A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I saw an interesting idea floated around on schizo media: they're forcing the country to an IMF bailout so they can label the incoming EU alignment as a bailout condition.

I think it's much more likely just retards who never grew out of their student politics phase (where the perfect is the enemy of the good) who have finally gotten into power and can't help themselves, but it's an interesting idea and something to look out for if it ever proves to be correct.

I’m wincing at him having no shoes on and thudding that axe around, but it’s a good display of the balance on the sword isn’t it? It’s more like a staff or pole with a blade and a catching guard on one end than what’s thought of as a sword. Did they use the other end as a counterweight only or as a battering object too?

Dangerous game to play. It casts them as weak and it will not go down well. That’s the sort of thing that starts real civil unrest - people voted for brexit, they have it as grudgingly mismanaged to screw them as possible, and then they’re told they have to go back.

Those types of swords were mostly used for area denial, and the pommel is mainly leverage and counterweight. You'll also see massive blunt sections on greatswords like this for certain half-swording techniques.
The pommel was rarely used for hitting, but with the regular longsword (which was also usually used with two hands, but way shorter and lighter) people would use the crossguard as a hammer when in armored combat to punch through helmets.

I might actually look something like Cannes de Combat or something like that. And maybe boxing. I've never had any issues with people getting in my face, but y'know, you never know, y'know.
 
I always preferred the horse knife. Staff with a blade on one end and a dagger on the other.
Turn the horse into a biped and as the rider falls forwards continue the swing into a head stab. Not very useful against a ford galaxy with a glowie at the wheel so they went out of fashion.

The problem with the half sword meme is you're doing an awkward thing to point a blade at yourself. If you've done any sword fighting you know how often it ends in grappling. And you can always use it as a punching weapon without having to reverse it. Smashing your fist with a guard above it into someone's face is a good way to cause blunt damage. There's always talk of having to punch through helmets and you don't need to do that. You need to rattle the thing inside the helmet bad enough it can't function. If you hit it with enough force you're going to give the guy inside a concussion or knock him out. You have a huge piece of metal swinging at someone. Even in practice people end up injured pretty bad from impacts not intended to hurt them.

Starmer is in an impossible position because he's also tied to Rayner. Reeves cannot go now and once this reshuffle is past, that's his only chance to replace her. Keeping her on after the reshuffle seals his fate and guarantees that next year they will do a "reset" going into the next election.

I imagine with Miliband in charge, they'd have to call an early election as so many MPs would rebel. The current Labour government is already on the line of elected/illegitimate and that would tip it over, I think.

Couldn't agree more. An IMF bailout either results in a French riot or a Greek riot and I know which one I'd prefer.

Now this government knows it won't be re-elected, its main focus now will be fucking things up for the next government to give themselves a shot in the 2030s.
 
It might seem like doom and gloom, but arguably we're now at the beginning of the upward trend towards the Right Wing being proven to be not 'Far Right' but 'not Far Wrong'.

Cooper has to be axed in the re-shuffle, though rumours are that the equally odious Jess 'Sargon Wouldn't Shag Me' Pisslips will replace her. A case of replacing AIDS for cancer.

We're also seeing the US Congress taking a liking of Nigel Farage and the sidelining of 'never here Keir' by Donald Trump. At the same time, Rachel from Accounts is going to have to beg the IMF for a bailout and she is going to have to have to take orders from the USA and Donald by default.

If Starmer were to axe Rayner (which is being heavily mooted), then the grandees will want him gone - Blair, Brown, Beckett, Campbell and Kinnock want 'Ange' to become PM and are angry at how Keir is treating her as well as how he is also ruining the Labour party and its future chances of success.

We have a series of potential 'Checkmates' at play:

* Trump no longer backing Starmer and backing Farage instead.

* VONC in Starmer by the Unions at the Conference and/or them backing Corbyn instead.

* Mass defections from Labour (enough to trigger a 'Minority Government' - Shabana Mahmood and Tulip Siddiq rumoured to be leaving Labour along with Dawn Butler, for starters).

* OFCOM losing their case in the USA will make Starmer look impotent and inept - calls will then come for him to be replaced.

* The Budget not being passed and being rejected - this is the key one, IMO, as 1994 was the Budget was not passed wholly (concessions had to be granted, and eventually were by then Chancellor of the Exchequer Kenneth Clarke). Labour rebels would vote against the Budget EVEN IF THREE LINE WHIPPED, leading to chaos and a compromise Budget having to be agreed (the IMF and Bank of England would have to arrange an Emergency Budget in this case),

Reform UK are still way out in front, the mood of the nation is 'this shit cannot continue' and we are still only a spark away from things kicking off. At this point, Starmer is only treading water.

Which MP do you think the Tories will groom to take the fall? I don't think Reform has any one they can put in charge for 6-12 months and then blame for all the bad policies. But the Tories always use it and I bet Labour do with Starmer too.
