A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Thinking about it, I'd rather Labour get rid of Starmer and then spend the next few years basically constantly squabbling and getting nothing done like what happened with the Conservatives near the end of their run.

Since it gives Lowe time to build up more, get more momentum, get himself out there after his strong run in EoE. I can see him expanding further out into EoE and maybe the North in particular. Who knows, maybe if that works out he can become a spoiler/kingmaker, forcing whoever wins (because I don't see him getting enough trusted people out there to fill all the seats even by then) to either bring him in or eat shit via rainbow coalition.

Keir is saying he wants to be PM for another 8 years and will fight any leadership challenge. "I’m not going to walk away from the job I was elected to do in July 2024". Fuck me, 8 years? we won't have a sodding country left.
I'd ask Keir where the fuck he gets whatever he's smoking, because it must be some real brain melter. Then again, he probably gets it smuggled in via his rentboys and fishes it out with his tongue.

Well anyway he managed to get 1% of the vote in one seat, and the Green Party are seething because they only missed out by 0.3%, and blame this on their voters being too stupid to tick the correct box and accidentally voting for a racist :story:
Hey! Hitler was a sensitive man! He was friend to all the animals, except for jews.

On top of that, Labour MP Catherine West has given a deadline by Monday, when she will attempt to trigger a no-confidence vote.

Bit of a left-field thing, but it's both the path to Starmer being ousted and an early election. If enough of the hard left of Labour (which, as I've said, is three parties in a trenchcoat) are dissatisfied with Starmer, they can trigger an early election by signing on to a vote of no confidence with their tory enemies. There's a long precedent for this sort of thing, where a wing of the governing party sides with the opposition to trigger a VONC to get their way. We are facing interesting times.

Starmer won't leave voluntarily, I agree. But he may not have a choice in the matter.

Most likely is a leadership challenge, rather than an election. Regardless, I don't think Starmer will be around for much longer. The way the labour leadership process works means he'll be here until september no matter what, except for extraordinary circumstances. If I'm right, he won't be leader next year.

He also hired gay and handicapped officers, and was concerned about overpopulation!

Ah, reminds me of the time I spotted someone with an Anal Cunt shirt at a concert, honestly was one of the better lads I chatted to there.

Very telling that the Greens are implying their voters are too stupid to spot the difference.

Starmer will be gone by winter but I'll be shocked if there's a general election before Parliament has to be lawfully dissolved. Labour's majority is too large and most of those MPs know that they are at serious risk of losing their seats.

After the repeal of the Fixed Terms Parliament Act there isn't a legislative provision giving the Commons the ability to force the dissolution of Parliament. Either one of Streeting or Rayner, because it will be a choice between them, will be able to command a majority in the Commons if Starmer is forced to resign after a vote of no confidence.

Has anyone here heard of this woman, Saskiateague, before? I feel like if they were going to do a rugpull, this would be a really stupid time to do it. I also find it strange her immediate reaction is to go and make a multi-paragraph essay about it rather than trying to resolve it privately. Is there anyone else making similar claims? One more thing, why did the GB News guy make it about "muh Zoomers"?

So how long will it be before Farage drives Reform straight into the fucking ground now that it is moderately sucessful like every other political party he somehow becomes leader of?

He's not going anywhere, he's the kapparot chicken for the entire political establishment at this point, and he has a LOT more sin to eat, they wouldn't let him quit if he wanted to. the only ones retarded enough to break this delicate stasis are the lefties, and they might just fucking do it, but until they do queer isn't going.

An aside, I wonder how many times over the years the rooster has crapped on someone's head...?

I swear the BBC pick the pannel of guests for question time based on who would piss me off personally the most. Hearing Jenrick talk makes my blood boil "I don't think our country has been well governed for most of my adult lifetime, and I take my share of responsibility for that"

This is the same cunt who rubber stamped bringing over thousands of afghans and putting a gag order on the media so they couldn't report on it until they had already settled in the country.

This was over a data leak that exposed afghans who had worked with the UK government during the war. In my opinion, fuck em! They weren't loyal to their own people and sucked the cock of the invader who destroyed their country and the UK government thinks that they will suddenly become ultra loyal to the UK and not immediately cooperate with a foreign power at the first sign of conflict? Let the taliban do whatever the fuck they want with them it's only fair.

To be fair, I was thinking similar about who is she in the first place, whether she posted any actual receipts or if Restore had made any response? Was catching up to see if anyone posted more about it.

As for GB News, didn't someone post at beginning of the week that Farage has some sort of financial ties with them or maybe was ties to Reform? But if that is the case, would make sense that they'd be negative toward Restore.

If Starmer gets thrown out or resigns from his spot, who is the most likely to succeed him?

Miliband? They must be absolutely mad. They’d be better off digging up Prescott or seeing what Gordon Brown is up to.

>ACKworth

You cannot make this shit up, the UK has a place called 'Troon' and now Ackworth?

My fucking sides are in orbit!
when I was a wee naive kiwi in the days of lurking, I saw Troon being mentioned a lot, and thinking it used to be a nice wee town, what have they got against it?! then I was educated by the horrors and managed to cope with the horrors in the SRS thread lol
