A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

It doesn't make you a faggot. Individual people can be good or bad; I've got black, muslim and chinese friends, all of whom are about as good as each other. It does mean you probably can't read a trend line, or understand what per capita means though.

Individuals would be fine, but it's not individuals. It is groups engaging in group action, with trends resulting from that; if you can't see that then you're either wilfully blind, or stupid.

You let a few hundred in, scatter them around, and that's probably okay. They'll got lost in the masses. But we let in millons; we let them form ghettos, and we let them have children. No matter how good your founding stock is, the children regress towards the mean. You bring in good, solid hardworkers - and let's be real here, Nigerians are hard fucking workers - who you vet and who try their best. Their kids come out shitty.

It's really not these peoples fault, our government essentially wants to use them as cheap slave labour, or as a way to sidestep investing in our own middle/professional classes. But that doesn't change the reality that to be British you need to be English, Scottish, Irish or Welsh; to be any of those things, you have to be born as one, it is an ethnicity. So if you're not, you don't belong here. Civic nationalism.is a worthless mud ideology that turns your nation to shit, deracinates you and disarms you of any rhetorical or ideological tools to defend against your replacement.

Now see this is a better argument even if I disagree with some of it I can understand this point of view better than just "Black = Bad".
 
So in other news unironically today there is an increasing amount of chatter that Starmer is resigning, which I can honestly see happening because if he does not resign Reeves and Reyner will stab him in the back accordingly and he will shame his family on top of that. He has served his purpose as a vehicle to usher them in. Unfortnately Labour are not like the Tories 80% of their seats are incredibly fragile and they would probably lose.

When it comes to race etc I am an individualist I know people of different paths who are great and have amazing families unfortnately it is the crushing majority that make them as a collective shit sadly. e.g. I am friends with quite a few Pakistanis all women mind you (lol) they are amazing people and incredibly skilled but the majority sullies them but I prefer to treat them differently. Now Fillipinos on the other hand every single one of those fuckers I have met have been based as fuck but exceptionally skilled.

They're clinging onto the majority in the by-elections they have had so far but it's only been 4 months.


The Labour party has continued to struggle in local by-elections, losing a seat to Reform in the latest round of council polls.
Nigel Farage's party won the Bilston North seat on Wolverhampton council from Labour during a vote on Thursday.

Anita Stanley secured 652 votes, almost 200 more than Labour who only narrowly beat the Greens. The Conservatives polled 257 votes to come in fourth.
Reform UK Chairman Zia Yusuf described it as a "stunning victory".
In the more than 100 council by-elections held since the July 4 general election, Labour has been defeated in about a third of the seats it was defending.
In local votes held since Sir Keir Starmer's party won a landslide victory on July 4, Labour has lost 21 councillors.
The Conservatives have gained 14. Reform has won two seats, but has also seen a handful of current councillors defect to the party in Essex and Scotland.
Commenting on the win in Wolverhampton, Reform UK MP Lee Anderson said: "Reform Gain. The political tsunami continues. And more defections incoming."
In other votes on Thursday, Labour held a seat on Salford council but saw their vote share drop more than 10 points.
Earlier this month, Labour lost a local by-election to the Tories in south east London amid a Conservative campaign against police station closures and the scrapping of winter fuel allowance for many pensioners.

I've worked with plenty of hard working Nigerians, and Eretrians, and Pakistanis - not indians though - and I wish that they were the actual norm. When I was doing teaching - only for a year - the only teachers worth a damn were two Nigerians who actually would put their foot down, and command some actual respect in class.

Make no mistake, lotta white people should be tarred, feathered, and thrown off the white cliffs to waiting sharks. I'm only singling out blacks because that's the topic of discussion. Being real, no one here would stay in Nigeria, I can't blame them for wanting, and then taking a better standard of living.
