A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

3 - Hmm, unless Your Party can eat away at the LD voter base (and it's not that likely considering your South London Socialist in Twickenham is not the same as your North London Socialist in Islington) then I'd have to say no.

The way I see it, a Lib Dem voter is just a past Tory voter. Leafy suburbs, the South West, their staggering reputation for local councils. Your Party voters will be for Muslims and student lefties who think Labour is right-wing. I think Jezbollah will eat a tiny amount of LD votes in comparison to the Labour votes it will gorge on. The SNP are currently getting 30 - 35% of the polling in Scotland so I could not disagree with this one more. Alba is currently polling between 0% - 1% which is deposit loss territory.

The latest has them at 32% versus Labour's 19% - 22%, which shows genuine appetite for more of the SNP, however baffling. I don't use heroin so I couldn't even pretend how a Scot feels but the numbers don't really lie.

If they do as Plaid have done and say 'we won't push for independence for 5-10 years, we just want to sort out the mess Scotland is in' then if they get a decent leader (IF) then maybe they'll do well.

My husband does Archery and he's got a really wide range of different bows, some look really simple, a few of them to me look like right mean bastards.

They come in quite funky colours too.

The only problem is, you'd have to be sure you're not so crap at aiming (especially if you're shitting yerself or they are running up to you) that you've got to go up to the bloke you're firing at and kindly ask for your arrows back so that you can have a pop at him again!

I can second this as I have some friends who got into it and it sounds like a really welcoming sport and very newbie friendly. Also very welcoming to women despite being mainly burly outdoor men at the club my friends go to (and not in a creepy or patronising way.)

They’re very safety conscious (since you could easily kill someone if you act like a retard) but the safety course is pretty short and more a barrier to put nutcases off.

Another part about the bus thing is not only did they increase the cap but they increased prices at the same time. My bus fare used to be less than £3 but more than £2, cap came in a few years ago and it went down to £2, then when they removed it the price didn't go back to precap prices it went up to the max. Fuck around with a greatsword then fuck around with any sort of fencing sword and you will be surprised which one makes your arm hurt faster. For a sword 6lbs isn't that heavy really, heavier than average but it's more office worker to builder not anorexic to american. The thing with basically all medieval weapons is that they do not matter. Realistically a greatsword is no more deadly than a penknife unless the rapist shows up in full plate armour. When penetrative wounds over 4inches are enough to kill you don't need something 4ft long. Also the centre of balance in a greatsword would probably be about the same distance from your hand as an axe is if not closer. Glad I started another tangent though.

Chest guards are not for women. Chest guards are important for everyone, including men. Women get more use out of them but in american terms that's like saying women are fine with that front crotch carrying a p230 because they have to balls to shoot off. You should be wearing one because when you need it you will fucking need it regardless of how big your tits are. Especially as women's bras are pretty decent at padding against any wayward stings that men (normally) don't have. Archery is pretty evenly split between genders, it's the most even I've ever seen. I would recommend a cross, then finding God, then arm yourself with a real weapon.
