A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I can't even blame him, I'd be pissed off too if some dumb cunt tried something like that before I was ready. I do hope Corbyn still goes through with it though but only because it'd further divide the vote amongst left-wingers.
He won't, he would crawl on broken glass to get back into Labour if he could so all they need to do is the day before launch have a random conversation with him that keeps his mindset on track for being available as a Labour left voice/pundit to the news and rejoining Labour in 2030 when everyone just sees him as being a put out to pasture backbencher.

I don't know what to make of this one.

I can add context - this is a ward that was contested in May, so the voters know which parties can actually win and the negative tactical voters can pick their poison accordingly. The Reform winner in May quit after 8 days, which won't have endeared the party to the voters. The Tories threw the kitchen sink at this by-election, even getting Badenoch to campaign in the ward on Wednesday.

All of those things put together gives the result you see.

The pound has tanked recently due to the instability of the government and yet not a peep about it in the press. Why is it only an issue when the Tories are running things?

Woman cries, pound plummets. Even when Reeves is not trying to ruin shit she manages to ruin things. It's honestly impressive.

It's gone weirdly quiet. I think most of the media are afraid it'll look like they're bullying her. A few articles came out prying into the "personal issue" excuse, but Downing Street have refused to comment.

Paying my Corporation Tax next month is going to feel extra awful this year knowing that the money is going to these clowns.

The media feels like they're in an uncomfortable position right now. On one hand, Labour are absolutely getting their shit pushed in and are floundering like nothing ever seen before, on the other hand the Tories aren't anywhere in contention, so if Labour get fucked to the point of needing to call an election then Reform get in. The media have no direct rapport with Reform like they have with the Tories or Labour so they're being ultra cautious, they don't want to support a party that turns the knives towards the media.

Notice how all Reform news seemed to drop off the face of the earth after the polls started coming in that they'd win a majority. It's like the media were putting petrol on the fire to teach Labour a lesson but chickened out the moment they realised that this wasn't just a see-saw dip that'd see the Tories get back into power, but the total destruction of the two party system.

If the Conservatives were the direct opposition, the front page of the Guardian would be "Starmer Out".

Still good numbers for Reform and if the Tories are the preferred choice then so be it.

Newark is Jenrick's seat in Parliament, IIRC, and a lot of rural Tories are pretty similar to Reform UK.

I'm more interested in Labour and Lib Dems sliding, and the Greens making a slight improvement.

The Greens are doing well at local level and, if they axe Denayer and get Ramsay in as leader, then they could become Reform UK's main opposition instead of the Lib Dems who are just treading water under Davey and not really making much of a significant impact in Parliament.

Very telling.

Don't forget that the BBC and the Government have to have each others 'backs' as the futures of both depend upon each other.

The MSM will run cover for Labour as it's in their best interests to do so.

However, even they can't control the narrative nor any leaks which may/may not come out.

Beware of the 'Unknown Unknowns' as Donald Rumsfeld would have described them.

The MSM, as you rightly say, have no rapport with Reform UK and also no respect for them, but this is a bonus for Reform UK as when the next GE is announced and purdah is called they can refuse to have anything to do with the BBC - 'we won't be platformed by Hamas and Hezbollah supporters, and we will axe them on day one of taking charge.'

That will scare the hell out of them - their power being curtailed indefinitely is their death knell, and the funny thing is most people wouldn't care if the BBC went; the Hard Left see them as 'Jew loving sycophants' and the Far Right see them as 'paedophilia enablers'. Most youngsters today (under 25s) have never watched a BBC programme and stream stuff from Netflix and Amazon or even YouTube.

With the way they went after Truss, regardless of what she did or didn't do, to not go after Reeves the same just shines a spotlight onto the bias of the media.

Maybe the emergence of an official "Gaza party", or even better "Muslim party", with actual MPs in parliament will help to wake some people up over how fucked the country has got. I can only see this helping Reform tbh. Cheers Jez!

How is this guy still stepping on rakes and helping out the right after all these years? I thought he was done after handing the Tories a majority in 2019, but he's still at it!?

Interesting news out of the trial of the two pakis who got in a fight with the plod at Manchester Airport. Remember when they initially claimed they dindu nuffin? Turns out they in fact did do something, even before the fight with the cops:

A brawl filmed at Manchester Airport last summer followed an attack on a member of the public at Starbucks, a jury has heard.

Brothers Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, 20, and Muhammad Amaad, 26, are said to have used a "high level of violence" in assaulting three police officers in Terminal 2 on 23 July last year.

Police were at the airport responding to an earlier incident at the Starbucks cafe where Mr Amaaz headbutted a man and punched him, Liverpool Crown Court heard. Both brothers, from Rochdale, Greater Manchester, deny the allegations.

I for one am shocked, just shocked, that violent little shits turn out to have done violent little shit things repeatedly.

I saw that earlier. Not gonna lie it gave me an actual good chuckle.

Assuming Niggel "We can't stop the boats" farage doesn't rug pull and let a paki run the party when he steps aside.

Notice how the conversation is now on boat people and illegal migrants, and no party is now talking about the bajillion 'legals' who have come in over the past decade.

All so tiresome etc.

We went out for tea with his nibs family a few weeks ago and I inadvertently outed myself. A family member said they had "no problem with the ones who come here and work hard", to which I replied, we don't need them. We've plenty of our own,and we need to look at why people don't want to work minimum wage jobs as prioritize employing the native population first.

I cannot understand why people find that so unpalatable or hard to fathom.

The only people coming here to work should be truly exceptional, with a proven track record in their career.

In other news, a puff piece on the Daily Fail showed French Police slashing and deflating a small boat setting off. Not a child or woman to be seen on the craft. Quelle Surprise.
