A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Sadiq Khan says Londoners will be 'fearful' over Donald Trump's stunning US election win as long-running feud between mayor and new president revives

Thought I'd pop this here as the picture got a chuckle out of me. Khans definitely crying over the result this morning, my favourite quote of the article has gotta be..

'The last time we had a Trump presidency, as a matter of public record, there was a massive increase in hate crime towards me,' he said.

Guess poor Khan got called a paki, boo hoo. Is their anyone outside of the festering immigrant shit hole that is London who looks at him as anything other than a vile paki terrorist waging war on the few English working men and women still left in London??

No populist child, it is you that was wrong about Kamala Harris, enjoy twitter jail

God he's fucking insufferable. He really epitomises why people hate politicians. The schadenfreude this morning of watching his ilk's shock and outrage that the dirty unwashed masses aren't doing what their betters tell them to do has been glorious. For most of the election runup I assumed he's just been following orders to spout propaganda, but it turns out he's just genuinely that smug and out-of-touch.

What a wonderful, wonderful day.

Irks me when they use the 'convicted felon' line of attack. Utterly braindead take, ignoring the obvious political nature of bringing the charges and subsequent prosecutions.
Radio 4 was full of them today. Heard that and;

Project 2025
Misogony
Racist soul of America
Convicted of sexual assault
Young, white men

And more over and over again.

PMQs today, Starmer kept accidentally saying he was bringing a "tax rise for working people".

God, he's such an insufferable little man. Where is this generation's Foot?

Lads, have you noticed less sperging than last time now that the God Emperor of Mankind has been restored to the Golden Throne?

I thought there might have been more sperging from the office Guardian readers but it wasn’t much.

Although they might have sussed out I’m trying to get half of them sacked.

Even David Lammy has let me down.

It's true, I was expecting at least a token rant in the client slack today, but not a thing. I think they're still trying to process it.

Ed Davey's currently sperging a lot (both online and in person) so the Lib Dems might've taken that precious role away from Labour.

I think people here have had the opposite reaction to America and basically gone "Trump didn't impact us that much in 2016 so it's not such a big deal".

Sky News was in full cope mode after his win was announced, they seriously said the world will have to wait and see if he goes full authoritarian or not but that's all I've seen. It's certainly a much more muted response then the previous elections because people are just tired of all the bullshit.
Although I am a little sad we aren't going to see the media try and crown a new leader of the free world, nobody could tell you who's in charge of Germany these days while Macron and his hag panic every time they hear the name Marie. As for Trudeau he's just a seat warmer at this point who the governor of Canada should have been removed after he fled Toronto during the trucker protests.

Once upon a time major news networks reported the news in an unbiased fashion, and told their populace when another country's leader had been elected without snark or sneed.

I long for those times again. Just shut the fuck up and read the news. No-one wants your opinion.
