A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Breakdown of the no confidence numbers from that article.

*Note that the no confidence motion is against the PM _personally_ , not his party, which apparently does not constitutionally require him to step down if lost. But he probably would? Maybe? Peoples lack of shame continues to amaze me.

I have a feeling Yousaf would love to quit in a suitably dramatic fashion, that would allow him to play the victim and join the US lecture circuit like Jacinda Ardern. He must know he's a lame duck, that's only in the job because of the reverse Darwinism that occurred under Sturgeon where anybody capable of independent thought was purged. The SNP grandees are terrified that some point before the next Holyrood elections a nationalist party that isn't completly in the pocket of Alec Salmon will appear.

He was always useless in an executive roll but used to be at least able to perform in front of the cameras, now he's fucking up on a regular basis, such as his statement about the post office scandal where he obviously didn't understand the basic facts of law, or the fact that in Scotland it was the scottish government that prosectued the victims.

Honestly, I'll be pretty gutted if Useless gets the sack. It's impossible for him to replaced by someone worse, so logically his replacement must be better for the SNP.

Hope he survives the vote.

Damn, Useless Hummus is getting yanked even faster than I thought. The vote is 63 SNP, 64 opposition, and the last vote is that Alba MSP, who... left the SNP over their troon insanity and refusal to reeee harder over a second independence referendum. Hummus is donezo

I was given a gun, two bullets, and a time machine and told I could take out two historical figures before they could gain power, I'd go back and shoot him twice.
You should really save one of those bullets for Clement Atlee. Or at least find a way to bring two guns with you.

You say that, but we all thought they couldn't find someone worse than Sturgeon. And over here in the states we thought they couldn't find someone worse than Cuomo to be governor of NY state, and lo and behold, Hochul showed up.

There's some advantages to Alba for leaving him in. It's a tough one to call but I personally hope they vote in favour of him and a bunch of SNP break ranks and bury their knives in his back instead. In voting terms.

Yes, the same one that Yousaf then attempted to appeal after it was blocked by the PM, despite the fact it was blocked on fairly obvious grounds.

Also, while it might not be as satisfying as watching him getting his ass kicked, Laurence Fox has just been hit with £180k in damages in his libel trial:
Its amazing seeing Lawrence Fox literally trash his career and marriage for basically no gain, I'd expect him to have a thread alongside Glinner in a few years.

Graham Linehan has (had?) real talent. Enough that honestly, if he dropped much of this crap tomorrow and wrote under a penname, he'd easily work again. Arthur Mathews has repeatedly defended him in (rare) interviews. To be honest, give it five years for the tide to turn comprehensively against tranny crap in the UK and he will work again. I would dearly love to see the Father Ted musical staged. Hat Trick offering him £200k to take his name off the script was an outrage.

Laurence Fox meanwhile is literally the worst actor in his whole family. Every other Fox and Fox-adjacent is at least a moderately talented actor and performer. He looks like a weasel's corpse slapped onto a malfunctioning fairground animatronic.

The family dinners before his sister disowned him must have been fucking epic shitshows though. (In case reader is unaware, Fox's sister is married to Richard Ayoade. In a battle of wits between them, Lozza is very much coming unarmed)

Times Article is paywalled but this is an interesting one, not just because it names the snitch (Aedan Wolton who's got a prominent position in Sports England) but also because the case showed the regulatory body is another one captured b by the ideology and while the judge cannot force the re-education he recommends saying that they need it is likely to be cited in future cases against them.

A social worker who was helped by the FSU has been awarded almost £58,000 in damages from Westminster City Council and Social Work England in a landmark judgment (Times).

Meade, from Dartford, Kent, brought a case against the council and Social Work England in 2022 for harassment and sex discrimination after she was suspended for posting gender critical views on her private Facebook account.

The dedicated social worker with an unblemished 20-year record was suspended from her job at Westminster City Council after a single complaint was made by a Mr Aedan Wolton, then a colleague of hers and now Sport England’s ‘Diversity Champion’, about allegedly “transphobic” posts on her private Facebook page.

According to Mr Wolton, Rachel’s “transphobia” was evidenced by the fact that she shared links to news articles, including one from the Mail on Sunday, about transgender issues, as well as to blogs and petitions relating to the national debate over whether it should be made easier for people to legally change their gender.

