A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I can't find that video posted in one of these threads where the woman talks about how Britain is falling apart; can you please link to it?

I still wished Liz got a full term honestly she was bat shit but she took risks that would have bore fruit
What she proposed wasn't actually that zany, it just didn't fit in with our increasingly argentine-style public sector worship (Pre Milei of course).

I remain convinced Kemi got in for only two reasons.

1. She's well integrated with the World Economic Forum just like Sunak and Kier.

2. She's black and both of her parents are migrants. It's not impossible, but it is still much harder for the very white Kier, Angela and Rachel to call her a racist/misogynist/anti-migrant than the other candidates. The other leadership candidates would have been gutpunched for being white supremacists at this point otherwise.

Might be less pressing now that Kier looks like a twat, but right at the start whatever he and his gang said would have had much more weight.

It's definitely coming, and it's theft. It's the cleanest cut case of theft that the government will commit, and they are 100% going to do it. The pension is something that we are obliged to pay into, the government takes our money, and then they keep it for us with the assurance that we get it back when we retire because we have paid into it our entire lives. Means testing it, is quite literally just naked wealth transfer. Anyone that argues for it, is directly arguing for stealing from the most vulnerable workers in our society who have no recourse against the thieves except violence. Which I actually think they should do if it goes through.

The groundwork has been laid, fren. Just look at all of those saying "boomers have enough money, they should lose their pension". "boomers should die" etc.

Hell, look at this thread where I sperg out on a poster because they disagree that the '50's' women who got fucked out of their pension should have it paid back.
And means tested will be the FamilyGuycolourswatch.jpg.
I’m beginning to think my chocolate queen Kemi is a retard.
She is a shit leader, not because she is black, but because she is retarded and black.

White supremacist jailed for 22 years for stabbing an immigrant

Callum Parslow, 32, stabbed Nahom Hagos in the chest and hand at the Pear Tree Inn at Smite near Worcester.

At Woolwich Crown Court, Parslow was given a minimum term of 22 years and eight months for attempted murder.

Sentencing Parslow, Mr Justice Dove said his attack on Mr Hagos was motivated by his adoption of a "far right neo-Nazi mindset, which fuelled your warped, violent and racist views."
When whitey does it, he has violent and racist views because he's a nazi. When a nigger kills 3 kids, he has mental health problems.
Keep this sentence in mind when nogson ali-al-ackbar umbongo kid-stabber goes to trial.

Not surprising, I guess but particularly horrific. Many of our “leaders” are actual, open pedos and nobody seems to care. Indeed, their own party are covering it up. No wonder they want people to look away when the Pakis do it. They’re probably quite impressed by it and don’t think it’s wrong.

Repeat….we have actual, open pedos within our government. You couldn’t make this up. This list is incomplete due to legal reasons, but there may be up to 70 of them in a ring in Labour themselves. This allegedly includes a Labour front bencher.

UK set to introduce digital driving licences

Digital driving licences are to be introduced in the UK as the government looks to use technology to "transform public services".

They will be accessed on a new government smartphone app and could be accepted as a form of ID when buying alcohol, voting, or boarding domestic flights.

Physical licences will still be issued, but ministers believe the voluntary digital option will "drag government into the 2020s," according to The Times.

A government spokesperson told BBC News: "This government is committed to using technology to make people's lives easier and transform public services.

"Technology now makes it possible for digital identities to be more secure than physical ones, but we remain clear that they will not be made mandatory."

The virtual licences could be used at supermarket self checkouts, the Times said, allowing customers to verify their own age without waiting for a member of staff.

The new digital licences will be introduced later this year, the newspaper reported.

A possible feature could allow users to hide their address in certain situations, such as in bars or shops.

There were more than 50 million driving licence holders in the UK in 2023, according to government data.

The digital licences are likely to be launched as part of a "wallet" within a new government app called Gov.uk.

Here comes the digital ID system.

"Sir Charles explains that the prejudices some employers have about erstwhile parliamentarians"

Maybe, just maaaaaybe, the reason you aren't getting jobs has nothing to do with prejudice (okay, maybe a little) but because there are better candidates than you? That entire article reeks of "I should be given a job because I'm ever so special". Let's put your CV up against those of the other applicants and see just why you're getting knocked back.

You've got skills, fine, but so do Ukrainian refugees who are happy to do scutwork to pay the bills while they learn English, and I'd hire one of them any day over you.

