I was going to post this in Internet Famous but I think it fits here. Besides, I posted here my theory on the Breatube pipeline.
This holiday season has been the worst I have ever lived and one minor thing that has been the cherry on top of the shit sundae was waking up on Christmas morning and while checking my subscription feed noticing that for some reason I was subbed to Mr Beard. You would be forgiven for not knowing who that irrelevant fuck is, another fixture of the never-ending pantheon of softboys that were former Viners or know former Viners and make bank by talking about movies no one has heard about or TikTok trends mixed with some language that makes it pretty clear what their political opinions are. Think how the hypothetical models Old Navy would use if they wanted FTM models 9 months into testosterone would look like and you can picture just about any of these fucks.
Mr Beard in particular had "grazed" my feed already with a collab he made with Danny Gonzalez, someone I stopped watching like three years ago and died to me the moment he appeared in the H3 Podcast sandwiched between Hontra and The Nephew. I decided to ignore him and similar people because of some sort of largely undeserved empathy towards a fellow creator. But when YouTube showed I was subbed to him (someone I had never watched a video of) I fucking snapped.
Things only got worse later on for my recommend section and I have spent Catholic Christmas until Orthodox Christmas piling up my personal shitting list. Suffice to say, I'm a petty cunt and I want to take my anger after a bad end of the year on someone. Allow me to present you what I decided to call the Danny Gonzalez pipeline. Y'know, because Drew Gooden is better anyway.
Allow me to preface this. I do read threads on Internet Famous but I rarely have watched any remotely political content in the last four years. If I don't watch the archive I take the banter at face value and move on. I have a rule to not shit where I eat and so I avoid people with threads and a lot of people that I know can lead me into a lolcow rabbit hole.
My watchlist is mostly composed of (not joking here):
VTubers (streams and clips)
Sports videos (mainly banter and memey analysis)
Selfcare videos (yoga, hair and face masks)
Workout watch along (sue me)
Tamers12345 (yes, he gets his own category)
Why am I sharing this? Because it makes sense when YouTube recommends me Hero Hei and Mother's Basement even though I don't watch them since they are anime-focused. It doesn't make sense that YouTube thinks I am interested in watching Nephew clips that are PewDiePie but worse. It would make some sense in that the Nephew's stock is rising but is not doing it organically.
I have been trying to make some sense of this for a week and it would only prove my schizo theories from back when. I started to think that giving that Break Bread video I wrote ago several pages ago could be the trojan horse that fucked me over but it goes even deeper. The reason I call it the Danny Gonzalez pipeline is very simple. If you are a zoomer like me then you are familiar with the Viners that became YouTubers. They started making commentary videos (started shitting on other former Viners like Lele and the Pauls or Musically) and then they had to morph into reviewers of Hallmark-tier movies. They arguably became the de-facto face of the commentary community because everyone else was considered an edge lord. At some point in 2017, they started to preach more openly and influence and be influenced by the then rising leftubers. The cycle would be like this:
Drew Gooden > Danny Gonzalez > Jarvis Johnson > Kurtis Konner > nicksnotgreen > Mr Beard
I feel like DeAngelo Wallace has somewhat outgrown this model even though he is a benefactor of it. The key is that all these people talk the same and roughly talk about the same things. All of them have a largely chill persona they play and as you progress in the scale they become more passive-aggressive when making jabs when they feel morally justified. To be fair this seems to be the MO of all the leftube cluster which expands into video essays and angry reviewers.
I am singling this out because:
I have not seen anyone else talk about it.
I think no one talks about it because is a very gradual process that mainly concerns younger viewers. At that mainly female and or sexual minorities, mostly trans.
Again, this is like finding multiple shades of beige but the more I think about how the top dogs have changed with the years the more sense it makes. I think the main reason people don't talk about this is that those that do benefit from it. Think how many times Twitter trans users can only mention "building a welcoming space for trans people" as the main positive a YouTuber or streamer can have.
Now I am going to present you with my personal shitting list. All of these people have presented at least once in my feed and I am going to insult the ever-loving shit out of them because I am a petty cunt and I want them to pay for ruining my Christmas.

They don't do it only because of possible ad revenue. They do it because once you have hit a third of the run time it means shit if you finished it, they milked you. They make their video disjointed and incoherent so you jump in and out of it which creates view inflation and enhances visibility. Is the best way to be popular without actually being popular. Did you see any of them in your feed in the last two weeks? They are riding the Winter Wave which has elevated many before them. They aren't stupid and they don't have morals so who gives a shit about them exploding an unfair game? That's where things like Reddit come into play, that's where their fanbases come from. The largely unknown names I listed are certified redditors and they know that r/breadtube has become little more than a place for shameless promotion of imitators. The Reddit web is vast and will force you to expand whether you like it or not.
If I am being honest I almost wish for them to grow up to be boring, unsatisfied upper-middle-class forty-somethings that look back on their YouTube career as if they made porn. One can dream.
