Gah, this triggers me so hard.

yep, definitely a software engineer.png

It's called S/MIME you dumb bitch. It's existed for the last two decades. Your email client already supports it. You just don't use it. Also, your SMTP traffic is almost certainly already encrypted with TLS.

The last thing the world needs is another fucking Apple proprietary protocol for a thing that already works just fine. At least if you're going to pretend to be a software engineer, at least be vaguely familiar with, you know, software.

If you want to go really hard in the paint, there is also PGP which should be pretty easy for an engineer like John to get working.

In terms of data at rest, both MacOS and Windows provide full disk encryption right out of the box via FileVault or Bit Locker. You have to turn it on. Considering John never bothered to enable TFA for this phone though, the chances of him doing this are pretty low.

Well, I suppose if Wu is going to be right about one thing I guess PGP is a bit complex for joe public. Having to explain to them that they have to to check the key's hash before deciding to trust it is a bit much.

On the other hand, these days you can get yourself a completely free identity certificate (for example) signed by an actual trusted CA and people can just import your key from emails you send them and have their email client just trust it right off.

There's just no excuse for not having signed/encrypted email if that's a thing you want. It all works right out of the box, right now. It's just no one really cares, and hardly anyone's email is actually sensitive enough to warrant the effort. For the most part, TLS security in IMAP/SMTP is enough for practical purposes.

This coming from someone who spent the entire election ridiculing "Bernie Bros", whose favored candidate then lost amidst a wave of controversy and disappointing attempts to reach younger voters.
Bri, there's this phrase about unringing bells you should become familiar with, particularly if you're trying to get into politics.

I'm no linguist but even I know this is about as wrong as humanly possible.

It was originally coined to describe women from the Isle of Lesbos (I think everyone knows that part) and then was used as a medical term that was essentially the female equivalent of "sodomite".

At no point in the late 19th century/early 20th century was anyone "taking it back".

Wasn't one of its first appearances in Krafft-Ebing's Psychopathia Sexualis? The term was NOT intended as positive at all.

Amateur etymologists who cite the OED as their source on the first appearance of words that have any type of sexual connotation need to spend a little more time studying their hobby. The OED has always been notoriously prudish and also does not like to cite "low" sources such as bawdy plays and lewd ballads and libidinous books. The word lesbian was in common use by the 1600s in such works, and those works were almost all written by men; none of them were written by lesbians trying to trace the lineage of their Sapphic lust.

For example: "Contrary to those who rely entirely on the OED, Emma Donoghue has established beyond doubt that throughout the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries the word ‘lesbian’ was used in the very same sense as today, and that lesbians were viewed as a distinct sexual and social group. To cite an example from a literary work that was excluded from the OED survey (either because it was libellous, or because it was published in Dublin), sexual relationships between women are described as ‘Lesbian Loves’ by William King in The Toast in 1732, where he explains ‘she loved Women in the same Manner as Men love them; she was a Tribad’; in the 1736 edition of King's book such women are called ‘Tribades or Lesbians’."

That the pathetically unread and aggressively ignorant Flynt/Wu greeted Invisgoth's error-filled tweet with the exclamation "The more you know!" comes as no surprise. Also, Invisigoth looks like a good candidate for a thread of her (his?) own.

I couldn't decide whether this was a Winner or Informative. I dub it Winformative.

John will make it illegal for people to do bad things and then the bad things will go away.

Another amazing day of hitting the campaign trail HARD

Funny thing is that Uber didn't do anything that bad. The story got traction because of some hyperbolic headlines by media outlets.

All Uber did was note the IMEI number from the phone. They didn't track anyone when the app was deleted. It would be impossible for them to do so once the app was uninstalled. The reason they noted the IMEI number in their system is because they didn't want people uninstalling and reinstalling the app to abuse the promotional coupons. Nothing nefarious or illegal was taking place.

Now this is against Apple's policies because of the resale market. And Uber did try to skirt that policy. But that's an issue between Apple and Uber. There is no tracking taking place and certainly no privacy violations. I can't possibly think of what this magical law would entail. It would likely have to make digital fingerprinting of users illegal. So websites couldn't cookie users, Windows couldn't activate licenses in the same way.

Like this would be understandable if it came from an old politicians who knows squat about technology and got riled up by an article. But her entire campaign message is that she's some tech guru.

It's those damn white people who caused all the problems, again!

And yes it's another fucking eBook audiobook, to be precise.

Hilary did worse with black voters, ergo her discussing race hurt her with white voters.

Is there any form of logic this ghoul can get a grip on?

No, you clearly ARE trying to say something about their "commitment on race", or you wouldn't have randomly brought it up. The book was about what a shitshow Hilary's run for office was and how she was not an effective candidate, not about racial issues.

You asshat.
