Are you suggesting that you can't learn anything from listening? The point of reading these political books is to learn from them, not just to light up bits of your brain.

Studies have shown that you're more engaged by actually reading a book than idly listening in the car. You're also more likely to re-read passages for better understanding and a ton of other little things that add up to a better overall understanding of the subject material.

Nobody's saying you can't learn anything from listening, but it is true that you will not get as much out of an audiobook as you will by actually physically reading the same book.

Is that so, John?

Nothing to see here.

"Our" industry.

Hard-core video gamers are the lineal descendants of the guys (and they were almost exclusively guys) who played old-school military board games and military and fantasy RPGs. Flynt/Wu's attitude toward video games is similar to some troon walking into an old war-gaming club and demanding that everyone stop playing Panzergruppe Guderian or Axis and Allies or Napoleonic miniatures and start playing something that the troon would enjoy; he would probably suggest Chutes and Ladders or Candyland or Parcheesi.

Our hypothetical troon (just kidding; it's Flynt/Wu) would then go after the companies that make war games and demand that they start publishing games featuring battalions of Amazons, Maenads and Lesbian berserkers. He doesn't realize at all that game sales are driven by market forces and that there's a reason -- a reason he is incapable of understanding -- that guys want to play Drang Nach Osten and Call of Duty instead of Clue or Japanese Schoolgirl Confidential.

Flynt/Wu's ultimate goal is not to change the video game industry but to change men into women. You would think that his spectacular personal failure in this area would convince him that it can't be done.

I thought Flynt/Wu's ultimate goal is to gain congress power to stop GamerGate?

That's certainly part of her agenda. I really think she thought she would have a pretty easy ride and had a good shot but she's been rejected by a lot of her own followers over it. She would definitely go after some of the people who have made her look stupid from GG for sure if she had the power and opportunity. I remember she appeared on a movie and TV podcast as a guest a few days after officially announcing her campaign (It wasn't one of her regular podcasts) but the guy introduced her and she went on like a 90 second spiel about her run for congress and the guy was like "uhhhhh, okkkkk... That's not what were here to talk about today." She immediately got all huffy over it and went on another reeeeeee about why it's so important, the whole rest of the podcast was awkward after that because she got all quiet and didn't speak nearly as much and was clearly irritated. The guy ended up un-publishing it out of the playlist a day later... lol

I've asked David Pakman to do a story on her run but he said if they do decide to cover it, it won't be until a few months prior to the election unless something major blows up prior to that.

While admittedly that figure is a little on the nose, it arguably still fits the themes that Giger and Ridley Scott had going on in Alien. There are thousands of scholarly articles on the psychosexual elements apparent in the film and its sequel, many of them from well regarded academic sources, and many of them written from a feminist perspective.

Not that I'd expect Wu to spend any time actually engaging with feminist discourse on popular culture beyond entry-level Twitter/Buzzfeed wokeness.

I don't care whether it fits the themes or not, it looks exceptional.
