A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Reparations? With what money? We punt the out of work to the curb on £835 a month to live off if they live alone and have no kids and they want to cut that figure ever further, citing 404: money not found as the reason. Apparently we have a billions worth black hole.

Non- whites should not be allowed to hold public office of any kind. Just look at what they're actively doing to the native population and ask yourselves: would we consider this acceptable in a other country? Of course we wouldn't.

We are just doing everything we can to piss everyone off aren't we? Apple would sooner leave the UK then give them access to this sort of power. Not only does it give them free reign to go through quite literally everyone's files across the globe but it also creates a major security risk for Apple as if anyone is able to hack into a system which hosts or has access to this backdoor, they have access to everything Apple has on file. A data breach of that scale would be close to company ending.

Now would Apple be willing to pull it's operations from the UK is the question? Or would we see other countries get involved with this?

Same. I don’t understand how the Tories are snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. All Kemi has to do is stand up and start chanting “ausländer raus!” whilst the Guardian calls here a coconut and she’s destroyed Reform and got a landslide victory. Instead she’s trying to be Labour-lite and trying to appeal to the weird cosmopolitans who will never vote Labour.

Who ever is advising her needs sacked and if they don’t then Reform will continue to get my vote no matter what utter clown shoes they can be.

Fucking with US tech companies right now is retarded, even one as faggy as Apple. I’m guessing they’re going after the one that hasn’t publicly or semi-publicly bent the knee to Trump will set a precedent with the other tech companies. This is a fast way to get hit by tariffs.

Just give it to US intelligence so they can give it back to us legally and secret if you really need it. That’s the game the Yanks play to get around various constitutional issues,
 
"Reparations" could only ever be theoretically based and not utter pish if instead of socializing the losses of private action (the state has already paid it's collective dues in the form of the original buyout + West Africa Squadron) you take the market approach and go after the entities who actually did the wrongdoing, you know, slaveship owners/plantation proprietors and the like. It's not like there's any lack of paperwork records to track legal corporate heirs of the fruits of misery if businesses can be people they can be liable for historic debts to.
But that'd no doubt target the wrong sort of people so it'll never happen.

It's all downstream from what you are, and what she is, is not English, Scottish, Irish, Welsh, or European. She's a ethnic stranger that likes most of what the UK is, in the same way that I liked a lot of what Japan was when I visited, or Turkey when I was there. Maybe - and this is a big one - she marries a white man, and in 10 generations they all marry white people, she might be one of those things. But she's literally a foreigner in a position of power, with no real grounding in this nation. A nation is it's people, and it's people are it's heart. You can't just dump in something else and expect it to really become part of that nation.

On another note; I've had to move down souf, close to London (Mordor), and I have a question to the souf'eners in thread: Why are the roads so fucked, and yet always being worked on? They were fixing a part of the road I needed to use to get to work - or take a 20 minute diversion - and it has a pothole big enough to swallow my wheel in it. The works took a month and a half, and afterwards the pothole was still there. What are my road taxes paying for, if not to fix the gaping maws that destroy my suspension? Didn't get this shit in Yorkshire I'll tell you hwhat.

I don't know how many times I have to explain, that this 'Blacks can be english!' shit is gay and wrong. But clearly once more is required. Unless you yourself are a black, then just assume I've repeatedly called you slurs. You're not a right wing individual, you're just a leftist that misses the the 00's. She's not English, anymore than by being born in Beijing, you'd be Chinese. If all the actual English get replaced in the UK, then it's not the UK anymore, it's something new.
