A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I can help here.
Gonna expand a bit - you can use a drill as a lathe, with just a lathe chuck and a shaft. A drill can also be used with tungsten carbide cutters, and in theory can be used to cut steel. It's much better to do that on a larger workbench, rather than by hand.

You can thread steel with a precisely cut nut and bolt, which you can heat to a glowing temperature and dunk into cold water.

Those three things will allow you to make your own dowels, bolts and screws - giving you a lot more freedom.

I'd put money on this being another BBC presenter.

I think if it was at the BBC the tabloids would have included that detail. In fact they'd have led with it.

Also based on the tenses used I suspect it's not even a current presenter.

It’s a depressing indictment of the current state of the country that it could be pretty much any of them. If he was arrested won’t that be public record?
Mail website won’t open for me, I’ll look to see if there’s any clues to follow like ‘was arrested and released on bail fr his north London home…’ type stuff.
Should not be bail for child sex offendes ffs

Wanting some input from across the country; are you seeing bees at the moment? I’ve been out in the garden and there’s no bees. Where are all the bees? Things are starting to bloom as well, they’re usually out and about by now but it’s really noticeable how few there are. How is it where you are?
(I am seeing wasps everywhere like I haven’t seen in years though. Taken two nests down this week at the golfball size stage and have another one high up on the side of the house to get to at some point…) I’ve never had wasps build nests here before ever. And there are usually bees all over.

A few, not many but some, semi-rural for what that counts, no w*sps thankfully.
I remember when I was a child and always saw dozens, now they're always solitary gatherers.
As for the flowers they still manage but with much less variety, the bluebells manage fine but I don't see many of the big orange/yellow ones anymore.

I'm calling a hung parliament. Stalmer is basically white Rishsi at this point so Lib Dems might see somewhat of a resurgence only because people feel like there's no other option for them.

I've seen a few bees but funnily enough no wasps yet.

I've seen a fair few. Lots of bumbles and masonry bees. The early spring seems to have confused some of them.

Saw some bumblers a few months back.
Strangely enough I'm seeing honeybees at my FNAF sister location.

Probably down at my place. Bumblers. Bumblers and honeybees everywhere.

Also seen a couple of queen wasps and a native hornet. They're never an issue. Will keep an eye out for the Asian ones though.

Loads where I am. I saw a new type too, a digger bee. Stopped to watch them as it was quite fascinating seeing dozens of bees digging lol. The bush outside my house has flowers that attract many different types too!

I definitely see more bees than wasps.

As a fellow Brit I feel it was a suitably British response in this thread that an election announcement was briefly acknowledged before we turned to the more important topic of the local bee population.

Have seen both honey- and bumblebees, plus non-social wasps. Not the perpetually cross black'n'yella fellas. Doubtless they are lurking....

Oh good. Send some my way? It’s been wet and cold so maybe they’re just hiding

Bees are important. Rishi looking like a tiny drowned rat in front of number ten? Same old same old