And the guy who complained he's applied for "a few jobs" needs to hie himself to a Jobcentre for a stern talking to. You treat applying for jobs as a full time job, you wally. You don't just drift around waiting for the dream job to sail up to you.

This came up a few weeks ago, but it looks like already the Government is respinning it. The idea was that it was some sort of ID you could show that proved your age, but didn't have your name or address on it... presumably because some scummy bouncers or what have you were following young women home.
What a wonderfully diverse high-trust society we live in.

Here comes the digital ID system.
You know what the worst part is? I can actually justify a case for it, assuming an ideal world. It would be incredibly useful to have a unified digital ID system that could be used to hold all of your current, different ID documents as simple attributes. Need a passport? You just log into a portal using your ID (naturally), check a box, pay a fee, and now it functions as a passport. Driver's license, same deal. The electoral roll would be so easily managed if all you needed to do was log in and change your address. Need to prove your age to buy alcohol? Flash your phone. Done. Want to get a public travel discount card, like oyster or the bee? It's on your ID now. If they set it up right, you could even put credit cards in there.

Young, starry-eyed me of thirty years ago would look at all that and think it was an ideal way to do things, because it makes it all so easy. No more sending bits of paper, waiting for the bureaucracy to pull its finger out and do some work, waiting for more bits of paper to come back, and then inevitably having to write back to complain that they got it wrong. Just log in, press a button, and presto chango, an updated digital document.

Of course, the downside to such a flexible system is that they will be able to flag your ID for all sorts of other things as well. Your GP could note that you're overweight and put a flag on your ID to stop you buying anything sugary, or stop you being able to purchase "vices". Critical of the government? Now you can't buy knives or anything sharp, because you're a public danger, and then they flag your passport so you can't leave the country. Maybe you'll need to show ID every time you purchase fuel, which would then be a way to prevent you tanking up if you're over an allotted consumption for the week. ID to enter public buildings, ID to use public transport, ID to watch TV, ID to use websites, ID to make bank transfers or open an account, with every single use case being something that can be flagged and denied by the state.

And on top of that, this country being what it is, the bureaucracy would still need two-to-six weeks to process any changes you request, the fees would still be exorbitant, and you'd still have to send bits of paper back and forth and complain when they inevitably got it wrong.

The universalised convenience of digital ID is the thing they'll use to sell it as the carrot, with the stick being another dose of "think of the children" and pretending it will solve immigration issues even though every illegal will almost definitely get a new digital ID at the border.

As a luddite who dislikes using chip and pin, refuses to tap-a-phone to pay for goods, aviods at all costs the need for social media, views tiktok browsing akin to mental retardation and who uses a smartphone as an alarm clock, a digital ID would be hell.

I can't count the amount of places that refused me entry or service during lockdown because I didn't have a smartphone on me.

I won't carry the devil's device, consooom hours of retarded yank-chink propaganda or be tethered to the artificial ethereal. I won't live in the pod, eat the bugs or be a zombie.

I'd highly recommend @Spunt 's thread about the YooKay's problems:

If anything, having a governing party full of nonces is about fourth on the list of problems the country is facing.

You've got skills, fine
Bit of a stretch to assume these people have skills to begin with, the majority of elected officials rarely have particularly impressive CVs from before taking their seat and that's assuming they actually have any to begin with as many are increasingly going straight into their party of choice as aides and staff straight out of university.

And even if they do have some work history, it's been interrupted by, on average, a ten year gap in the Commons in which they developed no new skills, and are now having to enter a private sector which is increasingly gate kept by a mix of AI screening and a vocation of professional retards in hiring/recruitment that view employment gaps of even a few months as major red flags on a candidates work history.

I'd be tempted to feel sorry for them if not for the fact they spent years destroying their country for their own benefit and supported policies which contributed to the hiring practices that are now keeping them unemployed.

Talented people tend to leave for the colonies. They usually move to the States because the wages are higher and the quality of life is much better.

When I speak to knowledgeable British expats, they say a lot of the decisions that the government have made make little sense over the last 30 years. I don't know much about energy but those that do say the government's energy policies do not make any sense. I don't know much about geopolitics but those that do say the government's strategic decisions do not make any sense. I don't know much about the law but those that do say the excessive red tape and bureaucracy do not make any sense. And I don't think I need to mention immigration.

We pay relatively little on the front end for our politicians but we've paid excessively on the back end. Naturally, low quality people bring about low quality results. They also tend to be inflexible ideologues.
