A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I thought non-dom status was being abolished?
It's being "reformed" to only account for residency rather than domicile status, which is a much messier way to do it. Basically you can't stay in the same home for more than 91 days (or a financial quarter) and can't be in the country for more than 180 days total.

However, they're also sneaking things like this through:

The new regime will provide 100% relief on foreign income and gains for new arrivals to the UK in their first 4 years of tax residence, provided they have not been UK tax resident in any of the 10 consecutive years prior to their arrival (4-year foreign income and gains regime).

The up-shot is that we're going to see a lot of people leaving the country so they're no longer resident, but at the same time a lot of foreigners are going to become resident here for the next four years so they can avoid tax at home (they just have to declare the UK their domicile for the period) and also not pay tax here. It's the most retarded way to go about it.

Given how no one on government has any idea who enters and leaves the country this seems pretty retarded.

Who's planning on leaving the UK? It's too far gone, I'm lucky enough to have made it to £100k salary, which means for the next £20k I earn in bonus or payrise, I lose the personal allowance. So I'm in an effective 62% tax rate. While public services get worse, and the government implements policies that actively harm me and the native population. On top of always being aware in London someone might randomly start stabbing people.

I've never visited Singapore but I will be going there for a month next year to try it out. I could transfer to my company office there. I would only be taxed 19%, they are tough on crime and punishment, on paper it seems the perfect place to escape to and raise a family.

I'm interested in knowing where farmers are planning to go, or if you're planning to stick it out in the UK in hope of change.
Just be aware that Singapore is still a pretty expensive place to live, with COL on par with most major Western cities. You'd probably also want to sober up if you're into drugs of any kind; this place do not take kindly to that sort.

The upside is that Malaysia is literally next door, and has prices that are usually a third of Sinkie costs (in part due to a rather pronounced currency difference). Weekend shopping getaways are popular.

How long do they think they can keep this up? They lost control of big chunks of England last time this kicked off.
After pandering for long to Muslims they’ve planted this story today to make it seem like they are doing something. Double that are coming in daily. Only argument they seem it have is it is better than the Rwanda plan. After not deporting anyone at all for so long, why now though? Certain election result elsewhere rattled them?

So we just ignore the ones they stuff in hotels? This isn't them being scared because of the presidential election in america, this is merely a piss poor attempt at trying to save face and go "haha we can do this while the tories never did!!!!!!!", a fucking disgrace this government is.

The comment section on these fucking articles surely can't be good for anyone's health, "WE NEED REFORM" "THIS IS ALL THE TORIES FAULT" "RIGHT WINGERS FELTED" and my personal favourite "IMMIGRATION IS NOT THE PROBLEM CHUDDY IT'S THE GOVERNMENT NOT INVESTING IN INFASTRUCTURE".

I ought to stop looking at this before I start thoughtcriming.

Ego is a bitch.

In the same way that the ywef want hate speech laws, they also don't want deportations and actively support immigration.
Look at the colour pallet of the next group of school kids to walk by you; white, asian, wog and paki. The generation of kids <25 grew up in multi-ethnic schools and universities. They don't want their best pal Ahkmed - a stand up muslim who isn't like the rest, or their pal Simon The Smiling Samba, to be deported. They're good guys and white people are the problem.

We even saw a few pages back a group of posters blaming whitey for darkie chimpouts. Deportation isn't a popular topic.

I've been seeing a lot of talk on Twitter about Starmer's possible involvement with the Southport attack. Doesn't seem really concrete to me, but does anyone here know more?

The rumour is that, while working as a human rights lawyer in 2003, he helped alphonse rudakubana (the southport stabber's dad) claim asylum and avoid deportation. It hasn't been verified yet, but the timeline is close. If it's true, then it means Starmer is directly responsible for the entire chain of events unfolding, which might offer an alternative explanation for why he was so heavy-handed in his response to the riots.

Not yet.
Starmer is at the heart of this, nothing concrete yet.

Big if true, unironically. This could probably topple the Government. Frankly, I hope it's true.

It's mainly being discussed in the "Summer of Discontent" thread in Happenings right now. No evidence of a direct connection with Axel Rudukabana's father specifically, but Starmer was the person pushing for and getting the importation of a number of Rwandans and the fact that Axel's family came over after the genocide suggests they were fleeing legal consequences for being involved. The timing currently looks like it's slightly out for Starmer being directly responsible for this specific family but we don't know and it seems he might have been indirectly responsible. Journalists and Farage have been ordered not to talk about something and the Speaker of the House has suspended parliamentary privilege for talking about it (caveat: how much he can actually enforce that is debatable). So there's something going down.

Anyway, Happenings thread is where you want to be.

It will take Starmer out, won't take out the current Govt.

Losing the PM to a scandal of that magnitude will openly fracture the party, and if he goes down the fallout will almost certainly take others with him. Reeves for sure, because she's got a slow-burning scandal of her own to contend with in the shape of lying about her qualifications, which will tie into the overall perception of corruption and deception that would grow out of Starmer's scandal. The slapper might take the opportunity to turn on him for a chance at number 10, but she's also closely tied her fortunes to his, so there's an outside chance she'll go down with him if she can't distance herself fast enough.

If this really has legs, I'd look out for people trying to establish a clear space between themselves and Starmer in the next couple of weeks. Streeting is definitely on the other side of the fence already; he's vocally opposed the assisted dying bill, which is one of starmer's and rayner's pet projects, and found himself in hot water over it.

If Starmer does go down, whoever eventually takes the leadership will almost certainly face defections to the liberals or to independence, a no-confidence vote supported by one or more of the internal factions, and a thrashing at the election if that vote passes.
