A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

It's an inherent characteristic for every group that's worth anything (racial/ethnic/religious/business) to have an in-group preference which is why people seem to have problems with her because like it or not Kemi's group are the bLACKS, although Bri'ish Candance Owens has great ideas about how Th*tcher did nothing wrong (come on now) she isn't in the group that matters and never will be.

Man, I didn't even (yet) do anything and Perfidious Albion has already so easily sided with the French against us fellow Anglophones. Still salty about USS Constitution doing what no ship built on the other continent could do by actually putting up a solid fight? You guys had an easier time with La Santisima Trinidad than you did with her, after all.

Master and Commander was a good film.

I actually like America and the French. But having worked in both countries, I've gotta say I'd have an easier time living in Frogland. Their women are cuntier in a classy kind of way which I like; and their countryside looks nice. Nothing quite like catfish fishing out in a silty area, or a hike in a US national park though.

I am of the belief that as human beings we should strive to move past our baser instincts, very naive of me I know but got to have have something to cling too these days.

Sure but can we at least laugh at the people judging her being either the ones that say we want to go back to a time when we did not see colour because they are only viewing her as Black or the ones that insist that because she is black that she should be only about her colour.

Those are the instincts that allowed our ancestors to survive for tens of thousands of years in the face of violence, resource competition and the threat of domination by neighbouring tribes that were not our own tribe.

Abandoning them is how our people will be swept away.

The race sperging is funny because it should really go without saying, wasn't there a membership dip when Richi couped Bogoff? I wonder what the baddie bounce direction will look like now because it's sure not gonna blip upwards is it and we all know exactly why.

Oh yeah, it was a great film. I still laugh to myself about the "lesser of two weevils" scene every so often because we've all made stupid jokes like that with our best friends after a few drinks.

If the fat one wins in a few hours we should put the idea into his ear through Musk and twitter to extradite and send down those 100 Labour members that went to Kam-paign, because that would be extremely funny. Surely there's some law from like 1780 about the Eternal Limey interfering in elections they can pull out of the books to do this. Do they still have gitmo going? Just a thought.