Mr Wolton’s single complaint to the regulator Social Work England led to what Rachel describes as her year-long “Orwellian nightmare”.

An investigation by the regulator found Rachel’s posts to be “potentially discriminatory to members of the transgender community”, and said her “fitness to practice was impaired by way of misconduct”.

Having concluded that Rachel’s actions had the potential to undermine public confidence in social workers – even though there was no evidence her work had been affected – the regulator sanctioned Meade for 12 months under a disposal agreement. She was also referred to a fitness to pracise hearing (Mail, Times).

Despite Meade subsequently expressing regret for any “unintentional upset” caused and agreeing to additional training, Westminster City Council suspended her and threatened her with the sack for misconduct.

However, in what lawyers have described as an unprecedented move, the employment tribunal has now awarded almost £58,000 in damages, including £40,000 for injury to feelings against Social Work England and City of Westminster Council, exemplary damages against the regulator and Westminster City Council, and recommended that both organisations act within six months to train their staff in the principles of “freedom of speech and protected belief”.

Awarding the damages, employment judge Richard Nicolle said that Social Work England’s actions constituted a “serious abuse of its power as a regulatory body”.

The written ruling also criticises the regulator for “not considering matters from an objective perspective” during its investigation and instead having a “pre-ordained view” that Meade’s beliefs were “less worthy of respect than the opposite side of the debate, i.e., an employee promoting gender self-identification rights”.

As a result, judge Nicolle said that it had “allowed its processes to be subverted to punish and suppress” the Claimant’s lawful political speech.

Addressing the responsibility of Westminster city council, the judge said that a decision by officials to suspend the social worker would have “had a very profound effect on her, and would inevitably have fundamentally eroded her dignity, given that her career was very important to her”.

The ruling on damages went on to say that Meade “would have felt ostracised and stigmatised. She was precluded from having any contact with her colleagues and thereby increasing her sense of isolation.”

Rachel Meade said she was “delighted with such a positive judgement after a such a long and dreadful experience. It’s been a hard fight, but I feel relieved and liberated that justice and freedom of speech has prevailed.”

Commenting on the damages award, Meade said she hoped “that the recommendations for training on freedom of expression and legal right of expressing protected beliefs serves as a stepping stone for positive change”.

Her lawyer, Shazia Khan, described the judgement as “a damning indictment of Social Work England and Westminster City Council’s prolonged and oppressive treatment of my client. An award of exemplary damages against a regulator for the manner in which it has carried out its function is unprecedented.

Everyone at the FSU is delighted for Rachel – we supported her case during its early stages, helping to promote her legal crowdfunder.

It’s also worth pointing out that Rachel’s “Orwellian Nightmare” demonstrates exactly why one strand of the FSU’s Parliamentary and lobbying work is now focused on persuading ministers and senior officials to amend the Employment Rights Act 1996 to make it impossible for companies to discipline staff for saying entirely lawful but contentious things outside the workplace.

He might be gone but his law isn't. Keep that in mind as the SNP gets into slapfights over who should be appointed next. I'll be happy to eat my words if the law is annexed but this is literally the best opportunity any potential tyrant in the SNP like Useless who happens to own more than half a braincell has been waiting for.

EDIT: Upon hearing his speech I noticed Useless stated that he'd stay as first minister until a suitable replacement is found. Considering the amount of time it takes for a leadership vote to take place.... who knows what he could get up to during that time.

Ding dong, Humza’s gone!
Hurrah, but also who will replace him? And that bloody law that trashes free speech is still there.

NOT ENOUGH MONEY. This poor woman has been ruined for saying a fact. It’s not a bloody opinion that people can’t change sex, it’s a fact.

I really hope he will. It’s very lonely going against the tide when you know you’re right in your beliefs. Nobody knows you when you’re down and out, and all that. Perhaps his new sitcom could be set in a third tier British university’s student union office?

conservative no confidence vote isn't legally binding, nor is it going to happen now that king paki is dead. the labour vote is binding and will happen afaik.
whether the greens vote against the scottish govt as a whole (rather than in the paki alone) or not remains to be seen, but in any case they are parasites who have exerted a malign influence on an already fairly malignant party.
