A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

It's mainly self inflicted nowadays. It's not the 70s, there are plenty of opportunities out there to make money, most people just don't know or bother to try, and spend their money down the boozer on a weekend.

I've tried to get people into decent jobs with prospects to push on and make good money, and it's always either "I cannot leave, I need the security" or "yeah I'll look into it" which they never do.

When we had fuck all you fought for every scrap and it made it so you would wring every last penny out of any opportunity you were given.

Now you can sit around all day in a flat that is paid for by the tax payer, watching Sky Sports, also paid for by the tax payer blaming the government for all your problems rather than looking in a mirror and seeing the true source of your issues.

I think you're overrating that fact, left-wingers generally do not care whether the points they despise are spouted by a white man or a black woman, the opinions of "coconuts" matter little to them. I know a few like it, one is basically the exact same as you describe, dole scrounging for over a decade now, has a kid, smokes green all day and spergs about politics online. He's actually very well read up on things, he knows the dirty laundry of any politician or member of the royal family you could name to him, it's just a shame he places all of his focus and energy into something which has no tangible benefit. Blames everything on the Tories and New Labour obviously.

Related, but the thing that irritated me about the strikes was the bus drivers, I see the adverts on the back of the busses advertising for an amazing career at ~£13 an hour. Call me insane, but if I was on near minimum wage I'd not be striking, I would be looking into how I can aquire the skills to get a better job. Saying this apparently makes me an uncaring, unkind cunt, and the people enabling it are working class heroes or some shit.

On the contrary, we've seen how leftists behave whenever their pet minorities turn against them. They will spout any and all manner of racist viewpoints and stereotypes in the justification that the proud minority of colour in question is on the wrong side of history.

Possibly, I think it's more likely just went to the first available toilets. Given it's Scotland I would expect them to respect the person's pronouns but it's all "he."
