Not quite true - they require lip service now, because a few very loud people care desperately about troons. Mostly troons themselves. Basically, because the internet amplifies malcontents and troons so often spend all their day online, their voices are disproportionately represented. And then other too-online people, like journalists and/or SJWs, pick up on it, and you all of a sudden have a bunch of people believing #blacktroonlivesmatter.
So a few people care about troons. But they're the people who are never satisfied and are also a very small sliver of the population. So catering to them so hard is probably the stupidest idea the Dems have had in years. Because when choosing between groups to appeal to, why would you go for the ones that are less than 0.1% of the population and overwhelmingly mentally ill and useless when you have a 99.9% to aim for? Even appealing only to black voters is a 13% minority, and a lot of them do more than just whine online.
You'd think the absolute beating Labour took in the UK might have been an indication they were on the wrong side, that maybe going all-in on idpol was a bad idea. Hell, look at how the most blatant brown-nosing candidates in the Dem primary, the ones who asserted their pronouns during a debate, all lost to one senile old white guy.
Troons, like all narcissists, are single-issue voters - and that issue is themselves. Not that his vote matters in the slightest, not that he won't tell be he did anyway, but I wouldn't at all be surprised if Johnny Flynt doesn't end up voting for Biden/Harris this year, because that would be transphobic. Most other staunch Democrats and 'I'd vote for Hitler over Trump'-types are busily reconditioning themselves to support the ticket because they have to, even though they likely still have ACAB in their Twitter profiles. Troons like John, though, will talk up supporting them, but just have to make sure you know how terrible it could be for trans rights, because god forbid you not vote solely in the interests of that 0.1% of the population that always demands you give them more.
