A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Not just terrorists, but 'extreme right wing terrorists'. I fail to see why I should fund a government that considers peaceful citizens with a different point of view in this category. Labelling a large group of the indigenous people of this country in this manner, merely because it is their belief that the culture of the country is worth preserving, is clearly a politcal move. This is long term how this government want to remain in power - thanks to the actions of the Devil in the 90s - they will because their agenda is clearly imbedded in the unelected civil service and judiciary.

So it is now becoming increasingly possible to be rounded up for wrong think ( who is introducing this, oh look, it's the insidious Yvette Cooper ) - you can talk about Starmer, Rayner, Reeves, Lammy, Miliband and Streeting all you like - Cooper is making her schemes reality in the background ( this reminds me of Labour in the 90s ) and they will have more far reaching impacts. Most of the cabinet I have mentioned have policies I disagree with, but I don't see them as anywhere near as dangerous to my way of life because they range from incompetent - the Chancellor, to retarded, the Foreign Secretary. Cooper is neither- she has the mix of just enough competency, perseverance and complete contempt for anyone who doesn't support their diatribe to make this happen.

Not news, but: The government has started rolling out their new "One GOV" single sign-on service for using tax and business-related online services, with the plan of this being the only way to do it in the long run. They've fucked it up. I get certificate errors out the wazoo and can't sign in to companies house to manage my company details, which is a bit of a problem, as I need to make a filing soon. This is actually how I get people thinking about the real problem of immigration, in terms of cultural norms and expectations.

In a homogenous culture, people have a set of behavioural expectations; they know how other people will react in most given situations, most of the time, so they can be more open and trusting of one another in their interactions.

Imagine a small town of 1000 people, all from the same culture. A single swede moves in one day. That single swede moving in next door is a novelty. An interesting thing. He'll present a bit of a social challenge, behaving in ways you don't expect, but you'll get over it; everyone else still behaves the way they're meant to. He'll be friendly, most people he interacts with will be friendly, and it'll seem fine.

A hundred swedes moving in to the town changes the equation. Now there's a roughly 10% chance that any given person you interact with will behave "wrong"; they won't respond to a situation the way you expect. This creates disjoint; it breeds mistrust, however subtle, because the rules are no longer valid and can be broken at will. People start to withdraw from one another. The swedes will, out of necessity, interact with the locals and the issue may be overcome in time, but it will permanently alter the character of the town.

A thousand swedes moving in, doubling the population. Now there's a greater than 50% chance any given person you interact with will be "wrong", just due to how population dynamics work. The two groups may have the best of intentions and may try to be as friendly and cooperative with one another as possible, but they inevitably will avoid interaction with one another whenever possible, in order to minimise these issues and avoid conflict, but that conflict will be inevitable as people do the things expected of their culture, which clash with the other culture.

We see this play out everywhere, all the time, where two cultures are forced to live alongside one another. The Irish diaspora in the north west of England always ended up in ghettos; there was an Irish enclave in my mother's home all the way to the 1960s, when it finally dissipated with the general increase in population mobility. In all that time, the Irish were Irish, even though they didn't speak a lick of the language and had Lancashire accents; everyone knew it. They even kept coming over in fresh waves, like my grandfather. These were two culturally almost identical groups, but they took generations to merge. The swedish example above would require even longer, yet they're still white and European. There's no pan-european "white race", except in the very broadest sense of the term, which is only useful when discussing a common defence of the right for a people to have a homeland.

A few incomers isn't a problem in isolation, but once you get into double-digit percentage territory you're facing, at best, generations of conflict and mistrust, and at worst a cultural genocide,

I get the anger, it's a waste of time trying to talk to these people because they're the reason it's so bad. They'll bleet about it, they'll say something needs to be done, then do nothing. They'll return to their bread and circuses, happy with the warming soon-to-be-boiling water that they're sat in.

What we're seeing, is what I saw in my home town, on a nation wide scale. My family see it, they saw our home town when it was posh, when it was the place to live in the area, before they knocked the church down to build a huge mosque, before the no-go areas for whites became the norm, which is what we're seeing on country-wide.

I hope you find a corner of decency to live in in the UK, they do exist, though they're getting smaller and smaller and failing that, just leave. Find a company where you can work from home or, just work abroad. Stacking shelves for a living might not be a flash career, but doing it in a sunny, beautiful, open, nigger-free paradise is a good way to live. If you want a safe bet, look at eastern europe, as Brits are flooding there and pushing the house prices up. Buying now is a good investment, if not a full time escape.

Funnily enough where I live in "da norf" they ignored the Paki problem for decades when it was obvious in hindsight it was coming since 97 and now it is quite literally impossible to get rid of them as they now out number and out vote the natives. I used to be a lot more out spoken about the paki problem but no one else around here wants to lift a finger about it or I get actively attacked over it so now I've decided to leave them to their misery (though they'll still complain about it in private). It's so bad now that I counted only 2 white people in the town centre (excluding myself) and the rest was just browns.

We used to have Pols but they all left long ago, now it's just jeets and we've began getting Albanians and blacks so the crime rates surged upwards, almost got mugged once by a gang of them.

I'm filling out my passport and I plan to get a work permit literally any where but here. There's a difference between being a coward and being suicidal and I don't plan to throw myself against the juggernaut which is the UK government and those who play defence for it whilst everyone else sticks to their bread and circus and watches.
