A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Bull sperm is the most expensive liquid in the world by volume. So it makes sense that Sainsburys are using it instead of milk, it sits nicely within their pricing structure.

Seriously, supermarket pricing is so fucking weird. Morrisons has meat that is 2/3 the price of Tesco or Sainsburys. Last week I got a pork fillet from Morrisons for about £3, I went to Asda later in the week and they were charging nearly £6 for the same thing. Asda also has ludicrously expensive cheese that's also extremely shit. It's not that everything is expensive, you can get things at an acceptable price but you have to visit almost every supermarket. Except Sainsburys. Everything is overpriced in Sainsburys and their always out of stock of everything.

The second-most expensive liquid in the world is inkjet printer ink.

There are genuinely times when you look at supermarket prices and wonder if they are actively colluding to drive their customers mad. Finding that now many prices are online only but not marked as such was the point when I was sorely tempted to torch the local Tesco.

I bet he's buying skimmed, the dirty get
I have to admit to being a semi-skimmed drinker. But I drink milk, not use it as flavouring in tea or coffee.

This is (one of the many reasons) why those "Our journo proves you can feed a family of six on tuppence a day!" stories are ludicrous, serving only to bash the Feckless Poor for not doing enough to stave off their own self-destruction. Sure, if you have the time and the transportation to flit between shops, you can take advantage of the fact that Aldi sells tinned tomatoes for 5p less than Lidl, but the bus fares are going up so you'll wipe out those savings, and anyway many of us stop in after work, lob things in the basket, and rush home to make tea for Him Indoors and the weans.

As for milk going off, I've found Cravendale filtered milk lasts for ages.

The milks likely over filterd and bought on the cheap because nobody else wanted it they used to do this back in the day when EVERYTHING they sold was branded "Blue Parrot Cafe" for a while the contracted with Arla but that's likely changed now.
They ruined milk in the UK over the last few years, including whole milk, it used to be 4% fat, now it’s only 3.6-3.7 % and more processed.

I only ever buy whole milk. The best milk currently imo, and the only ones I buy is Graham’s Gold top jersey or Waitrose Duchy organic unhomogenised. Occasionally I buy the M&S Cornish Creamery whole milk, it’s also ok.
Tom Parker’s enriched whole milk isn’t too bad either, but it has a slight strange after taste because of the added vitamins, so it may not be for everyone.
The less processed, the better.
When I have time, I also occasionally get raw milk from a farm shop. I bring it to the boil and let it cool down before using it just to be on the safe side, but it tastes much better than any supermarket generic milk.
On the other hand we probably shouldn’t complain because many other countries are in even worse situation, the US being a good example, almost all of their cream and milk is UHT.

The fact that Tesco have jacked their prices up to near-Waitrose levels unless you have a clubcard boils my piss, I just hope they are deriving little to no value from knowing how often I buy fancy scented arse paper, Gü desserts and Charlie Bingbong ready meals (in each case, it's when they're on offer or in the whoops section) as they're extortionate otherwise.

It tastes like tatty-water. Vile stuff.

I'm a full-fat drinker, I think. ever since some miserable penny-pinching cunt removed the coloured tops I can't tell.
I just checked, it's full-fat at 3.7%.

They've put the price of rotisserie chicken up from £6 to £7.25 in the space of a week because fuck you. I drive past a Lidl and an Aldi on the way home from work so they're my new shopping destinations. I can hit one on the Monday and t'other ont Thursday. TMI

Yes. Tesco posts record profits year on year. There’s a reason. They became a rip off merchant.
Have a look at how much their share price has gone up by just in the last 3 months. It’s madness.

Lidl does the best own-brand cheese and greek yoghurt in my experience. I switched from Tesco to Lidl almost completely, in fact fuck Tesco and their Eid/Divali shit.

It's great isn't it? Works wonders if you're on silly hours and waste ridiculous amounts of time due to public transport like yours truly.

And thanks to the aforementioned silly hours they're the only supermarket open after I catch the train back into town so I'm stuck going there unless I want to take time out of my day off to go Aldi or Lidl.

Lidi has amazing nuts for a reasonable price. Unfortunately, I live in the Isle of Man, so there's no Lidi here.
I'm talking about the alesto nuts brand.

Considering Tesco and the other large supermarkets got caught cooking the books a few years ago it makes me wonder if they're doing it again.

A lot of public pension schemes are heavily invested in Tesco, I suspect the government quietly interferes somewhere.
As a kid we had the milkman deliver milk, in glass bottles. the gold top had a layer of cream on top of it. You used to have to race the bluetits to it, or they’d peck through the foil tops. Tasted so much better

If kamala wins in the johnny foreigner free-for-all across the pond, will that give Starmer more powers as he has been pretty much tonguing her box? And what if, the evil orinj man wins, will he aid the people in decimating labour?
Neither but it still has an impact. Kier+Kamala = full scale export of the worst excesses of Democrat policies over here. So expect more BLM, reparations, trans rights, pro-immigrant, increased powers to NGOs and charities and of course even more thought police while normal crime goes unpunished.

If Trump wins expect him to periodically shit on Kier's cereal but little else.

I hope I get to see his piggy little eyes blinking furiously and impotently as trump shits all over him while gurning cheerily.
Alas I meant only metaphorically. But seeing Tump casually shitpost while President on Kier's timeline will be more than I would expect from the future so getting just that would be good.
