A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Both of the men charged over setting fire to Starmer's property are Ukrainians in their early 20s who both have profiles on 'modelling'\acting websites.

It's incredibly likely that since these two guys were hustling for jobs in "modelling", they could have been easily paid for services for sex and or, espionage if that desperate. We'll never know the full story behind this because if it is indeed Ukrainians (who were not a false flag by Russia), it won't be mainstream news for obvious reasons. If they were indeed sex workers for Keir or other politicians, that also wouldn't be mainstream news.

So all we have is our imagination and conspiracies, I'd rather not think about Keir and his fuck buddies.

BBC have stated that at least the first person arrested is Ukrainian and confirmed the name. They've been unsurprisingly quiet on any allegations of escort work.

However, to join this up on the theme of George Galloway, he's happy to spread the rumours.

I also don't see any reason to suspect a false flag from Russia. For one, Russia is winning whether the UK wants it or not. In the bizarre and horrifying off-chance the UK entered the war more directly, this wouldn't stop Russia. It would just push Russia to take a faster approach to their advance. So absent the need to materially influence Britain there's only the PR side. Which again, is slowly turning in Russia's favour anyway as more and more people think we shouldn't be involving ourselves and even the US president starting to get bored with his country's involvement. So again, it would just be a foolish risk when you're already going in the right direction. And it wouldn't have any effect on influencing the actual politicians who aren't basing their actions on stuff like this but on investments and hoped for returns from the conflict.

In short, it would be a big risk for Russia for no meaningful return.

I'm not a LARPer, just a realist, but peaceful resistance has failed. We are not Ghandi, and we aren't India (just yet).

The only way the governments will listen and the only way to enact true change is to get our hands dirty. Britain has done it time and time before and if it wants change it must happen again. This is the grim reality of politics and life. Violence is a last option, but it is still an option.

"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible, make violent revolution inevitable" - JFK.
Every day is just fighting the urge to fed post for me now.

That is one ugly guy. Why do gays pay for it BTW? They can just go down to a gay bar and strike up a conversation with another random if the want to bum someone.

Found this dude on companies house. This is a construction company. Looks like he does really have Romanian papers. I bet it was a fake passport or something. I’m guessing the other director is a brother or something.

Not if you're the Prime Minister you can't!

Though this could easily be more to do with the arsonist's nationality than any alleged career choices. As many people fled into Russia as into the West. It was a civil war for eight years before Russia decided to cross the border and join in on one side of it so he could just as easily be one of the Ukranians who is more pro-Russia. Or he could be just as angry even if not given that the West backed the coup which kicked all this off and that Boris Johnson sabotaged an early peace deal which seemed to have a passable chance of going through. The West brought war to his country. He very likely has lost either friends or relatives in the conflict. Kier Starmer comes on TV with the usual platitudes I could see that setting someone off.

Though the fact two more people have been arrested now suggests it might be more than that. Honestly, who knows at this point. There are so many possible reasons someone might set fire to Kier Starmer's house. They could even just find him incredibly annoying...

Most, if not all people who pay for gay sex are either extremely ashamed men in the closet or wealthy, powerful men who (are also ashamed) have to keep it on the down-low.

Most men just use apps or indeed, go to a bar/club. Also, to think Russia is not actively conducting espionage in the UK and around Europe is incredibly naive; we also do it. All countries do it, Russia is much more aggressive, "in your face" with it though.

R8 me l8, m8, I should have posted this a day or two ago when Eurovision chat was happening.
I did manage to record my favourite moment from Saturday night.

What are those lyrics to act #11...?

It's not just Starmer's house. It's his car and the 'other' property, where the link to Starmer has not been revealed (why not?). Clearly, those responsible for the arson know a lot of personal information about Starmer, more than you might be able to find using Google. The question then is where did the info come from? Did they find out as rentboys or were they recruited by foreign spooks to intimidate?

Greggs will move its self-serve food and drinks to behind the counter to stamp out shoplifting at the High Street bakery.
The company is trialling the measure at a handful of stores which, it said, are "exposed to higher levels of anti-social behaviour".
These include Whitechapel in east London which is one of five shops that will try out the new policy - the others are in Peckham and Ilford.
It is not expected that the change will be implemented across all Greggs' 2,600 bakeries in the UK, but it may be rolled out to sites where there are high levels of theft.
In 2024, shoplifting offences recorded by the police rose by 20% to 516,971, according the Office for National Statistics.
But the number of thefts recorded by retailers was far higher - for the year to last September shops saw a 3.7 million rise to 20.4 million, the British Retail Consortium (BRC) said.
Greggs said customers can expect to see its full range behind its counters but added: "The safety of our colleagues and customers remains our number one priority."
Some retailers, including supermarkets, have reported being targeted by organised gangs who wear bluetooth headsets to communicate with each other and set off alarms in stores to create a distraction allowing their fellow shoplifters to escape.
Andy Higginson, chair of sportswear and trainer retailer JD Sports and the BRC, recently told the BBC that some see shoplifting as a "way of life", allowing them to trade or sell what they have stolen.
"There is an element of society that is starting to take stealing from stores as a way of life and that needs to be stopped," he said.

This is how you know the country is going to the dogs, when even Greggs isn't safe.
