I'm happy to be proven wrong (because I won't blame anyone for putting out a game, even if it's shit) but I really, really doubt that Wu will ever release Rev60 on Steam. The best thing might be that it gets put back on the Apple Store. Wu has nothing to gain and a great deal to lose from its release. That's assuming she's even capable of finishing the game at all, which, as others have said, is likely not the case.

While Rev60's still in development, Wu can claim a whole lot of shit. She can claim to be at the forefront of the gaming industry. She can claim to still need to hire women. She can make a whole lot of obnoxious and smug statements about game development, because she's currently in it. Once Rev60 can be officially declared finished, she won't have that any more, and people will recognize her as just another annoying amateur designer with a shitty product. If Rev60 is finished, Wu will have to move onto another game or risk becoming (more) irrelevant, which means either abandoning her Sonichu (unthinkable) or putting out a sequel, which everyone in the industry will just roll their eyes at.

Moreover, putting it out there on Steam will shatter her hugbox. It's not just going to be weens that spam her game with negative reviews, there'll be actual reviewers intrigued by the controversy trying to have a look. The success of Undertale has renewed interest in crowdfunded games. And they're going to find a dogshit game riddled with optimization errors and borderline plagiarism, and they'll tell their audience about it, an audience far larger than Wu's Twitter. She won't be able to dismiss real reviewers as Gamergate trolls. She'll reinvoke the wrath of SJWs for her skinny white woman fetish, and she'll certainly never be able to raise her zillion dollars for VR tech like she dreams of.

What happens if she doesn't put out the game? Nothing. The only real consequences might be from renegading on her crowdfunding promises, but I doubt it; that funding had nothing to do with the game and everything to do with GamerGate. Her supporters don't care if she produces a game or not.

I think if BriWu produced a game any significant media coverage would be positive, her game viewed as the equivalent of a 3 year old's fingerpainting, "It exists, yaaaaay!"

Whenever the topic comes up Wu just argues "This is how valve does it" and you can't really argue with that. Games SHOULD be delayed until they're as good as possible. Wu's taking this to the extreme, but the only people that really have grounds to complain are the kickstarter backers, and they either don't care or have forgotten.

However the flip side is that you'd expect a game developed under Valve like standards and delayed this long should be a fantastic GOTY contender with no bugs or issues. When Rev60 comes out, that's the time to nail Wu on all the missed deadlines and ask "what were you actually doing all this time?".

I think she can be called on it right now. Valve doesn't delay games on account of their head of development preferring to spend their time picking fights on Twitter. Also, Valve doesn't take money from people up-front and then, after 18 months and many missed deadlines, refuse to commit to a deadline for delivering the thing people paid for back in 2014. Valve is a business - they have to make money. GSX is an expensive hobby for an otherwise unemployable housewife.

I think Johns ego is wrapped up in Rev60 right now, along with his mary sues. He has an intense desire to be important and respected, and crying harassment doesn't get anywhere near as much attention as it used to. He's gotten too much into the character of "Brianna Wu, tech goddess" and I think today/yesterdays PS1 rant shows he's still wrapped up in the fantasy of being a household name in game development. Unless something really big comes along he can jump straight into, he will eventually release it just for the boost in harassment if nothing else. Other then that, I believe he does think he's going to release a well received game. He's blind to the flaws in himself and his work and has a bunch of toady's to tell him everything he's touching is turning to gold, and no desire to think about whether or not that's true.

I agree with everything you say, but its more about the reception of Wu's followers and the SJW sphere in general. At the moment they'll just see a brave womyn being harassed for her work, and defend her harder then before. When it comes out and everyone can objectively see that it hasn't improved much despite 2 years (so far) of work, its harder to rationalize. The original point I was replying to was about someone important hammering Wu on the deadlines, and I just don't think anyone that Wu is willing to talk to would want to risk pissing off her followers by doing this. She has a defense that's good enough for them, and no need to answer to anyone else just yet.
