A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Starmer can't remove Rayner as Deputy, but in theory he could strip her of every significant responsibility she has within the government - see Prescott. Deputy leader, deputy PM, but no real power. Harman was similar as Brown's deputy although she did manage to ram through the Equality Act.

'In theory', because he tried doing that after the 2021 local elections and ended up being bullied into giving Big Ange more power than she had before. I have no doubt that she would putsch him outright if he tried that again.

• China and India kill baby girls because they're not worth as much as men when it comes to earning power.
• In Hollywood, women make more money than men, easier than men (sex symbols etc).
• When the theory that @Chunky Salsa mentioned first leaked, a lot of celebs were 'suspected' to be men. Shortly after, the trans movement started.
• Plastic surgery, only affordable by bimbos in the 70's+80's, hit peak for plebs in the 90s, with shows like nip/tuck making it popular.
• Plastic surgery practiced on plebs helped make it better for celebs, which improved the techniques for the plebs, which helped make it better for celebs...

Taylor swift is the most manufactured 'woman' in pop history. Yet 'she' has classic tranny physiognomy; wide shoulders, no tits, no arse, big hands, big feet, tall.

Subject access request (might be called something else) but wait a few weeks so there's internal emails laughing at your first requests

Pay it right now. Don’t fuck with them over council tax. They will send the smallest amount to the bailiffs and you’ll be hit with another charge.

They‘re worse than gangsters when it comes to council tax.

Next year make manual payment and just pay random tiny amounts so they have to keep recalculating your monthly payments and writing to you.

Put it in the bin, it's a scam.

No letter that threatens to send bailiffs over four quid is real, or worth reading.

If you're really unsure, phone your local council and/or report it as SPAM. Don't fall for fraud.

If you want to fuck with them that badly buy the cheapest and smallest writing pad possible and send out FOI requests for the most pointless shit you can think of, for example how many letters does the council issue each year etc. Also buy the cheapest oversized envelopes you can find and send these FOI using incorrect postage stamps for the envelope size.
Make sure these letters are sent via post box as well. The post office will hold onto your letters until the council pays the difference in postage which they will have to do. The cost to you compared to the council will have to pay in return is massive due to the man power difference. Be the most petty, vindictive, autistic mother fucker possible. Send these weekly and keep track of what you send because they'll fuck up eventually and an FOI will be late so you can lodge a complaint in which they will have to spend more money addressing.
The best part is the council can't do anything about it because you're well within your rights to make these requests of your local authority and they're obliged to answer each one.

From experience working in council tax a few years back:

It's almost certainly a legit system generated letter for some stupid reason like your liability changed for one day. They legally have to send the letter to you with all possible recovery action advised, but they will not take action below a certain threshold (from memory this is maybe £20?). They will tell you a bill was issued before the seven day warning and the fact you didn't receive it is not their problem ('proof of postage is proof of delivery').

A seven day letter means you have been summonsed, I would first be asking for a copy of the summons notice.

I wouldn't bother trying to annoy them for a few reasons. They don't care, you will spend more of your own time than it's worth, and there's probably a valid reason for this charge cropping up, however stupid. I would figure out the reason before kicking up dust.

If you still want to fuck around I believe contacting your councillor is probably the most inconvenient for them. Alternatively, just keep hassling them about sweeping streets, clearing drains, flytipping and all the other things they're supposed to do for your money.
