthwhile mega roads they're building? Or was the ccp happy just taking ownership of half the country as settlement? Like what the fuck does Africa even get in debt over? Building more water pumps so that they can decay or be ripped up to sell for scrap?

Absolutely agreed. Food, accomodation, and minor necessary expenses like small toiletry items? Completely agree they should be covered.

Where I draw the line with MPs is funding entire homes in London for them, with bills and council tax. We need to build a large student digs style accomodation block for them to live in when in Parliament. Studio flats or similar with space to work, sleep and cook for themselves. Nothing more. If such accomodation is good enough for University students then it's good enough for MPs.

Ditto them having normal living costs like dental care covered. If they don't have to cough for it out of pocket how the hell can they possibly understand the struggle for normal people?

The CCP probably wants the right to the resources of the continent - from coffee to diamonds and everything in between. Cancel debts and then take whatever they want.

@teriyakiburns

If I was Nigel, I'd say 'Okay, £1000 per person as reparations or to apologise for what we put you through during Covid - but only if we are elected to govern.'

Write it off as a debt, and see Lenny Henry openly weep as his fellow blacks all join the Reform UK express.

This might be genuinely the worst British insult anyone has ever said. Turkey Twizzlers tasted great and that FAS looking bellend took them away from us all.

Remember a few years ago UNICEF calculated it'd take like 6 billion to eradicate world hunger and Musk actually started discussions with them before pulling out and buying Twitter instead. There's absolutely NO way 6 billion would eradicate hunger forever, it'd simply be able to feed everyone living today for a few years before the next generation of kids are born and now the world hunger problem has tripled or quadrupled, plus that money only ever works to begin with if you assume that every single shithole country isn't going to scoop a few million here and there to disappear into a black hole.

It's false economy to fund places which can't or won't look after themselves.

Christopher Hitchens made the point many years ago that, if women ran African countries, things would improve as Communist Male leaders will never share resources with the poor.

Also, if we actually did have 'Wakanada' and Black nations somehow suddenly took off economically, then the West would have to compete against them for commerce and industry - if things can be made cheaper and better in Africa, and their people can earn a good or fair wage, then the West will struggle.

As a football analogy, let's call Manchester United 'The West' and Chelsea 'Africa'. Chelsea in the 2000s only grew because of Roman Abramovich's investment and they superseded Manchester United as a result - now, should Russia/China or whoever invest in Africa and they start to outdo us then wouldn't that impact on us if we cannot compete with them?

TLDR - If we have to win, in the West, somebody else has to lose.

Also, that WaterAid advert about kids drinking filthy water has been debunked as false.

Whenever Mike Craven-Todd appears on a TV and says: 'I've filmed children in the Third World...' I reply with 'and you should be on the sex offenders list for doing so!'

The ccp pitches massive overblown infrastructure projects, specifically this idea to connect all of Africa by one super road that also connects to arabia. They send off some of their workers and materials on the agreement that the ccp will put in half the money and will take a cut of the profits. And because it's fucking Africa none of these countries actually have the ability to pay their share, so they get in debt over it. When the ccp asks where the fuck the money is the country says there is none. So the ccp says it's ok, we can't stop now otherwise my investment will be wasted, so the ccp offers to pay for the rest of the construction but obviously that's going to cost the ccp, so they demand the African country pay for it another way. The ccp then demands to either be given ownership or a very long exclusivity deal to specifically ports, a fair few important ports are now owned by China as a result. Or they will ask for land and resources. Basically China is attempting to gain ownership of an entire continent's infrastructure, not only the ports but also that the roads and rail itself would be at least partly Chinese and they'll also accept ownership of power networks and such in settlements. And because all of these countries are ran by fucking retards they all fall for this idea that somehow spending more money than the entire gdp of the country in a century to connect ngajwbidi to tukakachanwa will somehow boost tourism to these massively famous places and that people will simply love just driving along this road and paying tolls simply because it's a nice road and they enjoy going from 100 population village to 100 population village.

Also Hungary fell for the debt trap too and a lot of eu money goes to china to pay off a road that almost no one uses because it is reliant on the other countries around Hungary also signing the same infrastructure deals that none of them were interested in let alone after seeing how manipulative it was. So instead there's this fucking massive road in Hungary that is about as useful as a bridge linking the Shetland islands together. And literally all of the information about the entire bri you will ever see is all chinese propaganda.

Some companies are really bad with expenses now and get sniffy about drinks with meals, then wonder why people stop travelling for them and go to work elsewhere.

The sad thing is once one African country becomes semi-stable and starts to prosper rebels from the surrounding nations start raiding it and destabilising it.

It’s almost like they’re all 70 IQ without the ability to forward plan or know how they’d feel if they never had breakfast or something.
Charities don't want to solve the problems they champion. They'd all be out of a job if they did.
Don’t get me started on the charity sector. How anyone who works in it can sleep at night is anyone’s guess.

Except a few shining examples.

I have a lot of time for a local cat charity, and for one specific branch of women's aid, for personal reasons.

Fuck the British Heart Foundation though. Rude staff in my local shop to the point I cancelled donating white goods when I moved recently. Also cancer research. This may be the result of far too much weed on my part several years back but I genuinely believe that they have the cure for cancer already, or at least can definitively pinpoint the cause but are holding back because they'd lose cash.

To quote a great man, "big pharma don't wanna cure you, dog, cos every person that is cured is a customer lost".

I've just been for a pint with a mate of mine.
50'ish, was made redundant about a year ago from a mid level engineering job.

Spends 2 hours a day dedicated to putting in applications, I've passed good opportunities to him, but nothing comes of it. I know the guy, it is not because he is not willing or capable, but the offers dont line up with reality.

He's now being investigated by DWP and being required to expose all his banking and financial transactions.

Digital ID is here.

I would, were it me, have a nervous breakdown. Go to my GP, tell them I'm having a total meltdown, can't cope, can't cook, can't look after myself, can't go out, too anxious, all of it, and go down route of claiming PIP for that.

That was absolutely my biggest nightmare when I was unemployed last year. Being sanctioned for not "doing enough" to find a job (though I'd argue 2 hours a day is a paltry amount. I was doing a solid 7 hours. Applying, tittivating with my CV, doing cover letters, researching companies I was applying for. 2 hours is nothing).

If he's told the Job Center he's doing 2 hours a day then I guarantee that is why he's being investigated.

I appreciate your situation Bongo, I can only talk to what I know.

This guy wants to earn, but he is over qualified or underqualifed or not the correct "fit".

Thankfully he doesn't have a family to support, but listening to how he talks he is fairly beaten down at this point.

He needs to start lying to cover his arse. I don't advocate lying as a rule but I guarantee that the job centre wants you to treat looking for a job as a full time job in itself.

I'd also recommend them getting in touch with their MP if possible. Also for him to start proactively getting feedback on applications. If one comes back as having even a whiff of ageism then good, he can use it to his advantage.

The system is a game and you have to play within their rules which sucks a barrel of dick.
